Have fun at the convention.
Thanks! I'll check in on Sunday night.
In the meantime, Ceol will be attempting to discern if our prisoner is lying, then helping out otherwise as needed.
I used to do that back in my Living Greyhawk days. Enjoy the con!
To all mythology/fantasy lovers a question:
Mythology, Legends and Fantasy: Most interesting and Mysterious characters.
Please click and post.
Blizzard! We're expecting something around 20" of snow here by tomorrow evening. Office closed early, and probably won't open tomorrow. Could be an interesting night.
How is the first floor laid out?
For the next month I'm going to be traveling in France. I'll have a computer with me, but I may or may not always have 'net access and/or time to post. I'll try to check in as often as I can. Thanks for bearing with me!
Cool, have a lot of fun Appleciders.
Leveling Notes:
Mulligan is 9th now and HP will go to 60
Ithilneth is 6th now and HP will be 39 Ithilneth gets a proficiency.
Gil-Gandel made 6th and should make 7th as a Bard. 72 HP so far. Gil-Gandel gets a proficiency.
Gilraen made 8th
Thoroncir makes 8th and will have 84 HP.
Drindoleth will make 8th and will have 74HP and the Bear forms gained. Druid Tables are most friendly until 12th. He gets an extra 4th level Spell.
Deor will probably make 9th level. -7/D!!! The Robe is a huge item.
Ceol will probably make 7th AC 1/F
Gwaelur might level, needs to post more. Close to 8th.
Sala will probably make level. Close to 7th.
Rorimac probably won’t level
Bitur probably will not level
Side Note Bjorn is making 12th level and will thus be the first Druid in Middle Earth. Drindoleth would at least consider this major.
Additional note. Rorimac will probably want to wear his Elven boots most of the time as they provide +1 ac, stealth, pass without trace and a +25% movement speed. Slip the boots on for climbing and levitating.
Can I invest another proficiency in archery? I have an idea we discussed this a long while back. 7th Bard looks like fun, I'll be spoiled for choice for a 3rd-level spell to memorise!
Huzzah! T&G are on the same level again. Thanks, What Exit!
Mulligan at 9th, I wonder if I can start to pickpocket the local wildlife for goodies. :D
I recently noticed this ring in a catalog we get: http://www.naturesjewelry.com/itemdy...rsearch=j61511
I also just read this Tolkien-inspired picture book, which I got from the library - the artist, Donato Giancola, has a different take on things than Lee, Howe, etc., but some of his imagery is quite arresting: http://www.amazon.com/Middle-Earth-V...8520807&sr=1-1
OK, I'm going to speed things up now and get you back to the capitol then begin the next adventure after we complete the character updates. A small but very powerful army will head west through the woods shown on the map. You'll have very minor encounters and it will only take about a week. I will expand it a bit. This is a good time for meets and greet and catching up with old friends. Think about what you might want to do back at Bozisha-Dar in terms of trading and buying. The King is giving every party member 3000 gold to spend but you must spend it. This is a merchant kingdom, he wants to reward you while making friends with the merchants.
I was thinking that I should add a native adventurer. I was leaning towards a Mage. I was considering having it be Belinda. Other choices would be a Ranger-like figure that knows the area being traveled too. Or both. The main idea is that the party will be largely on their own and more powerful then the NPCs.Quote:
The Lady in White, a young Mage visiting from Tresti is actually Belinda, the niece to Lady Perna
A summary of the travel and the time in the city for the other party. This will give an idea of what trading can happen:
Quote:
Dec 21 to 28th: King and his escort and both parties and Sea Knight and along the way the Mage Telemum joined them.
Dec 29-30th: Reach Bozisha-Dar. Fely gets his helm fix for 4k, Hlíf gets boots fix for 3k, buys Perm Strength 8k, Fix Dwarf Xbow 2k, Nico spent 8k on Perm Str & 12k on Magic War Horse Mavi, Bjorn Pewter Mug 1250gp 12 gal/lvl Create Water, Crystal Wand of Divination & sheath of protection 10x duration & 2bl range10k, Lindar 6” Pegasus, x3 Duration, 4hp/lvl cast 6r 2k, 16 better speeds 7k, Mírégol Polyself to Albatross, Polyself to Seal 1.5K ea, Ruby allow fireballs to either be twice the diameter or twice the range or max hit points of damage. 5500gp, Bren Bowstring +2/+2 -10% 8.5k & Potion better speed. Meriadoc Perm Str, Elixer of youth 5 yrs. Fely trades Bracers 3b, +4 & +5 Short, +1 elf cloak +1 Bow string, for Gondolin Blades boosted to +5, Bowstring +2/+2 -10% Bracers of Archery +2/+1 -10%, 10 Better Speeds. Det Lies interviewed mages and illusionists 3 high tailed it out. Linwen’s group will go investigate the School and Town of Tresti (Oliphants) with the Mage Telemum and dozens and Prince Éomund leading his 20 Knights. Gil-Gandel’s group will go by Sea to assault a stronghold of Cultist of Morgoth, King Elessar will ride against the Necromancer school itself, Capt. Meriadoc’s party will scout vs. Necromancer/Morgoth lairs near Necro School. 2 Elves of Ithilien will join, Cumegil & Nanthil (both 9th) good vs. undead, Drazil 11th level Wizard with Star Sapphire & Baobab he specialized in Turning spells and dispelling and Prot vs. Evil. Ghaida Mage 12th Fire Staff topped by a Ruby, She has tongues via a silver tongue medallion.
No feedback at all? Anything on the NPCs?
I took a few days offs. I was sick Thursday and Friday and doing a lot of house cleaning and chores on the weekend. Sorry for the delay.
Either option for NPC tag-along seems good to me.
In the game thread, the King says 4000gp. Is that instead of the 3000gp, or in addition to it?
Ithilneth needs more magic arrows, I think. I'm not sure what else she's lacking, so suggestions are welcome.
It worked out to 4000gp on further review. It was what the King had in mind a share of the sale/trade of the items from all those Wizard types and their minions just killed by large group action.
As a reminder, check this post for the general prices found last time. Pool up Potion purchases for group discounts. Work with the others on this part. The Better Speed potions were popular with the other group as were the Permanent Strengths of course.
On the topic of purchases, after he tithes, Ceol will be most interested in anything which can enhance his defenses (or those of Leofwin). He'll keep an eye to not surpassing the restrictions on the number of magical items which a warrior of his order may possess, and will gladly put any remaining money towards any "must-have" purchases which other party members have, as well.
On the topic of NPCs, I think it'd make sense to have some trustworthy locals travel with us. It could help with the language barrier, which we've run into several times, as well as generally giving the local inhabitants more reason to trust us.
Having a local and very savvy Ranger would be helpful; that gets my vote.
We don't really have anyone to help us get to where we are going other than Sala, and a journey through marshland will need a ranger, possibly more than a mage.
One note, we can play it out as Gilraen taking Thoroncir aside if needed. The King, her father will be greatly disappointed if the gold is not spent here. It is part reward and a big part diplomacy.
Ceol, I think in this case, you could consider money spent on protecting Leofwin as being your tithe. Tithing down here is pretty much impossible and well spreading the gold at the King's request will fully absolve you.
Helping others make a purchase is of course fine. The King has arranged for I think 44,000 gold to go to your party members and that is a lot of diplomacy as long as it gets spent.
Good point on the local Rajian Ranger being needed. The other party had Capt. Mun for just that reason. They are of course not Orc and Troll slaying Rangers but rather trackers, hunters, herb users and some may have a few magics if of enough experience. They don't actually specialize in the killing of any creatures.
The Ranger though will have to rely on translators in the group. None will know Westron. Captain Mun is picking it up nicely but he is with Meriadoc's party. Belinda, the Lady in White is swift at picking up languages and of course can cast spells to help in the meantime. Main reason I thought she might work.
Understood - the idea is that by spending a lot of money now we show that trading with Gondor can be a very nice earner indeed. How do I stand for spelling-up btw? IIRC they have some nifty illusionists round here and I don't mind picking up an extra spell or two. Spectral Force would be a fun investment depending on how you referee it and I also have Fear and Paralyzation on the list, to say nothing of several druid spells. The only downer is that at this level I have more useful spells than spell slots - if it's possible to "tune-up" my Harp hereabouts I'd be happy to sink some funds into that. (I already have those lovely harp-strings for it, of course.) Options?
You should be able to learn Spectral Force, Fear & Paralyzation as a fourth level. Also one you noticed the other Bard, Lindar using was from UA: Phantom Steed. This is a very useful spell to learn. The Druid spells you just need training and practice in and can cast at normal level of course.
The third level as fourth level spells could be taught by the illusionist school to you. The cost would be a bit steep, 500gp per.
With only two days, I doubt much could be done with your harp.
Most illusionist spells for an elven bard will be cast as if it was one level higher. You can pick up Remove Paralysis as a third level. This could be very valuable against undead. You can also get a Remove Fear as a second level spell (see clerical 1st) or a Group one as a third level. Casting time is 9 segments but area of effect is 1" per level radius. Otherwise like the 1st level spell. Can increase area of effect by casting longer. Add ½" per level for each round spent casting. So at 7th level, singing for 3 minutes will give and area of effect of a 14" radius.
Let me know if you wish to learn these.
Well, I'm three levels and about 50,000xp away from being able to cast fourth level spells - I guess the ones I already have at their normal level get grandfathered in?
When we went over the stats for that Harp, we had this:In the light of this, may I request that Fear, at any rate, be available at 3rd -- if necessary, presented as a song-type spell with Bombadil's tuition as justification?Quote:
Magical Harp of Rivendell: +10 Sleep & Charm, enhances Illusionist emotion spells like 1st: Hypnotism, 2nd: Hypnotic Pattern, 3rd: Fear, 4th: Emotion, 5th: Chaos.
Absolutely. No problem with those and you would already have them in fact. We'll say you're practicing your craft and fear is now ready. When it comes time Emotion will be the next.
Cool. Too many good 3rd-level druid spells to bump any of 'em for a 2nd illusionist, I think. Put me down for Call Lightning, Cure Disease, and Protection from Fire, along with Fear, thanks.
This is what I have so far:
Thoroncir can afford with the Halberd +5 and reward in trade are the Horseshoes of Trosci: These horseshoes allow the horse to travel at double speed nearly tirelessly. They will not fall off and give +2 to attacks and damage with double attacks and a +2 to AC and saves. The horse will leave no tracks and may move across calm water at full speed and choppy water at normal walking speed. Endurance is enhanced to 12 hours without rest.
Drindoleth two Extra-Healing potions, one Water Breathing potion, two Fire Resistance potions, two Better Speed potions, and two Climbing potions.
Deor Shapechanging for the shark form; last time it was available at 1800 gp. 1200 on components for staff. 1000 as payment to Gilraen.
Gil-Gandel 8 +3 Arrows for 4000.
Bitur Magic Sapphire with Dog illusion, Magic Jeweler’s Tool kit, 1 better speed potion, 2 fire resistance potions, 2 climbing potions, 1 levitation potions, 2 Extra-Healing potions, and 1 water breathing potion. A nicely carved wooden box found in a spice store made of mahogany.
Mulligan
Rorimac
Ceol
Ithilneth
Gwaelur We’ve lost Gwaelur somewhere in the city I’m afraid.
Gilraen Her father has given her the item that was sent for earlier. Ring of Protection +1/+1, she buys 5 Extra-heals with her 4000gp and the 1000gp returns and a magic comb that removes knots without pain and cleans hair.
Like I said earlier, Ithilneth needs more magic arrows. I'm not sure what level of enchantment she needs, either +3 or +2.
Ceol's looking for defensive enhancements for Leofin and / or himself; I'm not sure what would be available.
Magic Horseshoes for 5000 gold? Won't fall off, increase AC by +1 and increase endurance.
Rorimac will happily go for the visor of infravision, the anti-insect salve so that it can be replicated, as well as any extra healing potions he can stock up on (you can never have enough healing potions).
Mulligan will take a dozen of the smoke bombs (2000 gp), 5 of the companion potions (1000 gp) and a dozen of the invisibility smoke bombs (1000 gp).
Should be fun working with Deor on seeing what can be stuffed in a small glass globe. Just wait until we master Fireball.
Thoroncir has his asbestos underwear at the ready.
This is what I have so far:
Thoroncir can afford with the Halberd +5 and reward in trade are the Horseshoes of Trosci: These horseshoes allow the horse to travel at double speed nearly tirelessly. A nicely carved wooden box found in a spice store made of mahogany. Permanent strength boost potion
Mulligan takes a dozen of the smoke bombs (2000 gp), 5 of the companion potions (1000 gp) and a dozen of the invisibility smoke bombs (1000 gp).
The alchemists can help you with a potion of billowing magical obscuring smoke. This smoke will cause minor choking and for the amount they can fit into a glass ball it will cover a 20’ diameter going about 12’ high at the center and 6’ at the edges. Duration is 5-10 minutes and affected by breezes of course. Better yet, they have a companion potion that would let the drinker enter the smoky area and operate normally. Duration is 31-50 minutes.
The balls would cost 200gp per or a dozen for 2000gp and the companion potion costs 200gp per or a dozen for 2000gp.
An alternate powder bomb can be made that will stay visible as it clings to the invisible but not against those that are invisible via the wraith world. Only those invisible by spell. This is a very common item actually thanks to the paranoia caused by Linwen a century ago. Something sling bullet size would expose a 15’ diameter or more commonly 3” diameter ball for throwing will expose an area with a 30’ diameter. Either would cost 100gp per. A dozen for 1000gp.
Rorimac Rorimac will happily go for the visor of infravision, the anti-insect salve so that it can be replicated, as well as any extra healing potions he can stock up on (you can never have enough healing potions).
There is a strange magical visor that will allow the Infravision spell a duration of 6 times longer and at 12” instead of 6”. The spell normally last for 2 hours +1 hour per level. So an 8th level casting it would provide Infravision for 60 hours or 2.5 days. This item is only 3500 gold.
1 Extra-Heal Potion and 1 gallon of Insect repellent.
Ceol: Magic Horseshoes for 5000 gold? Won't fall off, increase AC by +1 and increase endurance.
Ithilneth: 8 +3 Arrows for 4000
Gwaelur We’ve lost Gwaelur somewhere in the city I’m afraid. He was found and using his gold from the King and Gold of his own and trading 7 +2 Dwarven Bolts he gets a Permanent strength boost potion boosting himself to 18:00
Gilraen Her father has given her the item that was sent for earlier. Ring of Protection +1/+1, she buys 5 Extra-heals with her 4000gp and the 1000gp returns and a magic comb that removes knots without pain and cleans hair.
Linwen gifted a strange concoction of what she calls Liquid Light. Each protected glass flask hold enough for 4 swords, axes, bolts or arrow tips. In each case the first strike will inflict double damage on any of the undead that live partly in the wraith world. It will do even more to Shadows if you should encounter them.
From the Alchemists due to the high volume of potions bought: Gilraen, Mulligan and Drindoleth each get a Heal Potion and Bitur an Extra Heal.
Looks good to me. Thanks!
Great!
OK, time to move on: ds9writer Last activity: 31 Jan 2011 11:27 AM. So unless someone has heard from him, I am going to turn Gwaelur into an NPC for a bit and then see if NAF1138 might be getting near ready to return. I will add some potions to his character when I get the chance. The actual update will include a few extra potions also due to the large purchase volume. I probably won't get this done today but it is time to make the next plan and meet a local scout/ranger type to go with you.
Did Deor not make 9th?
I have to work on that tomorrow.
NAF1138 confirmed, he will be returning. Hoorah!
Hoorah indeed!
Sweet, will be good to have him back.
Hey all!
Good to be back, what have I missed?
In a word, lots.
Good to see you back again. :)
I'm part way through the Character Update. I need to save time and for now on the Word Doc will be sent out with all the characters on it. I don't think this really upsets anything in this game anyway. (I checked, there was one issue with Deor, but it is resolved.) Mulligan's and Gilraen's secrets are long since past.
Very happy to have you back NAF1138. Your biggest pickup was probably a recently required wand of light that you need to get recharged, but for 2 charges, charges your helm. It makes your helm a very powerful weapon vs. Undead.
I am up to Deor now, he has made 9th level and will now have spells of 4,3,3,2,1 (yep, 5th level)
I could use a fresh spell list from the casters as started. Ithilneth and Drindoleth should prep for Marsh/Undead.
Luzi takes the lead with Rorimac behind or next to her.
What is the rest of the marching order for double and single? Give me an estimate of spacing.
Sala will gladly go where ever you wish, even back. I assume Gilraen and Thoroncir will be near each other with Mulligan near both from the above.
Here are the members and their riding speeds
Not sure what Bitur and Rorimac have been riding.
Minor note, party is an unlucky 13 but perhaps the critters will avoid the bad luck, otherwise Bitur and Gwaelur in particular should be nervous. We can still add mounts and another NPC, could be as simple as a Sea Knight.
Gil-Gandel Cúran 30"
Gilraen Kali 30" & Scout 24" & Missy Night guard but not a scout.
Ceol Leofwin 24"
Thoroncir Baygir 21"
Luzi 24"
Ithilneth 24"
Drindoleth Hound The Wolf 24" & Large Owl as Night Scout
Sala 24"
Deor 24" & Folca for scouting.
Mulligan Riding Pony 15" & Freyja for Scouting
Gwaelur 15" & 15"
Bitur ???
Rorimac ???
Just go with our past marching and riding order, now with Luzi out front with Rorimac, and Sala bringing up the rear? Malacandra, what say you?
Bitur would be riding a regular horse (assuming 1st Ed. follows mount rules similar to 3rd Ed.) Not being the mounted combat type, he's not going to fight on the thing, so he wouldn't bother investing in a warhorse, but he probably would look for a horse that wouldn't immediately be skittish during an ambush, so he would at least get a chance to dismount.
*Suddenly has flashbacks of the "Dwarven Warhorse" from Knights of the Dinner Table.*
Rorimac has a riding horse mentioned on his character sheet. I would guess he was using that one.
OK, I missed the riding horse despite looking twice. Thank you.
Do all the characters look correct. There was an issue on Gil-Gandel that Malacandra already relayed to me. He is 7th level.
I will find and use the prior marching order from last adventure to move on. If there is anything before the next combat or questions about the map and mission, please speak up soon. I hope to update sometime today.

Is there an up-to-date list of spells that Ithilneth knows? I can't seem to find my notes on that. Also, the number of spells per level she can memorize?
The Word Doc I emailed out includes your spell list. Right near the top of the Document is a hyperlink to a bookmark: Spells, page down 1 more page and you will see the Pleonast/Ithilneth list. On the character page, your spells are listed below the experience cell. You are currently at: SPELLS: 4,2,2
What is this "hy-per-link", I know not of such strange technology. :smack:
Okay, Ithilneth memorizes: 1) Protection from Evil, Levitate, Identify, Detect Magic. 2) Greater Light, Detect Invisible. 3) Protection from Evil 10-ft Radius, Water Breathing.
Sounds good, I'm going to edit your spell list into a post in the game thread.
I'll get the first encounter of the new adventure up either tonight or tomorrow morning.
Just a quick note -- my availability will be hit-and-miss for the next few days, but I'll try to post when I can. Should be back to normal by Sunday.
Waiting on Applecider's to check in mainly, I'll update by Monday morning barring being overwhelmed. But possibly later today.
The items and the healing is simple enough.
What the party needs to address is what to do with the prisoners and how to interrogate them.Let's make a plan and get going on these items.
I'll put up a list of items and valuables by tomorrow.
For those that have been in the game from day 1: You All Meet In An Inn.
As to the prisoner dilemma, a good plan for dealing with those captured along the way would be huge. It is a tough situation, the Priest of Morgoth and Sauron are potentially extremely dangerous. The party has no resources for dealing well with prisoners. Hopefully you can come up with a standard plan for this mission. I have no easy outs for you.

It has been a while since we started adventuring hasn't it. :)
OK, need some final decisions and feedback in the game thread.
Also a note: I will be on vacation starting Saturday the 16th through Saturday the 23rd. We're driving to New Orleans and I will be largely off the grid for the week.
Additionally: A Tolkien question has come up,
Thread: On re-reading Tolkien -- spoilers for anybody on the web who hasn't read LOTR. Please join the discussion.
Jim
It's been just over three years. Wow!
Have a wonderful time! You'll be getting back as my wife and I head out on our own vacation -- she's a schoolteacher, and her spring break is *always* the week after Easter. We're driving to Florida (from Chicago -- ugh -- but airfares are absurd right now), to see her father. I won't be entirely off the grid during that time (4/22-4/30), but it might be a bit spotty.
I was last in New Orleans ten years ago, and spent most of my time in the French Quarter. It was fun. Try the ettoufee at Antoine's. In any event, have a great time!
Enjoy, school is our determining factor too. Kids have off the week before Easter and Monday after.
As someone that has been there in July, I well know how devastating the heat and humidity can be. I think I only survived by a constant slow intake of White Russians and other ice/ice cream drinks. But then I think I did that even in March for one of the Mardi Gras. I don't think I'm up to that any more sadly.
I've been there, though I just don't like sea food at all. My wife loves it as do my BIL & SIL who took us there.
If you're looking for something to do with the kids, the aquarium is really wonderful and right next to the French Quarter. Convenient for everybody.
We're planning on the Aquarium, the Zoo, a Swamp tour and Beignets at Cafe Du Monde of course. We'll probably hit a museum or two and some used book stores I hope. Beyond that we have not planned though. My wife and I have both been there many times now. The first time for me was 1992.
I won't be going to the casino but we will probably do the river walk.
The city museum is worth a look - lots of interesting stuff, good and bad, about New Orleans through the ages. One of the rooms used to be the courtroom where the notorious segregation case Plessy v. Ferguson was first argued.
I'll be off for a week as well - back on Easter Even. :)
Arrived safely. I will try update during odd moments this week.
Happy Easter & St. Georges Day and Earth Day & Week.
I'm back from vacation.
Let's get rolling.
Elendil's Heir, do I need to update the Trek thread?
No, thanks (and sorry for my late reply).
LOTR extended edition theatrical showings coming up - maybe to a theater near you: http://www.fathomevents.com/original...ellowship.aspx
Question: from the tower vantage, will Ithilneth be able to Sleep those in the courtyard?
Hey, I still haven't gotten into the habit of checking this board regularly again. Could some one send me a PM if it seems like a couple of weeks have gone by and no one has heard from Gwaelur? PM's to me show up in my email. I'll get back into the swing of things properly soon.
I think that might go double for most of the others as well.
The game seems to be in a stall. I am only checking it at night at this point. But no progress anyway. I'm not sure what to do.
Has the game run its course?
Nooooooooooooo! Let's keep it going, please.
I hope we can keep going - I've been a little off the pace lately as I have a couple of math courses on the go as well as a play to rehearse, but I'd be sorry to see the game come to a sudden halt.
I'll keep going, but I am really crunched for time lately and will be for the next few months I think. But if there are posts, I will keep the game going.
I hope we can keep this going. I've been busy, but I can check in a little more. I wonder if there isn't just a general lull; most of the games in this forum seem to have slowed down.
Perhaps we should take a summer hiatus of a few weeks... or months? Not too long, obviously, I hope.
I want to keep playing, after all this time it would be a shame to just stop. I am ok with a slower pace if need be too.
I've been awfully busy lately, but I'd hate to see the game end. If we need to go much, much slower, I could live with that. I just worry about pausing it entirely, in case it never gets restarted.
I usually read the thread every day, but don't always post if there's nothing for Ithilneth to contribute. I'd definitely like the game to continue.
I usually check the thread at least once a day, but I've been slacking the past few days. I've definitely been enjoying the game, and I'm willing to work harder on posting regularly.
Looks like we're fine to keep going. Look for my updates mostly in the Evenings East Coast time.
MANY thanks, What Exit! We really appreciate all you do.
Just stumbled across this ROTK poster - never saw it before: http://www.theargonath.cc/characters...s/elessar1.jpg
Not the worst habit in the world, am I right?
Release dates for The Hobbit are announced: http://marquee.blogs.cnn.com/2011/05...release-dates/
I know Tolkien's werewolves weren't the same as Hollywood's typical specimens, or J.K. Rowling's. Is Thoroncir now at any risk for becoming a werewolf himself?
AFAIK werewolves were created by Morgoth/Sauron in various ways and don't create other werewolves through bite, otherwise Beren and Luthien could have turned out completely differently.
Chances are though Thoroncir is going to be badly poisoned/diseased though and need the close and personal ministrations of a high level cleric to survive and recover. Wonder where we can find of them then? :D
Does Mithril work on werewolves in Middle Earth the way silver would work in common folklore? I have some Mithril bolts I can use if it does.
Mithril is generally a very good way to make holes in things no matter what, but I do not recall from Tolkien's writings that silver was of especial effect.
Think of a Middle Earth Werewolf as more of a hugely strong warg with a touch of the demonic. Magic to hit but no silver requirement. Huan the hound did well against them and thus Drindoleth probably has the right if painful idea. They are not infectious with lycanthrope but their mouth would contain a vicious brew of germs and bacteria. Think Komodo Dragon.
Keeping chopping, Gil-Gandel should give direction and encouragement, I'm afraid Gilraen is not longer as capable of that for the moment.
OK, thanks, everyone.
And... ouch.
Many of you have already seen Sauron's Blog. Here's another take on LOTR from Mordor's perspective - a translated Russian novel: http://www.salon.com/books/laura_mil...rer/index.html
I'm departing tomorrow morning for the Origins gaming convention in Columbus, OH. Five days of playing D&D -- woot! As a result, I'll be offline after tonight, until Sunday night, possibly Monday.
*like*
I know Drindoleth can cast some as the Bear. What are the limitations on that? Can he do Warp Wood still?
Yes, he can
Sorry to miss you, but have a good trip anyway!
I lived in Columbus for half a decade, but never did get around to going to Origins. Always too busy, since I was in grad school.
My job tasking is going to be non-internet again. I'll try to check in, but it won't be very frequent, maybe.
GenCon UK was as far as I got for big RPG conventions.
I was at GenCon in Lake Geneva in 1985. Other then that I really haven't done any others. It was fun but not my thing in the end.
Two new Elf-women cast in The Hobbit movies, apparently - see the main article here, and the top news item to the right: http://www.wordandfilm.com/2011/06/e...in-the-hobbit/
Lilly is very Elvish looking. A good choice even if I dislike the idea of adding non-Tolkien characters to the movies.
Yup, and that's now two Elf-maids it's been found necessary to drag in. Wonder how much of the Prof's story will have to get spiked to accommodate Jackson's ego this time?
I'm willing to let him, for now. Each may have all of a cumulative five or ten minutes of screen time for all we know.
Watch out for extra forest elf scenes with a cameo appearance by Legolas.
Middle-Earth in Lego...All Of It.
I'd love to go play with these...
Oddly I just won some Lego compatible Lord of the Rings Lego sets. Though far from that impressive of course. I really like the Orthanc from the pictures.
How high up are we right now?
Ground Floor for most of the party.
I'll PM Zuul.

We found Murgos! ;)

Just to say I won't be about much in August. A week on an Open University summer school, back for a week, then off to France...
Sounds like a great August, Malacandra. Enjoy!
I'm off to GenCon in Indianapolis next week, and will be out of touch from Wednesday (the 3rd) through Sunday (the 7th).
Ditto on the GenCon thing.
Hope you all have a great time there - I'd like to go someday!
I have the advantage of living within a 3-hour drive of GenCon (used to be only a 2-hour drive, until they moved it from Milwaukee to Indy). I've been able to go nearly every year since '83...it's changed a *lot* over the years. Still a lot of fun. :D
I went in 1985. My only actual gaming Con. It was fun but it helped we could drive there from Great Mistakes.
I'll be out of touch for a few days. Deor's interested in helping people and finishing up this adventure, and will ID things as necessary. Also, he'll use at least half and probably three-quarters of the cash that he receives to pay back Gilraen's generous loan.
Do you ever go to Origins in Columbus, OH?
BTW, had a great con. It's odd, I was always a tabletop RPG kind of guy until my girlfriend got me into LARPing, and now when it comes to cons, I much prefer LARPing. Mainly because I think tabletop works better as a campaign, whereas LARP works much better as one-shots.
I should probably go on a hiatus. See the Star Trek setup thread for details.
I've been going to Origins for four or five years now. It's become the main convention which my online RPGA group attends; we take advantage of the opportunity to see one another face-to-face.
Glad to hear it -- I had a great time at GenCon, as well, even though I rarely wound up leaving the Sagamore Ballroom (where the RPGA was), save for running in the Orc Stomp 5K at 0600 on Friday morning. :D
My apologies for being silent the past few days...it's been a little nutty, as I was laid off yesterday. (News story on the situation, in case you care: http://adage.com/article/agency-news...hicago/229292/ ). I have a number of irons already in the fire, so I'm not too concerned about things yet, and I now have some free time. :D
What a shame! I'm glad you've got some other leads; I was unemployed myself for a few months this spring.
Thank you. I had been there for 12 years, and so, got a somewhat respectable severance package -- sufficient, at least, to give me a few months to land on my feet without having to worry about finances.
Good luck on the job search. I hope it is a speedy one.
Yes, definitely. So sorry to hear the bad news, but glad your outlook isn't all that dire!
Is this the same day, or the next day? I didn't notice that we camped for the night, but 11 a.m. seems pretty early to have gotten to the next fort.
It's the next day. The camp put you fairly close to this hill fort.
Oh, good. I burned a lot of spells yesterday. I'll probably rework my spell list.
My vacation will be next week. So as of Friday I'll be mostly gone til Labor Day. (Sep 5th)
Enjoy the holiday.
Just the thing for your favorite beverage!: http://www.thinkgeek.com/homeoffice/mugs/e4f8/
Guys I apologize. I have barely been on the computer outside of work for weeks now. My vacation was cut short by the Hurricane which led to over a week of cleanup. This threw out my back so the last thing I was doing when I got home from work was sitting in front of the computer.
My cleanup is done outside of getting a few old couches out of the basement on Saturday and rebuilding a table. My back is mostly back and I will try hard to catch back up on the game.
Side note, my table top Middle Earth game is winding down. They just killed the dragon of Gundabad (Anocar) and we're about 2-3 sessions from ending their campaign. They are now a few years ahead of this game.
Thanks for the update, Jim, and I hope you're feeling caught up and entirely healthy soon!
Get better first, the game can wait until then.
Yes, heal up and <i>then</I> worry about the game. I hope things start going a little easier for you now!
Yeah, heal up, hope Zuul learns to code :p, and we'll see you when you're better!
Damn you, HTML.
Thanks for the update, and OUCH!!!
"Gilraen, where's that barrel of salve...?"
Gah, I have been meaning to check on this game for like a week and it just hasn't happened (well longer than a week, but actively trying for a week). Sorry everyone, I have been going back to school and I just lost track of the game. I am here and I am in. I will catch up and post something today before I leave for class.
Sorry again for disappearing, but I think I have finally gotten my schedule straightened out enough that I have some free time again.
I'll update tomorrow, I just wanted to give NAF & others a chance to post.
Just wanted to share that I've landed a new job. Thanks to a lead from an old boss, I'm joining a market research company here in the Chicago suburbs, as their research director. Thanks for the good wishes...it was, indeed, a speedy process.
That is great news. Congrats Kenobi65
Great to hear, kenobi! Congratulations on the new job.
Terrific! Well done, kenobi65. Did you have to use any Jedi mind tricks?
:: waves hand ::
No, you're sure that's not what they did....
Congrats and good luck kenobi65
FYI, I'm going to be off the grid for a few days (heading up to Wisconsin for an extended gaming weekend with my old D&D group). I'll be away from 10/20 through 10/25. In my absence, Ceol will, of course, boldly smite all evil he can find. :)
Even if you don't like the song, the opening graphic is worth a look for any LOTR fan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QYbI...ature=youtu.be
Aaahh, good old Scandinavian Thrash Metal, gawd bless 'em.
I'm going to be traveling for the next week or so. I'll post if I can, but it may be erratic.
Have a good trip, Appleciders! Anyplace/thing fun?
The game play is really getting too little posting. I am finding it hard to sustain the GM'ing of it at this point. I think we need to make some changes. We really need posters to post on average 3-4 time per week for the game to move. I've been waiting since the 7th for enough posts to move on.
Might be worthwhile to send out a PM, if people aren't checking the thread?
Makes sense to me. Maybe we should wrap this particular adventure up, and move on with a smaller party thereafter.
That is probably the best way to go. I'll try to get a PM out today and see who is still committed to the game with the fact that most weeks we're expecting 3-4 posts and interaction with the other characters of course.
I'm going to be traveling to visit family for Thanksgiving. It shouldn't effect my posting at all, but on the off chance it does, I'll be on the road tomorrow and then again on Saturday. So if I drop off the planet on those days, that'll be why.
I'm going to update the game tonight and I'll try to wrap this part up this week and get us back on the Elendil and heading north.
Very good. I'll be out of town early Tues.-late Sat. for Thanksgiving, but expect to have Internet access throughout.
I'l be around as usual.
