My Halloween costume is going to be AWESOME!
And what will it be?
It's the flapper costume I told you about. I'm still collecting pieces. Really need the headband!
Will you have a hip flask, or drink champagne from your shoes?
Have you ever sneeze Pepsi out through your nose? Diet Rite? Clamato?
Yep. I just got home from seeing Muse. Yes, they are awesome.
Lucky!
Yes. Yes, I am. And, holy crap, I still sound rough.
Hi! I am excessively drunk! I don't know if it's because I haven't had a drink since Zuul was down here, or just because the bartender wanted to give me my money's worth.
Anyway, this would be the time to ask me ANYTHING about me, because I'm pretty sure I won't lie, or even be evasive.
And, I have had Teenage Dream as sung by that pretend boys' school choir on Glee in my head all damn day.
Was the bartender cute?
I don't know. We were at Friday's, at a table in the restaurant part. The server was adorable, though.
Are you hungover?
Nope. I have only gotten hung over once in my entire life.
Are you the only one who can post pad in this thread or are other people allowed to?
I think anyone
can post pad this
thread with questions.
Does this mean
you are happy
for me to
post pad this way? ;)
Maybe, I need
to start answering
all my questions
in spurty posts.
I am posting from a Nook Color! This shit is awesome!
How well does that handle, say, children's books and the illustrations in them?
Pretty darn well!
Do you have any opinions about airplanes on treadmills?
Well, I'm all for airplanes having more strength and stamina. If they use a treadmill to achieve that, more power to them.
I will also say that, while on treadmills (or people movers, as they are often called when they go backwards), I've had opinions about airplanes. I'm just at a loss as to what they were now.
In case it wasn't obvious before, Marsilia is not nor has she ever been a Doper. :D
There's still time. If you feel you've missed out something in the experience....
I think I'm probably fine without it.
But don't you think you'd look more alluring with that uncontrollable tic at the corner of your cheek?
If you really work at it, you can get them to syncopate each other. That's awesome! :D
Oooooh! That would be pretty cool! Great conversation...ender.
Just think how quickly the customers would run from you! :madsci:
But, if I don't sell things, they will stop giving me hours. :(
so I guess you're gonna stay away from the Durp. Even gems like this thread.
Trust me, it's a harmless thread. Honest.
I generally only read threads that others supply to me, then rant about how [insult varies] the posters are.
I am terribly bored, so I think I shall cheat and post randomly from my new favorite toy.
Can you load some Hieronymous Bosch onto your toy to see how far the resolution of the color image will take you?
I don't think so, but I'm also not sure how I'd try something like that.
Okay - how about some Where's Waldo books?
Dunno if those are available! I'll try after lunch!
People need tolearn how to drive. I nearly got hit twice tonight!
Roller skates and Mack trucks just don't mix.
I know, right? Also, when there are cars coming, one should avoid trying to cross two lanes of oncoming traffic like the old dude who seemed to think I had time to do something other than slam on my breaks so he could do just that. :(
How busy does the shop get over Thanksgiving?
Generally, we don't get Walmart busy, but we're far busier than on the average Friday. This year, they've already let slip that we're going to have some Black Friday specials, so we're likely to be swamped early. Fortunately, I'm neither opening nor closing. Unfortunately, I have to find parking in the early afternoon.
Time to dust off the ol' jetpack?
I was thinking I might just make nice with the Panda, but a jetpack might be easier than snagging a ride. ;)
If you're going to just use banned tech, why not go for a teleportation booth hidden in the staff room?
Oh, Loki! If I had access to the teleportation device, I'd have already gotten Zuul back down here at least once.
So over than the teleportation device, what is your favourite sci-fi device.
Anything that creates or develops psychic powers, whether it be a drug, a chip in the brain, or some kind of radiation.
Do you have a favorite sf or fantasy weapon?
I have a weakness for knives as a general thing. They can be stubby light sabers, Wolverine style claws, enchanted knives and swords, or plain old blades in the hands of someone with special powers.
I take it this helps when daydreaming about your more annoying customers?
Actually, funny you should mention daydreaming about customers. I actually have a recurring one when I work at the register that involves hopping catlike onto the counter and biting the customer's face off. Often, because my mouth isn't that big, I end up unhinging my fantasy jaws to do it. Then, I sit contentedly on the counter and chew the face bits as they scream.
And, for shits and giggles (and because I'm about to break 1000 posts), I'mma bump this bitch.
And because you're awake and bored, I bet. :)
Am I that transparent?
Why else post at oh-dark-thrity?
Part of it was to see who would respond. :D I was eyeing the "Who's On?" and was all "Well, Loki's about. He might post. Maybe, one or two of the others. But, not that one dude."
What does the new Nook software update do?
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
Faster page turns, adds the "shelves" feature, which is really cool. You can organize your library any way you want, pretty much (by genre, amount of sex, number of swear words, shelves to keep vampires and werewolves separated....). And, there's also a way to set your bookmark to update at the B&N site, so you can move seamlessly from your Nook to another device with a Nook app. And, I think you can password protect the store, but I haven't been shopping since it came down.
999 posts for Marsilia! Oliveloaf started a special thread to celebrate #1000!
Okay! I'm at work and bored. Somebody post stuff here to entertain me!
Dang, I wasn't around to help you out this AM, but here's something for tomorrow:
http://chzgifs.files.wordpress.com/2...fe20134f6e.gif
That.
Is.
Awesome.
I know, right?
So freakin' cool!
Love it!
How are things for you tonight?
So far, so good! Except, it's cold. The housekeeper always turns the heat off, and I always forget until it's so cold I can't stand it.
I don't complain much. My dad pays her and I don't have to do dishes or clean the bathroom. I can put on more clothes.
So, should I be amused that I went in to pick my puppy up from "doggy lock up," and the chick at the counter's eyes lit up and she started gushing about how sweet my dog is?
Sparky can charm anyone. Right up until they realize she's Simple Dog from Hyperbole and a Half.
She really is. She's the sweetest dog in the world, and it really was love at first sight when I found her at PetSmart, but she's just not very bright most of the time.
Has she seen snow? And if not, would you be willing to make a trip so she could see it, and then video tape her reaction to it?
I've got a couch and a big backyard!
just don't forget the video camera.
Have you started your Christmas shopping yet?
I have! I've gotten my dad, my step-mom, and half the "I'm sending all your December gifts in one package to save on postage" gift for my BFF! My mom and her side of the family are getting gift cards, since I love them and respect their frugality too much to waste postage, but those can be picked up next paycheck.
So, I let the dogs out for roughly thirty minutes this morning, and when I went to feed them, Simple Dog had already managed to haul tail across the street. Then, she came running back to the gate she'd tunneled under and looked at it with much confusion, as if to say "How did I get to this side? How do I get back?" I'm highly annoyed at her right now.
When she looks in your eyes and whimpers, I have a feeling you'll forgive her.
Already have. She came bounding around to the gate when I got home from school this evening, and I got out of the car to praise her for being "such a good backyard girl!"
How does Simple Dog do outside nowadays - is it very cold there? It's going to be 30 degrees F here for the next few days. Winter is well and truly upon us here in NE Ohio.
It's dipping into the low thirties tonight, but it'll be back up into the fifties tomorrow, so Simple Dog and her companion are cheating and sleeping on the couch. I'm pretending I don't see them, since I don't want them rattling around my room while I try to sleep. She got out Saturday morning, which sucked a lot, but she's been good since then, as far as I can tell. Part of me thinks she's trying to run away from the cold, or she's decided that she gets to be Inside Dog if she comes in the front door. I'm...not sure.
Holy crap! It's twenty-eight degrees outside!
Hope you're staying warm. It's 22 degrees here right at the moment, but at least it hasn't been windy. Yet.
So far, so good. Simple Dog and Sam are on the couch and the heat's going. I have one pair of flannel jammies left (the others have disintegrated), and that's another thing I really want for Christmas!
I've gotten in the habit of sleeping in sweatpants, a sweatshirt and wool socks in the coldest times of winter. Keeps me nice and toasty.
That does sound good, except I couldn't sleep with my feet constricted like that. I know. I'm weird. :P
Fahrenheit. I joked to somebody that I moved south to avoid this kind of weather, and she said, "We'll make up for it this summer. Don't worry."
So, as one of the top tech people in the store, I have been gifted with...a book! It's an ARC of some new teen fantasy/romance series that's about to come out, and I'm never scheduled to work in the kids' or teens' sections, so management apparently passed it off to me strictly because the letter from corporate (not the publisher, but our B&N kids' buyer) said it was amazing.
I think I'm kinda flattered that they thought of me. :)
Let us know how you like it, when appropriate to do so! :)
I'm only about half done with The Secret Diary of Elizabeth Tudor Vampire Slayer (which is pretty good so far), but I'll let you know.
I'm about a hundred pages into Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell, which reads somewhat like if Jane Austen wrote a Harry Potter book. So far it's great!
That's an interesting description! Personally, I think one of my issues with Jane Austen was the language, so I'm not sure I'd enjoy that one. I do love some modern fantasy, though.
Oh, it definitely reads like Austen. If you don't enjoy the ritualistic social customs, very precise language and thinly-veiled drawing room hostility of Regency England, you wouldn't like this.
Good to know! I tend to avoid the precise language and the Regency social customs. It just all tends to run together for me after a while.
Randomly, even all my years working in the service industries haven't dampened my Christmas spirit.
So, what would it take to dampen your Christmas spirit? A septic leak?
I'm not sure!
We may have to start referring to my Simple Dog as Houdoggi. Last night, she managed to break a harness, dig a hole, and get down the street in the time it took me to watch two YouTube song performances (and, they weren't long songs, as Zuul can tell you). Today, I was horrible and cruel and left her in a cage for eight hours so that I could be assured that she'd still be alive when I got home. I felt especially bad when she went running across the yard to find an appropriate place to relieve herself. :( She seems to have forgiven me, though she also seems to hate the new (thicker) harness I got for her.
I am posting from my Nook Color.
FROM MY BED!!!
Hi! I'm drunk!
Hi Drunk! What did you do with Marsilia? :D
Fed her wine! Woooooooo!
How much wine? And was it the good stuff? (We need to know these things for later.)
Maybe, four glasses, and it's thisstuff that starts with an M that I'm too lazy to get up and look at the spelling for.
Was there a special reason for the drinking? Or just because?
It is the future bro's birthday!
It would be lovely if I could chat from my Nook, but I can't. :(
Ahh... but can you order a pizza from your Nook?
Probably! I haven't tried.
I am bored!
derobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderob derobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderob derobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderob derobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderob derobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderob derobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderob derobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderob derobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderob derobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderob derobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderob derobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderob derobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderob derobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderob derobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderob derobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderob derobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderob derobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderob derobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderobderob derobderobderobderob
ETA: Okay, that looks funky. I wonder why the tail?
You are a strange, strange man, Loki.
Yup. :D
How do you like your crawdads?
My sushi place does a crawfish roll that's to die for. I'm also a big fan of seafood gumbo. Gotta find a new place to get it, though. Might try the Blowfly.
Am I just being squeamish to think that "The Blowfly" leaves something to be desired on the scale of appetizing names for a resturant?
Yes. It's cute and folksy, darnit! It's also right on the waterfront. Really picturesque.
"The name blow-fly comes from an older English term for meat that had eggs laid on it, which was said to be fly blown."
This is appetizing to consider with your food, how?
I...don't put that much thought into it? They have tasty southern food. I'd eat there if they changed their name to Shit on a Plate.
Okay. Maybe not.
We'd have drinks at Shit on a Plate, but eat at Spit in Your Glass.
What if I want something to drink with my meal? Hipflask?
Yes. Yes, you are.
Izzit nultday, yet?
I am very cold. I'm not sure why, as the heater was set to seventy-five degrees. For some reason, though, I was shivering. My hands and feet actually hurt. Maybe, I have some disease that's eventually going to kill me dead?
Have you checked to see if you have a fever?
I did not, as I was the only one home, we have no thermometer, and I really can't check myself.
Might be a good idea to have one of those on hand, just in case. :)
Might be! You know this has been going on for a while.
Have you ever been checked for a circulation or heart problem?
And speaking of health, when I read about Samaritan Ministries I thought of you and had been meaning to pass the link on. It's a really cool idea where a bunch of Christians get together to "bear one another's burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ." Everyone shares the burden of everyone else's health care costs.
I've never been checked, no. I'll definitely check that site out, though. Looks like an interesting idea.
Bored now. Working register. Totally cheating.
Isn't technology grand?
Yes, Peeta. Yes, it is. :)
This is what I get for offering to stay late. Stuck here an extra 3.5 hours.
But, hey: money!
Damn right, money. I'll be delighted by this turn of events, come pay day.
If there is Marsilia wrecking going on, it ain't my fault. :P
Do tell. Whose fault would it be?
Well, I hate to point fingers, but weird weather and a neurochemical imbalance make for a sickly little nookseller.
:(
Okay, so I'm totally bumping this thread in case I have anything random to get off my chest while I'm at work later. Y'all feel free to ask me random shit, too. :)
Things are running on my roof
But I ain't got a lick of proof
They wake me when I'm sleeping late
And, on my nerves they really grate
What are your thoughts on Shock Treatment?
I've actually only seen it once, and felt that it was trying way too hard to capture the "magic" of Rocky. There are places in the dialogue where they actually pause for callbacks, which I find to be a bit like laughing at your own joke.
I've known you for over a decade and yet I just realized I don't know this. What's your favorite kind of cake?
You don't know this because there's no real answer, if that makes you feel better. I love most cakes from the chocolate family, and I prefer bakery cakes for the frosting. I also like using strawberries and strawberry glaze as a topping or filling, but that might just be a chocolate/strawberry love coming out.
Dude! My friend's girlfriend brought their dog into the store and camped out behind the register for about half an hour!
So what's your favorite kind of pie?
Key lime, if it's done right. Now, feel free to ask me what "right" is. I shall not answer with any kind of specificity, since I do not cook.
Do you have a cure for Monday Mornings?
Retail. There're no real weekends if you don't have a set schedule, so Monday's no worse than Thursday.
Can you do the Snoopy Dance?
Yes.
and the video is uploaded on Youtube where???
Are you kidding? Not even Zuul has seen this.
Because, she was in the process of getting ready to move across the country, and they wanted to spend a little while more together. She looked around at one point and said something about having her dog and her boyfriend and being surrounded by books, then asked if she was dead. It was really sweet.
It'really slow and I' m bored, so bumpage!
How did you get to be friends with Zuul?
What's your favored mix drink?
Well, a million years ago (or, back in 1999, if you want to get technical) roleplaying through e-mail was super popular. I had just lost one of my players who participated in several of my Buffy games. I was whining about it in a chat room, and this angel of mercy posts "I can do it," and everything snowballed from there. Through the years, we've vacationed together, spent holidays, and spoken almost every day. And, I'm gonna stop here before I get mushy.
Hey, I'm in Florida now! Do you like your Key Lime Pie extra tart, as I do?
Yes! Hell damn yes!
What is it with Key Lime Pie?
