Fuck this bullshit and fuck you for writing it. Thanks to you, this is how I'm making my inaugural post on this board. I get it that because I'm not one of the "top tier" "A-listers" you have no desire to read my meager contributions alongside your great ones, but What The Fuck?
I don't give a shit if you "respect me for awhile (sic)" before I'm "allowed" to contribute whatever the fuck I want! Who are you to tell me where and how to post or that I need to "show (who again?) some MERIT?"
Avoid direct contact with people? What the fuck!?! Are you serious?? Well, I for sure as fuck won't let the door hit my ass on the way out. See? Your suggestion worked like a fucking charm.

Pretty damn good for a first timer! :D

Re: Drama Queens and the inability to let go
I was with you until the bit about you taking your ball and going home. That's silly. He doesn't speak for everyone. I could practically feel your spittle flying at me when I read your post, and that means you certainly belong here in the Thunderdome.
-
Re: Drama Queens and the inability to let go
Direct conflict, dumbass. Not contact. Simply saying debuting on a board by jumping in and slinging flames the way the OP did in this thread is not a good way to introduce oneself.

But it doesn't matter. SFP is a tool but it's not because he's "new" or whatever. If someone flames another poster and their complaints are not valid I will think them a fool whoever they are. But if they are right then I would laugh and agree.
This board is brand new. We are all newbies here.

Re: Drama Queens and the inability to let go
I would like to state, for anyone who may be interested or perhaps incapacitated and unable to close the thread or otherwise look away, that no one on this board speaks for me. My views are not represented by anyone else's words. People are speaking for themselves and represent themselves--not everyone, not the board, and not me.

I don't understand. I think this is sound advice, and I offered it without malice. It's what I do whenever I join a board where I'm not known. Why is it such a horrible thing to say?

At very minimum, it's sort of silly. What, are people going to be outraged by the terribly rough-and-tumble culture of the thunderdome, until they become used to it after a few weeks of lurking? Please.

I don't think that's what he means.
I'm thinking he's talking about the OP. I think he's saying that a person should hang around a board for a while, kind of get acquainted with the other posters, let everyone get a good idea of who they are, before they jump off into the Thunderdome with a rant; and get a better reception because of doing that first.
Whether you agree with him or not is, of course, a different matter.
Also muddying the waters here is the fact that the OP was a poster on the other board for a while, so he wasn't actually an unknown quantity. Maybe Oakminster just never noticed him.

Well, okay. Although it seems like "don't post really terribly stupid shit" would suffice.

Really thought that's what I said.
As for SFP, he's been registered at the Dope for 9 years, has 766 posts according to his profile. I never noticed him until recently.

Re: Drama Queens and the inability to let go
Could someone provide a link to the thread he started on the Dope that's the same OP as this one? I searched for threads started by Stink Fish Pot, but there's nothing. Methinks it's been disappeared, but perhaps my search-fu is weak today. Many thanks.
I would like to reiterate what Julie said..no one here speaks for me but me. As far as I'm concerned everyone is welcome here unless they post for the sole purpose of causing strife. I can't hate on someone for posting something stupid. Stones...glass houses...all that.

Re: Drama Queens and the inability to let go
So who's the Drama Queen that can't let go, Liberal or Stinkfish Pot? Is Stinkfish Pot pitting himself?

Look over yonder in the BBQ pit for a (locked) thread with the words Queen and Drama in it. It's still on page 1.

I don't quite think they're the same things though.
"Don't post really terribly stupid shit if you want to be better received as a new poster" is really something that goes without saying. It really should be obvious enough that you wouldn't offer that as blanket advise to all new posters.
The advise given though is a bit more subtle to me. I'd pretty much give similar advise and here's what my rationale would be. The way people get to know you is by how you post. People read your thoughts, interact with you and form an opinion about you based on this. The pit like fora are usually heated, emotionally charged places where people don't generally present their better sides. It stands to reason then that someones first impression of you probably isn't going to be well served if that impression is a typical pit rant. Make that pit rant about someone who is known for more than their pit persona and you can see how that one is going to turn out.

Who are you again? Oh, right. The 9,432nd person to post shit about Lib. As you can see, all those efforts have truly sucked the guys will to live right out of him. He's practically in tears, I'm sure.
Go post somewhere else for a while and learn how to spew some fucking vitriol, these standard "Fuck you Liberal" threads are a dime a dozen.

There's something to be said for judging a post on its own merits, and not your opinion of the personality behind it. You'd be suprised how often a fresh set of eyes can see through the bullshit others miss.

I didn't care about the ban hamster. I just wonder how long it would have taken you to hit "report this post" or tell me to do a sexual act with an animal if I had posted it to you. Your skin is mighty thin. And you must think mine is, because that was to get a rise out of me. It didn't work.
As for this accusation of trolling QED, I don't think you have the evidence to support that. I did post in one thread right after he did. Like I said, QED can and does take care of himself rather well. I guess I did post shamelessly, though, because I didn't have anything to be ashamed of. The other parts of your post have already been addressed up-thread. Except to say that I had no intention of staring a board war. That seemed to be the opinion of prr, who reported the post.
