introducing a bit of fun
For the entertainment I propose, there is but one imperative. The cognitive content of our typing doesn't matter. The topic of conversation may be variable. But within the structure of our discourse, we should avoid one element. If you understand my coded message, please answer according to the single imperative for the pastime, which my riddle itself follows.

Re: introducing a bit of fun
Certainly, fella. Finally a paragraph puzzle I can participate in right at the start.

Excellent! Let us be hopeful our fellow posters might quickly solve the riddle too. Perhaps to create yet further fun, if we garner sufficient participants, we could propose certain words to be defined without breaking the single imperative. For example, a "zebra" is a quadruped mammal resembling a horse which possesses alternating stripes of white and black.

Re: introducing a bit of fun
Would I be correct in believing the above poster is not qualified to participate, on account of their identity on our new message board? And further, the imperative could be construed as satirical of the recent unfortunate directives which led to the creation of the new board?

You got it! However since we cannot simply alter our screen identities, I believe we could ignore content outside of the primary response location.
So, how would you define "hammer" without breaking the imperative? If you reply, please propose another definition for the subsequent player to try.

Re: introducing a bit of fun
Surely further members of our group of geniuses can solve my riddle!
-
Re: introducing a bit of fun
I suspect an answer, yet I could easily be wrong. I shall formulate a response as if my guess is correct and the OP can point and laugh at my stupidity if I'm fucked in the noggin.
-
Re: introducing a bit of fun
Haha you did not have success! I am correct?
This one took some thought. But I think Julie put in one word that breaks the imperative.

Does "white" work? If so, I'm lost - again  !

Re: introducing a bit of fun
Brewha has contravened the imperative in the two postings above, if my guess as to its direction is correct.
-
Re: introducing a bit of fun
Yup. Sorry, Brewha, you are out.

No noggin fuckery at all! You two did it right, so welcome to the elite. 8-)

I am proud of my accomplishment in joining the cadre of riddle-solvers. I am grateful to avoid noggin fuckery, yet formulating replies remains difficult.

Re: introducing a bit of fun
Excellent, I am confident my ability to detect the pattern in question has succeeded. Reporting the achievement to you all, however, is difficult to a extent greater than my expectations. Fortunately it is not impossible.
An apropos challenge methinks, given the current circumstances.

You are correct, of course. Now you too are one of the geniuses. :D

Drewbert, to my everlasting sorrow I say, "I believe you goofed."
I do not claim, however, to be the expert. I await the ruling.

I despair! Obviously, my understanding of the initiative is flawed.

Re: introducing a bit of fun
Indeed, I missed it myself at first, thank you Julie. His answer contains an error, but I strongly suspect he knows the answer and merely failed to notice his mistake. Still, if we are playing final entity upright who hasn't violated the imperative, the mistake should render him ineligible for winning.

Aw, phooey. After all my efforts!

I nearly erred in precisely the way in which you erred, therefore I noticed the error.

Re: introducing a bit of fun
I suspect I know it, for there is a missing element among all this, but I can not be certain of my own intellect...
If my suspicions are true, then I would not wish to play such a game. There are many people in the world - some good friends - who would be discluded from my pattern of speech by the omission. Artists with the first name Mick, for example, or the last name Groban.
How did I do? Am I even close?
-
Re: introducing a bit of fun
Congratulations! You understood it and completely defecated on it in one go!
In other words, bye.

Sorry, but you are out. The guesses you offered together do not match the single imperative, and the words you typed contain a great number of breaches of it, too. As to the concern you shared, I indicated earlier for no one to be concerned if their posting handle broke the imperative, as we cannot change those easily.
-
Re: introducing a bit of fun
No! I shall not take part in fun, if I offend by being me. Absurd!
-
Re: introducing a bit of fun
I too refuse to take part in such eltist behaviour, unless I suddenly 'click' as to what is happening in this thread.
I'm obviously not as smart as I thought, or is this a bit like those cryptic crossword puzzles, cos I'm crap at them too?

As I explained twice now, your screen handle cannot disqualify you.

The riddle is quite simple and I think it is amusing too. Perhaps you are overthinking it? Either way, you are out despite not intending to participate. :D

Re: introducing a bit of fun
Ensign, you did something wrong there.
-
Re: introducing a bit of fun
I believe I understand the imperative. It is, indeed, difficult in the extreme to write in the way prescribed by it, at least in a way which is at all fluent. Is there a guideline as to how often we are required to write in the intended manner in order to win? Is it, indeed, a contest to see who lasts longest?

An implement of carpentry, intended for the pounding-in of narrow, pointed, steel or aluminum connectors, as in the attachment of boards to one another.
Another definition to attempt: "pavement"

Asphalt or concrete, often spread on the ground to create a street, thoroughfare, or sidewalk.
Define "hat."
-
Re: introducing a bit of fun
You are correct. I cannot win, for I typed before my tea. I suspect my error might be frequently observed, so watch yourselves! ;) And surely all these clues can bring in further members!
I'll still participate though, as I enjoy the fun.
A hat is an object which a person wears on his or her skull.
Define "violin".
-
Re: introducing a bit of fun
A violin is a stringed instrument producing a variable range of frequencies and squeakiness which can be useful to annoy friends, neighbors, and sundry passersby.
-
Re: introducing a bit of fun
Excellent, Julie, but you should provide another bit of vocabulary for us to define please. :)

Yikes! I forgot:
Define "glove."

I'm afraid the poster before me has defined "glove" invalidly. I shall attempt otherwise.
Glove: a variation of a mitten having separate enclosures for the fingers, the purpose of which is to prevent freezing of the upper extremity's digits.
A new one: arbor.

Groan. FIP
-
Re: introducing a bit of fun
Yep, the first glove definer broke the single imperative a few times, but she was already ineligible to win (as am I).
Arbor: An organic entity connected to the earth, possessing roots, stems, and leaves, which is not a shrub.
Define "bad".

Re: introducing a bit of fun
Toe: One of ten small appendages to the terminus of the leg.
Define "hot".
And surely my riddle is not so complicated we cannot get additional players, given all these clues.
-
Re: introducing a bit of fun
Christ, solving the thing lasted me sixty minutes or longer. Maybe I'm stupid or something. I thought about punctuation, letters, nouns, adverbs, adjectives, beginnings of words, endings of words, and on and on.
But hot: having a relatively raised temperature.
-
Re: introducing a bit of fun
I agree, Hellenstal, it was two nights before I finally figured out the directive. Indeed it is difficult and leads to awkward phrasing. I might be driven to use profanity, but it is largely disallowed.
-
Re: introducing a bit of fun
Perhaps it would assist those who remain stymied if I hinted explicitly: the single imperative itself could be taken as humorous. And the poster above me has given a highly useful piece of information.
Define "sun".
-
Re: introducing a bit of fun
Sun: a large nuclear reaction in the shape of a glowing sphere, lasting billions of years, heating our planet and providing light.
Define: house.
-
Re: introducing a bit of fun
The organ which is responsible for cognitive processes becomes quite cramped by trying to decipher the imperative.

House: a domicile constructed for the dwelling of a single family.

Yes, I wanted to fit a large number of words in the sentence to better assess my theory regarding the imperative.

Re: introducing a bit of fun
I neglected to provide a new subject:
Define dog.
-
Re: introducing a bit of fun
Oh, I get it now. Tricky riddle, indeed. I am astounded at my inability to understand sooner.
Dog: A quadruped wearing a fur-coated epidermal layer and enjoys games of fetch.
Define: laptop
-
Re: introducing a bit of fun
laptop: a computer designed for portability.
Chicken.
-
Re: introducing a bit of fun
The neuter plural for roosters and the associated female birds.
Children.
-
Re: introducing a bit of fun
The end result of a sexual relationship if precautions aren't taken to avoid pregnancy.
The offspring of a happy couple, conceived in a sexual expression of affection.
(I'm out, but I was helped to the correct answer so I decided to write.)
-
Re: introducing a bit of fun
Oh, I'm a fucking idiot!
It has taken me an eternity, but I think I get it now.
I required a thousand clues, though.
