Default Have you ever known any actual groupies?

Inspired by a discussion in chat I was paying slight attention to.

As I have mentioned before, I used to date a woman who was a huge Seattle Mariners fan. Before we moved in together, she told me that I had to accept that she would, whenever she could, go to Mariners' training camp to be around him, and if at all possible intended to sleep with him. I'm sure that if she was alone in an elevator with him, he found himself the recipient of carnal attentions within moments.

    Anybody else?

A lady I know is 100% a Bruce groupie. I think there might even be a restraining order involved.

A girl I work with doesn't tell stories that don't involve getting drunk and making out with someone. Usually, the "someone" is a member of a local band, often that local band has made good and is now at least marginally known through the rest of the country. Case in point: I think she made out with at least one of the guys from Chevelle.

I had a co-worker who had gotten to know quite a few Bulls and White Sox players in an intimate fashion, back in the day. She never got to Michael Jordan, though.

I have recieved amorous attentions from young ladies who have been present to see various bands that I've been in play. The only reason they gave me the time of day is that I had been up on that stage.

At my high school job one of the other employees (older than me) mentioned that he used to be a groupie of Berlin - he followed them on tour and was obsessed for something like two years.
Most of the time he sounded pretty embarrassed by it, but he still told the stories on occasion, and when the Muzak played "Take My Breath Away" he got a funny look in his eyes.

Years ago in grad school one of my classmates was a sort of alt-rock groupie-- had these stories about hooking up with various luminaries, and we all sort of nodded and played along.
When I signed up for Facebook last year I looked her up via mutual classmates, and it turned out that sometime in the last 10 years she hooked up with, and married, and had several kids with, and is now releasing albums as a duo with the front-man of the nationally-known band I most completely and utterly worshiped as an undergrad. Very strange.

I know a woman who made it her life's work to have sex with every member of The Blue Angels flying team, the Thunderbirds (are they still around?) and also the Snowbirds (a Canadian flying team). I don't know if she made much progress but she sure as hell worked on it. There's a big air show here every year and she used to run a restaurant at the airport where the pilots hung out. The aviation world and the men in it make the old "sailors have a girl in every port" look like Sunday School teachers so maybe her trophy case is really full. She was, beyond question, the stupidest woman I ever met in my life. You know how you read about people who are totally obsessed with sex? Well, she was. It was bizarre. She would have sex with any man who suggested it. Anyone. She was caught time after time when she neglected to lock her office door - and once a crowd was gathered staring in her office window from another building while she was enthusiastically boffing an old guy who ran the flying school. She wasn't good looking, didn't dress "sexy", but she gave off some vibe I guess.

It's funny in books or Penthouse letters, but it's not nearly as funny in real life.

No real serious groupies I guess, but I've known women who tried to get to the lead singer, but lacked the commitment to also perform sexual favours for the roadies in order to get access.

I'm pretty sure that, believe it or not, rock stars get a lot of tail.

I work with a girl who bragged about being with Vinnie Paul from Pantera. That is gross, and I say that as a guy who's been in, and around, a lot of bands for along time, and considers himself pretty well inured.

I once met a Tom Petty groupie at a concert.

That's the closest I ever came to one.
