No, I'm totally trustworthy. In fact some of us regulars are so trustworthy that you should respond with your password in plaintext.
I won't let anything happen to you: you're a respected fellow musician and an amateur of the culinary arts!
Well I've saved my password this time, so hopefully I won't get locked out again. It's funny that the place is so barren that we can have a sprawling conversation in any thread, in any forum haha. Crazy compared to what it used to be. I actually prefer this version, though. No drama, just people contribute what they want then piss off. It's lovely.
Hasn't it always been this way? I don't know about the game-oriented sub-forums, but it's always been pretty slow and steady @ the lounge.
And nobody gets sand in the hoo-ha if one says a naughty word.
I'm convinced if I ever get around to setting up the digital piano at an *L*-angle to the Hammond (Crumar Mojo Classic with full-size foot pedals, actually, but sounds damned good) I can get this broad to sing and play a rudimentary tune like Aretha's version of *Think* on piano. She can sing pretty well, and although her hands can barely span an octave, I think that would be a good project.
And not no simple version of Aretha's playing....exactly what she plays on the recording. No, not going to write it out or anything....it's basically a vamp tune, so pretty simple once when has the rhythm and a few chords.
Sort of my version of *My Fair Lady*: class this dame up a bit. Not to mention that she's a Mexican-American and I speak more Spanish than she does (never studied it....just picked it up around town and on the job). And she has expressed an interest in learning Spanish....but she's the type who wants to "take a class in it" and all that....which mentality I can't quite get behind. Just learn it yourself! I suppose many people just aren't self-motivated enough to stick with something on their own. Which is fine....different strokes, I guess.
Yeah but now it's like a few people having their run of a ghost town.
Are you really a "crackhead"? I've never used the stuff.
No, of course not! I've smoked some rock, just socially a long time ago. Coke before the whole fentanyl thing....a bit of H, but China white so I could snort it like a sorority girl.
That was a long time ago....I hardly ever smoke weed and am on the functional side of alcoholism...got my own rules/schedule for drinking so never get the shakes or physically dependent.
Aha, you're just a loose unit then ;)
I can't handle weed either. I enjoyed it for about a month, then my body suddenly said "no, no more of that". Dave Grohl had the same thing happen to him. So sometimes I smoke klip dagga. I grow it in my garden so it's free, and it's 100% legal here (three countries in eastern Europe have laws against it). Just have to buy papers and filters (and a one-off purchase of a rolling machine, because it's so much easier.
Dunno what "klip dagga" is, but I'll take you at your word that it's satisfactory.
Funny thing is that since weed is legal in my state....pot shops on every corner....never been in one.
But I've won a bunch of pre-rolled joints playing pool over the years.....they just sit on my desk with my pens and pencils.
Weed just takes me out of circulation for too long....I don't really enjoy just sitting around and measuring how much lint is in my belly button.
That said, I should get back into proper hallucinogens soon....acid or mushrooms....I can count on taking a day off and just heading off into the woods and observing birds and trees and such. I'm used to those enough that I (probably) won't have a bummer of a trip, you know!
I tried mushrooms once and hated it. LSD was pretty gRo0vY, though.

I'd bet the psylocibin would become inert (my Anatomy and Physiology textbook is in the car) if one tried to cook it on a pizza.
Curious reaction, you had. I'd guess shrooms are a bit more fast-acting, whereas el Cid takes a bit more time to get started, and by that time one is committed to the whole trip.
More difficult to get clean, potent acid, though, at least where I'm at. Whereas I know a guy who has many, many growing environments for mushrooms....former bandmate, actually.
Also, drugs are bad, m'kay? So don't do them.
Unless absolutely necessary!
The mushrooms I had were brewed by my uncle, and I think he might've done it wrong. It tasted horrible, and I felt like I was dying. I couldn't even eat normal mushrooms for decades afterwards. Whereas the acid, I just slipped in and out of it comfortably. Had my fun, got on with my life. My acid source became suddenly "unavailable" and I realised I didn't need to keep doing it. I already "opened the portal" and it was time to move on to other things.
Oh, well....mushrooms generally taste terrible...at least the kind we're talking about.
But I'll always go for a slice or even two of a pizza with mushrooms on top, plus some sliced, cured olives.
Yeah, it's been maybe mumble mumble years/decades since I was into shrooms or LSD (Long Slow Distance method of increasing one's ability to run faster, of course....the phrase coined by the elite runner Joe Henderson, not to be confused with the saxophone great with the same name).
But the great French poet and graphic artist Henri Michaux did advocate for "checking in" every so often with hallucinogens just to see what happens....I figure I'm about overdue for a check-in....no, I'm not talking about microdosing, but full-on tripping balls.
Perhaps a new food group could be dextromethorphan....but about three years ago when I was with this chick, I was like "Hey, let's get some cough syrup and drink it all and go out to the woods and walk twenty miles or so."
No, something about her knees or something. Fuck it, I'll go it alone! Especially after the way that drunken hamster greeted me yesterday....don't need that kind of company!
Yeah, if one has the time to commit to a heavy trip on acid, I think it's a bit cleaner experience.
Mushrooms are great....provided one has a good source....but it's harder to get the full experience, IMHO.
Last time I did shrooms my sister was still in high school, and she had her boyfriend at the time with her (still in touch with him via FB....cool guy, knows a lot about car repair, HAM radio operator, etc.). Naw, for five or so hours I just sat in the other room and played piano along with Thelonious Monk records....pretty chill.
Thelonious Monk would be wild to listen to while tripping the light haha.
What about 3 guitars?
[QUOTE=Jizzelbin;350506] Not me! I can only copy! Well, jazz is a little different, but still don't have the full fretboard knowledge to intelligently come up with nice chord voicings on the upper four strings or so.
Here ya go https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XdPTw4ZsoOY
[QUOTE=Trojan Man;350601] Har der fricking har.
I guess the one who just really just did random tunings was Joni Mitchell....supposedly that kept her fresh and she'd just do random things.
I stand by Open-G, though....mostly because of Keef, as well as everybody who played slide blues-style. A little more difficult to get minor chords or different chord qualities. No, can't play jazz in the tuning.....just haven't learned how nor am going to....but I can get by OK with the archtop for other stuff, I guess. An archtop through a right amp and cabinet....it can sound like anything. It's more that I like heavier 14s flatwounds with a higher action on the archtop, so can't do a whole lot of bending
But it's not that difficult to switch from Standard-E to Open-G on a regular guitar strung with 11s or such.
Plus, nothing that can't be solved by a beat-down with a heavy Telecaster.
Although I'd like to trade one of my Squier Teles for a nylon-string acoustic....except acoustics....can't really adjust the action at the bridge as far as I know...kind of stuck with what you get. So, question, that's more or less true, am I right? Or wrong? Don't know a lot about acoustic/classical guitars.
Yeah Joni had a lot of tunings. As in hundreds, if I'm remembering correctly. I would do that if I had enough guitars. It's probably just as well that I don't - it's tricky enough keeping up with 5 or 6. Sonic Youth had some ridiculous tunings. I think you'd really like DADGAD. It's pretty easy to play in and sounds cool. You can do bluesy stuff in it quite easily. Man Of Constant Sorrow is in DADGAD and sounds amazing. Also some Fleetwood Mac songs like The Chain. One of my tunings is DADGBbD, which makes G minor easy to play. I recommend at least listening to some DADGAD.
I think you nailed why I don't like composing in open G: the spicier chords are a bitch to play. I get why people like it, though. Especially if you're into the blues or the Rolling Stones.
Nylon string guitars IME are more temperamental than your regular guitar. Harder to keep in tune, harder to adjust in almost every way. Although you can adjust the nut by replacing it. That's something, I guess. But they do sound nice, feel nice to play, and are much easier on the fingertips. Although it's a bit harder on the hand and wrist because the neck's so fat. But it's not too bad. JSYK there's a difference between a classical and a nylon string guitar. I recommend going for the nylon string.
Yeah, just because of my hand size, the fatter and wider the neck/fretboard is, the better. Kenny Burrell did some cool stuff in jazz with a nylon string.
DADGAD,,,,yeah, I just can't get my head around that tuning, although I know people use it plenty. Not much for folk or "ethnic" musics.
The nut can and probably should be changed to a bone nut in all cases....it's more adjusting at the bridge I'm concerned about, but once it's set up correctly...the bridge, that is....it should be good to go. Probably even get some flamenco style stuff going on.
Not worried about "me, I got callouses on me fingertips!" They're pretty rugged from wearing work gloves all the time, plus it's not like I need to do Ed Van Halen or Tony Iommi technical stuff.....just more mellow sound from the nylon strings.
I know a true classical guitar is different....both geometry and playing style, but I do like to dabble in playing Bach and earlier lute music on guitar.
The archtop sounds OK just plays fine unplugged.
More later. I got this drunken hamster in my bed and I promised to give her a lift home in a few hours.
QUESTION: after this girl promised to call me back on the phone after she was done eating pizza, and three hours later, nothing, this text was completely appropriate to send:
