Your questions about First Among Equals are cracking me up, EH. It's like a timewarp back to freshman year of college. I don't know anyone who's read Archer's books, and FAE is the reason I've always loved the name "Simon." (Although of the whole Jeffrey Archer oeuvre, I think my favorite is The Prodigal Daughter, the sequel to Kane and Abel.)
First Among Equals is one of my favorite political novels ever; I've read it at least three times. I read just about everything Archer wrote up to 1996 or so, but not much since. Haven't read Kane and Abel or The Prodigal Daughter, but I really liked Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less, A Matter of Honour and his short story collections, A Quiver Full of Arrows and A Twist in the Tale.
After hearing about what a jerk he is (he was once designated "Author We'd Least Like to Escort" by the book tour section of the American Booksellers Assn.), I wasn't too upset about his later fall from grace, including prison.

OMG, great choices with the Brad Dourif / Crispin Glover thing. Unlike Glover, however, I'm pretty sure Dourif is actually a normal human being. At least I've never heard of any incidents. (Can't say the same for Tiger Woods, but in fairness it was his wife who did the golf club attack.)
