Hey, Graham is the one in charge, its his call :D
And look where that attitude got Collins
Right now I kinda want Rangin to get up-close-and-personal with that stun gun. What the heck, why is he suddenly Hsu's BFF? Isn't he the guy who just told Kylah "not now, my dear, we must think of group unity, be as one with the universe, at least until the case is solved"?
Been there, done that. At least the helpless for a while part.
Then again, Kylah just decided to ignore everyone's feelings and scan whether they like it or not. Because group unity means I don't trust you until I have scanned you.
Way to hit one of Rangin's hot button topics.
Oh quiet, you! This is all Graham's fault. Kylah wouldn't have had to fall on her sword if Graham had the sense God gave a turnip. :D Plus, as I hope Rangin will eventually find out, Kylah didn't want everyone scanned. She wanted Hsu scanned, a freakin' suspect who is (apparently) the only person with the technical knowhow and opportunity to pull off this unbelievably convoluted murder, at least as a co-conspirator.
And while I'm a bleeding heart liberal with the best of 'em, even I don't think it's wise to just ask someone who might very well have control of a weapon that seems to need no time or visible physical movement to activate, "hey, is it okay if I scan you to see if you have this superpowered weapon that we can't possibly protect ourselves against since it can be used faster than a guy can fire a phaser?"
Because geeze, if he has that weapon and also has two brain cells to rub together, he'll use it before you finish saying the word "scan."
Hee hee hee
Graham certainly lacks the tact of a turnip, but he's not totally unthinking here... Hsu probably isn't suicidally loyal to Hardin, so would it make sense for him to take an incriminating weapon with him? Would he be confident it would work on everybody? And if it did, then what the hell does he do--there's still a whole ship in orbit and he's just 100% outed himself and upped the ante...
But then I shouldn't write this here, I should save it for a patient lecture Graham can give Kylah later...:lol:
Unless of course Hsu kills us all in the next few game minutes :o
Then why did Graham ask for a scan at all, particularly of everyone? And why in public? Hsu would bring something like that along and utilize it for the same reason Hardin did--if he had no other choice. I doubt it was Hardin's best option either, but apparently for whatever reason, he felt it was better than doing nothing. And for all we know, ahem, there's some kind of cloaked ship out there.
At this point I kinda hope he does. Kylah's probably going to ask to be beamed back up to the ship.Quote:

1. He was resolved to act on Kylah's suggestion
2. That's the way Graham is inclined to do things
3.a It never would have occurred to him it would bother her if he didn't do it surreptitiously (...ok, so you win, there's the turnip angle...)
3.b. I think a scan is legally probably like a search so a covert scan might have been illegal
3.c. He really did want to send Hsu to the security office, but sending-a-bad-Hsu-with-a-stun-thingy to the two Security officers would have been really bad. Whereas Kylah's go-to skill in a pickle is, you know, skillful communication, Graham's is more of a borderline reckless physical courage...
 Oh man, I hope he uses the noble "I didn't want to put two security officers in danger, so it was better to risk Hsu zapping all of us" line when speaking 'patiently' to Kylah. She'll rip him a new one!
I'm also not entirely convinced that legality is uppermost in Graham's mind considering he doesn't have a warrant nor did he even ask permission before ordering Delaney to scan everyone in the room. :)
Yeah, well, he wouldn't be on the firmest ground on the former...
On the latter his intincts are more about what if it panned out... sneaky scan = obviously inadmissable, caught up in declared room scan w/o objecting or leaving, maybe would be admitted as evidence....rather than legal niceties ;)
(And of course if Hsu objects to being scanned that would be weird if he wants to be in the club...)
I felt like Graham needed some love today.
Of course too bad it's a distant, irrecoverable memory...in Apocrypha.
Awww, that was sweet! My boys liked to wake me by pouncing back in the day....
You know, you could have just asked Delaney to scan the room in general to make sure it was secure and let him use some common sense to expand the range to include other devices.
A generic scan across the room is one thing. Having him individually scan each person for something, as if you don't trust any of them, is completely different. :smash:
Well obviously the former lacks that extra special sauce of infuriating Rangin...
(Actually to be honest, funnily enough, here's a case of in-game rather than meta-game thinking: I was just playing Graham, I didn't in fact think about Rangin's reaction at all at the time I wrote that post...)
Hey Booker! Guilt much?
Clearly he doesn't mind Rangin catching pneumonia after getting drenched on Graham's orders! :) I bet you wouldn't let Kylah walk around in a soaking wet uniform!
Hmm. On second thought... his feelings might be a bit mixed on that score considering the circumstances..
With Graham checking out bringing up the rear.
Oops... in main thread 3106 I didn't realize Rangin and Kylah had stepped out as opposed to drawing off to the side - I propose that Booker's comment there be read as taking place as Rangin and Kylah walk back into the room (3113).
Sorry about that.
Hmm, I don't think there's a conflict. Velir asked his question to Graham, then briefly went to Kylah while Graham had time to mull it over and grit his teeth or flex his muscles or whatever he does. :D Next, Graham asked him the question of what he wants to do, and (after realizing he couldn't get his shirt dry after all), Velir answered you. After which, then he and Kylah went out of the room.
Oh my as a result of the cold and damp Rangin must be running a high fever, he expressed (grudging) approval of Graham... :o
Definitely a fever. He also just went up to Hardin's suite, which he told Kylah to do earlier! :)
Maybe Rangin needs time to process the fact that Miss Perfect just told him Graham wasn't worse than 1,000 Hitlers :D
OK EH earns XP for having Delaney try to cobble together a lightning rod... ROTFL
Très amusant, but be fair, Kylah puts Rangin on a pedestal, not the other way around. It's clear Rangin is aware Kylah is hopelessly flawed, but he seems to like her anyway. Unlike certain other black-and-white thinkers on this team, he doesn't seem to require women to be categorized as either Madonnas or sluts.
Anyway it's too bad Graham didn't overhear Kylah's semi-defense of him. I would have been curious to know his reaction!
Will have to think about how he would have reacted.
And nicely done on reading Graham. I was at an event with the president of Trinidad and Tobago some year ago (long story) and these two guys flanked her as she walked through the room to the podium and you could feel in the air (a) these are presidential bodyguards and (b) do NOT fuck with these guys... Was trying to capture that.
Rangin always tries to see the best in everyone, just like Graham tries...well, Graham is always trying. ;)
OMG if Rangin gets waxed while disobeying Graham's explicit orders he won't even need to feel guilty about it
Hmm. I always thought that Madonna was a slut.
You will recall that the Yorktown has a Lyceum for the arts, literature and higher learning. The latest Naval History magazine has an article on the role of the Lyceum in early U.S. Navy history: http://www.usni.org/magazines/navalh...-enlightenment
Oh anyrose, you're going to give away our ages with that reference. And I doubt CIAS will get it at all. (Although never count him out...)
Wow, no wonder Garcia was such a great marksman--his hearing is keen enough to reach from the Hotel Tower #2 all the way across the resort to the transporter room! :D (Garcia has been assigned to be Kylah's backup since #3100, and we're both already at the 3rd floor near Ebling's hideout; also, remember that he's in Communications and is apparently an expert in cryptography. Not saying he can't do that and also be a great marksman, but... point is, he's not Security, at any rate!)
I had to google it. A 1975 reference from SNL indeed. And here I was thinking the pair of you were both in your 30's :p
For me, the only candygram sketch I remember is from Blazing Saddles, although not from when it released, seeing as the movie is older than I am. :D
FYI I was drafted to attend a conference will be able to post tomorrow evening, I think - sorry if I am holding things up!
Nice piece on Collins, anyrose.
Any chance of picking up Dobson for a run to the Colony?
Oh dear, good luck with the conference, general_urko! Looks like our poor blokes will be in the rain for a while longer.
And welcome back again, anyrose! I particularly enjoyed seeing Collins being Collinsy. :D
Makes a note to have Kylah clever enough to belittle her crappy job performance to her supervisor while weepy and vulnerable in a hospital bed, recovering from her rape trauma. Who but a monster would say anything but 'there there, don't be so hard on yourself, my dear...'
(But seriously, I was confused by her reference to not 'using' anything for a month, though. Wasn't her last use of 'Elsewhere' just 2 1/2 days ago? The night before the mission?)
Yes, but that was after several months of not using. Collins has gone months between fixes, believing she could kick it, but "just when I think I'm out, they pull me back in"
Ahhhhh. So she was talking about before that last trip (or whatever you'd call it, sorry, I'm so straightedge I could cut glass). Gotcha!
OK, good to be back from the real world of technology where I'm treated like a respected expert to the game world where Graham is treated like a dangerous dunderhead...!
Welcome back G_U :madsci:
Don't tell me, you do this to let out your inner doofus?
