Hi everybody. EH suggested I post this, so I will.
The last day or two, I've been experiencing some sort of lag with the game thread. I'll post something, but it won't appear right away. When it does appear, it's much later in the thread. The post is definitely out of place. Also, earlier posts from all of you don't show up on my screen until much later. Any ideas as to what might be causing this? Anyone else having a similar issue?

What browser are you using? It might be out of date and need updating. Short of suggesting hitting refresh a couple of times before you post and after as well, I got nuthin'
As I mentioned to WES, she's the first who's had this problem. Hope it can be resolved.

Damn. All our PCs in one room, and in prime conflict mode! (Well, except new-PC Nia; I'm not sure how she'll react to all this if she hears about it.) Rangin really ripped poor Kylah's heart out and also winged Collins and (naturally) Graham too. The scrappy Coridanite has plenty of bite in him.

Kylah didn't say anything aloud about her jewelry--she just said the words "they took all of it." CIAS, you've done a mighty good job at making Velir look as bad as possible, all the while being perfectly in character and believable. He's just... saying and doing everything wrong, mostly out of pride or fear of being hurt. What makes this delightfully ironic is that it's the same pride that keeps Kylah from being truthful with him, as well.
Echoing his message above: well done, everyone! In addition to Velir's evisceration of Kylah and his understandably feeling victimized, there's Collins's berating of Graham (the "hat trick" line was great), Graham's single-minded determination to believe his eyes and ears (I mean, the guy may be wrong, but he has every reason to think what he does), and T'Var's cold order of Graham in an attempt to take control of the situation.

Whoa, really? Of course it sounds fine with me... But boy, my guess was way off; for some reason I was picturing it nearly twilight when Kylah was looking for the starport. (Although time on Anubis may be different from shipboard time, right?)
That means when Kylah & Rangin first got to the pub it must've been only 10am or so--actually, given how much time has passed since Kylah was first found, it must've been closer to 9. Yet all of our Starfleet officers were drinking! Plus it sounds as if Collins and Graham were talking about going to sleep, and Johnson felt he was already late getting to the galley for dinner.
Clearly we all need better chronometers!
Well, given that it's 2:30, what time would Nia (and the rest of the gang) be off duty?
How can it only be 2:30? It has to be at least 4:00 pm.
Ok - Arrival was on time at Anubis at 09:17 (#2) + a bit extra to go into orbit.
Dr Brold is ready in five hours (#178)
Four hours shore leave granted immediately (#180)
Say shore leave starts at 09:30, it would end at 13:30.
Kylah was given an extra half hour making it 14:00 when the alarm was raised about her being missing.
Throw in an extra half hour for the searching, dealing with police in Thoth and Hathor, Kylah being rescued and operated on takes it to about 14:30 which matches up with Dr Brold being ready and the sensor array being beamed on board.
At that point, Rangin goes across to meet the guests, Collins and Graham return - say half and hour or so - which puts the confrontation in Sickbay at about 1500.
Does that sound reasonable?
Damn, Kylah and Rangin were drinking early. Actually given what happened the night before, hair of the dog no doubt.

Yes, it's already darker in Thoth, several posters have said (and I haven't contradicted them), so we'll go with that.

Y'know, the delicious irony of Rangin being a suspect is that he actually has the biggest responsibility for solving the case: not only did he find Kylah, he was also the one who picked up the DNA of one of the goons. But he has been doing a terrific job of acting guilty--I doubt anyone will be patting him on the back for his role in possibly saving Kylah's life and doing all the science-related scanning. He'll have Kylah's gratitude but, another irony, he probably doesn't want it. What a mess!
Collins has significantly upped her tact on this mission, I can imagine "Last Mission Collins" deciding the landing party will be her, Graham and Rangin... :o:DQuote:

Graham hasn't run into Russell or Harper yet. I'm sure they'd be happy to give him a friendly fist-bump, considering how they reacted after Rangin chided them once Kylah dressed them down for being inept. (Kjaerstad's probably a little disappointed he didn't get a chance to kick Kylah while she was down! :D)
And the chances of Graham being appreciative that Rangin hasn't completely dumped him in it? Nah, didn't think so.
Then again, still waiting for Vargas to ask his security team about all the investigating they did :D

Given the stardate, btw, that would have been about two years ago. Kylah was in the 2nd year of the Academy. Of course, she took time off to attend the wedding on Troyius.
BTW, CIAS and I were literally just discussing how this episode highlights the difference between TOS and TNG. The morals of the TOS-era Federation are bizarre and somewhat hypocritical. They're against slavery but they completely enable the mistreatment of Elaan, who doesn't want to marry the prince of Troyius. Kirk knows Elaan loves him, but he doesn't really ever ask her "What do you want?" or anything.
Compare this with the (very similar--in fact, suspiciously so!) The Perfect Mate episode, from the TNG era, where Kamala was being "given" from one planet to another yet again to create peace between previously warring planets. Like Elaan, she has a special natural ability that makes her the object of obsessive desire by men (I love the famous bit where Riker meets up with her, wipes his face, and then mutters that he'll be in the holodeck :D). And, like Elaan, the Enterprise's captain captures her heart because he treats her differently (Picard treats Kamala with gentleness and respect; Kirk "tames" Elaan and drains out most of her fire). Both men are entranced in kind. They also know that their respective women do not love their intended spouses and are being forced to do this out of a sense of duty.
The big difference? Picard objects to this pimping out of a woman and the denial of her free will, and tries to convince her to do what she wants. Kirk... doesn't.
Of course in both cases there was no way the deal wasn't gonna go through. But the manner in which our protagonist reacts to this treatment of a woman as currency--in fact, even bringing up the subject that this is repugnant--is what makes The Perfect Gift a better and more touching episode, IMHO.
But you gotta love the costumes in Elaan of Troyius. Every one is a marvel of defying gravity!

And yes, "The Perfect Mate" is a far better ep for all the reasons choie states. IIRC, though, Picard wasn't going to preside over the wedding ceremony; he just had to formally present Kamala to her aloof, uninterested new husband (not that that wasn't enough of an ordeal). I'd like to think that, in some alternate universe, Picard and Kamala were able to find happiness together after Alrik's death.
Of course, Stewart and Janssen would later appear together in the X-Men movies.
