Noooooo! Not plaid!
One of the Yorktown's four shuttlecraft is the Kaku, a name suggested (in this thread, posts 520-521) by anyrose. Just tonight, I saw him in an Intuit TurboTax ad:

By Grabthar’s hammer, by the suns of Warvan, you shall be missed. :(
RIP Alan Rickman
I was just coming here to post that same line. What a fucking waste and a huge loss. He could do anything, tragedy, comedy, action-adventure, romance... And most importantly he was a lovely person too, from all accounts. This is gutting.
A fine tribute, CIAS - thanks for the link.
The story goes that, for the Die Hard scene where Gruber falls to his death, being filmed from above with a big air bag below, the stunt coordinator said, "OK, let go when I count down to zero. Five... four..." and then purposefully pushed Rickman on "three" to get a better, more startled reaction from him. It worked.
Rickman was appearing with the Royal Shakespeare Company when I was in Stratford in late '85, although (still kicking myself) I didn't see any of his plays. I did sit almost close enough to touch him in a cafe while he was having a drink with Juliet Stevenson, with whom he would appear (also doing a great job) in Truly, Madly, Deeply just five years later.
He was also very, very good in the Harry Potter movies and Sense and Sensibility.
Rest in peace, Mr. Rickman, and thanks for all you gave us.
A Spaceport in Scotland...wonders will never cease.
Holy crap, choie! All Kylah has to do is scream. Most of the crew couldn't give two craps about rumors. but they will help a shipmate in trouble.
Well, in addition to being slow-witted from sleepiness, she's genuinely in shock that Zweller is escalating things to this extent. Even back at the Academy, he didn't get physical with her, although it would've been easy for him to under the circumstances. And on top of that, who expects to be attacked by a fellow Starfleet officer on your own ship?
Plus, there's the unknown device that throws her off, too. Any instinct to scream is delayed by the question: what the hell is that thing?
Basically, assume everything happened much faster than it can be described. :)
Tardiness... Sorry folks, a-typical number of deadlines converging, have been slow to post at go time in the game!
How did everyone fare in the storm? We got 2 feet here on Lawn Guylindt with drifts up to 7'
Sunny and clear here today with some crunchy snow underfoot, but none has fallen in the past four days or so. Our son is in Washington, D.C., which got two feet of snow, but he's safe and warm. Wiki has this amazing nighttime satellite picture of the U.S. East Coast from yesterday, showing the blizzard: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_P...1-23_0715z.jpg
Clarification please: I thought Onn was going to countdown, and now Nguyen is? Is his 'three' the one on which Collins will fire or does she wait for Onn's?
SidonianGal wrote in post 2192: "Mr. Nguyen, please start the five-second countdown on my mark" and "...she'll deploy her mag-boots and, at last, give the command to begin the countdown. At T-3, you and Collins beam the canisters and fire. At T-0, beam the squad in." So that's what he's doing. Collins should fire on "three."
So, for most of February we'll be on vacation. That's good all around.
For a portion of it, we will be in Antarctica. That's good from a "global warming may destroy this so let's do it now bucket list," but potentially less good from a posting perspective...
From Sunday-Friday next week (flights aside) we should have reasonable Internet access. After that I'll try to provide the group or at the least EH some info on what to expect for the next week or two. Of course if Graham is in the infirmary maybe that makes it easy :/
OK, thanks, general. Have a great trip!
Wow, that sounds amazing, general. Very envious. I hope you'll share some pics!
Nia will miss Graham, of course, but he must recover and you must see what's left of the permafrost. Travel safely and have a wonderful time!
Oooh! That sounds awesome, g_u. Let us know if you run into Dora the Explorer.
Wow, sounds great. Enjoy yourself.
Just watched Galaxy Quest with a friend - at least my third time seeing it. It still holds up very well, and of course Rickman is superb. I noticed this time that Kwan yawns when he steps off the shuttlecraft - he's the first human being in history to set foot on an alien world, and he yawns! LOL.
Thanks all! We have helmet cams, there will be many pictures!
Remember, all, that "Sickbay" is one word.
Another codex is on the front page of Wikipedia today: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codex_Sinaiticus

I like the one in which he says "Line?"
Hey all within the next three or so days we should have decent satellite connection (stopping at Ushuia which is a hip town) so Graham may be able to put in a brief consciousness cameo. I'll DM EH when I find out the details. First whale sighting this AM!

Excellent! Have fun, general, and happy birthday, WES!
Sooo.... is Collins ever going to have her conversation with Vargas?
Ah, so Collins thinks "it was rude of her" is an excuse for grabbing a senior officer? (Or grabbing anyone, really, but most especially a senior officer.) Apparently it is, for ol' Vargas. Unbelievable. Even if Collins had been right and Nia was "rude," and even assuming the pseudo-military Starfleet really cared about stuff like manners instead of who takes precedence over whom, Vargas still should've chastised her.
But nope. Not even a "don't do it again." Nothing! Just "aw poor dear, please go to beddy bye." Argh.

choie makes a good point. I'll add a bit to that conversation.
Ha! :P But seriously, as aggravating as it is (on Nia's part--but she isn't here to see it), I think it's perfectly in character for him not to say anything at this point. He didn't upbraid her at the time and he'd actually witnessed it the whole thing. Plus, Security folks do stick together--the thin redshirt line.
Sorry about leaving off the writing credits. My bad.
True. As I saw it, he didn't say anything at the time because (a) his initial reaction was simple annoyance, (b) he was in a hurry, and (c) he didn't want to upbraid his immediate subordinate in the presence of non-Security personnel.
No worries.
I'm on the road with my family this weekend and will be able to post probably only once a day, if that. Thanks for your patience.
Oh bloody hell, I wanted Nia to go visit Graham before going to bed. I thought I'd have time after Johnson posted.
Everyone, please assume Nia went to the sickbay and gave Graham the flower he gave her. When he wakes up, he should see that. Also envision an awesome scene of Nia at his bedside saying something fantastic. Embellish however you want. :D
Or you could...yanno...create the scene and I'll post it within the last Ajay post. EH willing, of course.
By all means, please do. Or SidonianGal could just write it as a flashback - perhaps musing on her visit to Sickbay while she sits at the Helm.
Consider the character name, and consider what else was in that post.
[Emily Litella]Never mind.[/EL]
Reading Is Fundamental!
Cute, EH -- so The Martian is canon now!
If I may jump in after my alter ego's post... Have we heard of this Ambassador Phillips before? I don't want Nia asking "Ambassador who with the what now?" if we're supposed to know who this bigwig is.
(To clarify, I mean, have we met him/her before? Or is this just a cameo while s/he negotiates w/the Aelyrr?)
Cameo. Never mentioned before.
In-game, you can always consult the Library Computer for questions like that.
^ Thanks! I'd just hate to have Nia ask "Who is Ambassador Phillips?" and the answer turn out to be something like, "Amb. Phillips was on the Yorktown last week." Characterwise, there are things I don't know that Nia (or Kylah) should know--like, what cabins they're in, or the name of the president of the UFP--that would make them look utterly imbecilic if they had to ask about it. So it's a judgment call. :)
Re: Rangin/Ajay... It strikes me that at some point Kylah and Rangin are going to have to communicate in other ways besides sending each other food. :D
Hi all...I'll be back in the world tomorrow and look forward to catching up with the latest and greatest in the Yorktown. Naturally I'll share a few penguin pictures too!
Yay! Welcome back!
Huzzah!
