But me being a fancy uncle in charge of two nephews, ages one and three, at least had the forethought to bring some sheet music (Bach's e-minor Partita, torn out of the Bischoff edition for just such an occasion) and a book or three and play some "radio" in my head. Also, it was good for the three-year-old to see, "hey, writing is weird, there's some English there, some round dots there, some German, some Italian, WTF? Big mystery! Let's play checkers." We had a ball -- four hours just seeing the sights, riding the elevators (no music), him telling me what the younger one wants. To quote the motion picture *Blue Velvet*, "It's a strange world."

Most certainly. I view the RCC as a foundation of a shared culture, much in the same way that people root for a sports team. I've seen it happen many times, when a little town gets swept up into a frenzy about a team which is but a name to them. Felt the same way, several times. The difference between a pedant who would view society as some kind of voluntary contract and me is that I not only see and acknowledge the pro forma obligations, but I feel them as a part of me. It's the difference between being a bastard and knowing who your father was. In my case, I have a zeal for correct behavior that is unmatched, except by the odd serial killer, or whatever, but that zeal has to do with the world as it is seen by everyone. We call that, in the science of computing, an ontology. It's merely a collection of not only facts, but facts-of-states-of-affairs (together with temporal variations, which we'll discuss later, but are easily handled by Kripkean semantics), and, above all, and needlessly added after-the-fact, "is it true?" That one epistemic question is garbage to the scientific ontologist, for the very reason that we think qualia are important -- they're important because they're there. So, we do computer science for the very reason to sort out the errors you people make. Is there a better way? Good question: answer is maybe. How do we know? Let's see with pencil and paper.
