There are so many reasons she'd be a welcome addition to the crew... time warp, EH?

Next part of T'Var and Johnson - Tapas for Two now available in the Apocrypha
Hey, Kylah! Here's some sticks. There are some bears over there that need poking.
LOL, well, I'm not exactly sure what you mean? What's my girl done now? Unless you mean Kjaerstad's now gonna be even less of a fan? I do feel sorry for Delaney, though.
Very interesting (and rather swift) repercussions re: the Transporter Room Incident. The way things were heading, I was kinda expecting a bit of a Caine Mutiny Court Martial deal, or some kind of legal interplay. (I love those TNG legal episodes--Measure of a Man and The Drumhead, for example. Oh and there was the one where Riker was framed for murdering that old scientist during a beam-out.)
Fingers crossed that there'll be some commendations in store as well as reprimands. Rangin certainly deserves one for bringing Palver down single-handedly.
Except for this (in game time) morning, Kylah seems to have a knack for unintentionally making things worse.
^ Oh! Well, there's still plenty of time for Kylah to screw up again. At least this time she took others down instead of herself.
Rats, CIAS is on a different timezone, poor guy didn't even have time to post before we were sent into the meeting! :)
As for the references to the weird transporter signatures in Fastolfe's house I mentioned in my post, I didn't have time to re-edit, but the game thread references are in #2812 and #2843.
Kjaerstad dated them from 3 - 6 days prior to the scan (which would've placed the transporter action from two days before the murder to five days before the murder), while Fergie refined it from 2 - 4 days (one day before the murder to four days before the murder). Even the latest possible dating eliminates Hardin as the Stealth Transporter Sneak.
I figured it makes sense to link Lt. Palver too, since we never did find out how those spore effects were lost, and of course he could've changed the lab inventory records easily to indicate that no epinephrine canisters were missing (if that was indeed how it occurred).
Ah Collins, she never could remember Delaney.
Delaney was an NPC. and yes during the mission, so was T'Var, but WES is back now. If What Exit? had decided to come back, Collins would have mentioned him as well.
Wait, so Collins is aware of meta??? And she doesn't consider them real? But she's sleeping with one of them! That's just creepy. :D
I'd argue that T'Var was (no offense to WES) actively detrimental to the investigation, what with her allegedly faking the autopsy albeit through manipulation. (But girl is a Vulcan, she should've been able to prevent that.) And she didn't really do anything else the rest of the time. Whereas Delaney may have screwed up and got Graham/Kylah stunned, he at least broke into Wilson's safe and then helped decrypt the prime piece of evidence linking Hardin to Wilson.
Besides it's clear Collins just hates Delaney. She dissed him twice in the lab station debriefing scenes prior to the murder, asking for everyone's input but leaving both meetings not once but twice before Delaney could speak. Poor guy. No wonder he was so excited to have discovered something important that he hurried to make an impression on Graham. Low self-esteem.
Okay, the truth is out. They were in grade school together and Delaney used to pull Collins' braids all the time. She has hated him ever since. :woowoo: :iiam::kitteh:
I met a woman once who was named at birth (I kid you not) Daphne Threat Medley. Now that's a band name!
When my mom was in high school, there was a family in the neighborhood named Shakespear. (No e at the end) They named their son William. He was a math and science whiz, but did poorly in English, something his teachers never let him forget.
Grahame will ask Bennet if she likes Shakespear
Sheesh after Kylah falls on her sword Vargas is going to think Graham is covering for anybody and everybody :smack
It would tee up an interesting conversation if Rangin after starts to complain about Graham to Vargas - and Vargas interrupts, saying he's aware of the issue, that Graham is too kind-hearted and nurturing and needs to take a harder line :D
I'd like to wrap up this mission in the next day or two, and then take a week off to recharge and do some work preparing for the next mission. So, last call for postings in the current game thread. Posting here in the setup thread, and Apocrypha, may of course continue. Thanks.
Only thing for me would be Rangin's psychic tests with Dr Villa, if could cover those off before wrap-up, as in whether anything is found or not.
So, Family Guy: the Quest for Stuff is running a Star Trek based event. And look, one of the first things made available were spore flowers (in front of the loan store to the right)
http://i.imgur.com/kJfHd97.jpg
She did. She recommended commendations for *all* the team
(even Delaney. Too bad he messed that up)
Soooo, when are we closing this one down. Are we just waiting for any final posts from G_U?
If you're going to start the next mission later that afternoon in game time, I'll Rangin where he is: In xenobiology, happily reading trade magazines with a coffee. :coffee:
I'm fine where Kylah is too, for now, unless something crops up elsewhere involving the various hanging threads (Ferguson's publically accusing her of being a predator, the Fastolfe affair gossip, and whatever-the-heck rumors and allegations hinted at by Walcott) that are presumably going to raise their ugly heads at some point. But I'd imagine those would wait for the next mission since they're bound to cause major headaches.
Oh and as far as her AMR goes, Kylah would've already included summaries of everything that went into the investigation files, including briefs of her interviews w/all the various suspects/guests and any evidence she found during searches and so on.
Only things not included would've been the personal stuff and the altercations with Graham about her supposedly inappropriate behavior w/male suspects and that one time he got grabby/violent when they were alone together, which btw is a thread that general_urko and I totally forgot about that we oughtta revisit.
So, no additions/supplementals necessary.
likewise, Collins is at the Security station on the Bridge
Sorry, traveling, Graham's happy to just report for duty, which I'll post.
OK, thanks, everyone. That concludes Mission #3.
In previous missions, there were five non-player characters named after characters from Heinlein's (Mission #1) and Lovecraft's (Mission #2) writings. Who caught the namedrops this time? A hundred quatloos to whoever can name all five, and what writer's work they were drawn from.
We'll take at least a week off before Mission #4 begins, but postings here and in Apocrypha are, as always, welcomed.
I'm guessing off the top the writer is Asimov, if only because you used Calvin.
I wonder who the other four are?
Yes, it was Asimov, and Calvin is one. Very good.
Thanks everyone for a very enjoyable and provocative mission that was full of surprises. What a great cast of characters with real personalities and lives of their own.
And of course thanks EH.
Yup, Thanks for running this EH and its finally...finally come to an end :D
And thanks to everyone playing as well, most enjoyable.
Hmm, a set of five eh? I going to guess all the new intake were Asimov names so that would be: Hardin, Palver, Fastolfe, Ebling and Calvin.
Close on any of them?
Ding ding ding! We have a winner!
Fastolfe - The Robots of Dawn
Calvin - I, Robot and several short stories
Hardin - Foundation
Ebling - Foundation and Empire
Palver - Second Foundation
Well done, CIAS!
3-D printers are essentially replicators (although with a dependence on right stock of raw materials) - 2nd story here.
Very cool - thanks, general!
Given that Easter is approaching this weekend, were you going to start the next mission after it?
May as well wait. Easter and Passover are concurrent this year.
Hmm. Yes, we could do that, if people prefer.
Well I'm ready to start whenever, I was just curious if everyone was available given the holiday.
I am always available. and I am not in the least bit observant. Please start the next chapter whenever you wish, EH.
Likewise I'm around.

Just watch the pre-credits teaser. LOVE IT. Will watch when I am not so sleepy
Wow there's some great stuff. Although note what they said about Renegades:
But will they be able to put aside their differences and stop trying to kill one another in time to accomplish their mission?
The Yorktown's crew has already got this down... :D
Excellent - a new mission for us to get hopelessly lost in :D
Fear not. I expect this will be a good bit more straightforward than the last one (if only for my own sanity's sake)....
the second half of my post is in green in case it needs to be deleted and posted as a separate item, based on what NPC Rawlings does.
Excellent! Sorry I'm late to the game!
Welcome back, general!
Actually, another good question would be... shouldn't Jeremi know Rawlings already? They're both in Security.
She's only been on the ship a few weeks (one mission longer than Kylah). She hasn't gotten to know all the security staff yet. And she didn't see him this last mission because she was already in Sick Bay when he joined the landing party.
That makes sense. Geeze, Vargas really should have thrown a "meet 'n' greet" party for his staff!
He did, but there was WAY too much drinking, and it's all still a blur for most of them.
Damn, the sickbay is run as efficiently as every doctor's office I've been in--waiting, waiting, waiting. Velir should use his new mental skillz to beckon T'Var over to him!
Sorry. Was waiting for WES - I PM'd her and really thought she would've checked in by now.
Last part of Rangin's raid, Rendez-Vous, is available in the Apocrypha.
Thanks!

1. Wow, Graham needs to someday learn the story of Rangin's raid: "So, let me get this straight - you tranq'd a guy and then watched him get eaten alive by a wild animal?" :D
2. EH may I offer a suggestion: [QUOTE=Elendil's Heir;246110] Depending on what we find, Dr. T'Var has said she's willing to perform a mind meld, painful, traumatizing, and humiliating internal probes using positively medieval devices in sensitive areas if it might be useful. Does that sound all right to you, Ensign?"
I swear Graham has more fantasies about Rangin than he does about Bennett. It's definite that Rangin is waaay more omnipresent in Graham's mind than Cecilia is! I think he should explore his true feelings a bit more.
The sequel would be, Oh, Wait A Minute - I Guess I Am, After All.
CIAS, enjoyed the finale of Velir's adventure! Since I know very little about Coridan stuff and who are the bad guys in this situation, I didn't realize Velir would be in danger from a fellow Coridanite. Somehow I was expecting offworlders from the Orion Syndicate. Either way, that was pretty hardcore for dear unassuming Velir. That should be quite interesting for Kylah to learn, assuming it comes up in-game (as I hope it does!).
Sorry, Graham is just not Rangin's type. It doesn't matter how much you ask EH to make it so.
Also, the Orion Syndicate may have been run by the Orions, but there were plenty of races involved. Besides, where does it mention the person is either Coridanite, or even more saliently, male?
:bravo:
Hey I liked your story, I hope my confusion doesn't indicate otherwise! :) I never considered what the victim's gender was, actually. Unless Velir eventually gets to dissect the Kellarox's stomach contents it's possible he may never know either. :)Quote:

Re: the Coridanite thing, I guess I was just going off this line:
But I realize now on second reading, it was just a general reference to the dose's strength.Quote:

And who knows what race this particular target is, or how he or she might react? Too late to worry now, Velir thinks."
But really it was just my misunderstanding of Velir's thought process, my bad. I wouldn't mind a part #4 where he does somehow learn the unfortunate dinner's identity.
Just curious - in game time, it's gotta be be close to or after 19:00 by now, no?
No, closer to 1700 hours - just an hour after Collins went off-duty.
She was in the gym for an hour before dinner - surely it's much closer to 1800 than that?
That's at least an hour in the gym alone - you have to calculate time in the locker room to change into workout gear, and then a bathing suit, and at least another 20 minutes to shower and dress in her cabin
OK, we'll say it's 1730.
I hope Graham fills Collins in on exactly why Delaney got demoted. "Well, he kinda got me and Kylah fried by Hardin, in case you're wondering." :D
As ACSO, would Collins be in on Kjaerstad's demotion as well, or would that have been a unilateral Vargas decision? It seems like Graham & Collins would be gossiping about that too, since Kjaerstad was one of their own.
A fair question; something Collins, Kylah or anyone else might want to ask about in-game.
Interesting! Well, it's probably up to Graham... although I doubt he'll do it now that Ben's around. Maybe Ben will express curiosity in the latest announcement, although I doubt it since they don't seem to do much talking about crew goings-on (at least not onscreen). If neither of them mention it, I'll figure out a way for Kylah to bring it up.
Meanwhile in the unlikely event someone wants to read Kylah's message to her Guardian (the version that's kosher for even Section 31 to read), I set it down in Apocrypha as a scene called "The Message in Her Music" rather than taking up time in the game thread.
And it's funny that CIAS and I just cross-posted. Thank goodness Velir didn't get in touch with Kylah on his own, otherwise I'd've just wasted all my composition!
I think that bit of apocrypha could have been in the game thread, but that's just my opinion.
Thanks! I wasn't sure it needed to clog up the thread since it's just character work and was so long (like, even longer than my usual posts!), especially once I added the Velir stuff as well. In the end I moved the primary important information--the nuances of Kylah's conflicted feelings toward Aldaan, which I don't think I've depicted well enough (I think I've made it seem like she straight-up hates him)--back from the Apocrypha to the regular post, since that seemed like a detail I'd want to show in-game. Does that make sense?
I do enjoy the formalities/doublespeak of the correspondence between Kylah/Aldaan.
BTW the Cobb salad thing was funny! I suspect Graham's not hugely aware of the ingredients list of salads. He seems like a meat/potatoes kinda guy.
There's a new Apocrypha story, sparked by a suggestion months ago from EH that I might write something showing Bennett & Kylah's first meeting. When I couldn't think of any ideas, CIAS came to my rescue and the result is Welcome Aboard, Ensign Kylah, which shows a few of Kylah's early encounters with the crew, including Andy Johnson, the ship's cook (who isn't on the crew list yet, but has been seen in the Chess w/T'Var thread and the Apocrypha story about Johnson/T'Var's tapas dinner). This will be a 3-part story.
Meanwhile, a kibitzing nudge to my fellow PCs: I dunno if it's just me, but I think we're supposed to be paying more attention to Singh and Cheverez in the mess hall.
It's just that EH has mentioned their activities in two posts, twice pointing out their intense conversation that's now continuing through their dinner. None of the other NPC characters are getting this much focus, so this might be a hint of some kind that EH wants us to interact with them in some way.
I could be and probably am wrong, of course. Still, maybe Graham and Collins can pop over to say hi or something, if they get a chance?
I don't know about Graham, who apparently has already left the mess hall, but when Collins is off duty, she's not likely to make uninvited small talk with her boss's boss.
Should Singh or Cheverez speak to Collins, she'll be friendly, but right now she's got other things on her mind.
I prefer to ignore clues!
Actually Graham's still there, just off in a corner.
I was going to have him drive by, actually.
So he missed the display of cute done especially for him?
You all come up with such interesting ideas!
Having some computer problems at home. You may not hear from me much this weekend.
Sorry to hear that, EH -- hope everything clears up for you. On the bright side, you can stay away from the computer and enjoy the weekend (hopefully the weather out there will be nice!).
Sorry All, RL being busy atm. Will be back in a couple of days, I hope.
Computer problems resolved, it looks like. Play on!
YAY!!!
Graham's Off-Duty Time Agenda:
- Touch Kylah
- Bromance with Rangin
- Say hi-sie wi-sie to Colli-Wollins
I'm exhausted just reading about it.
A little new Apocypha.
Poor confused Kylah. She will soon have three men in her room. It will be at that point that Collins and Cooper come back to the cabin and walk in on this comedy of errors.
Ha, yeah, I... was not expecting so much company. One at a time, sure, but simultaneous? Yipe.
Graham doesn't seem to approve of any man in Kylah's orbit. :)
This scene feels like it was written by the Marx Brothers.
nice touch, that reintroduction bit. Very cyclical.
I love the fact that Collins & Ben are wandering around like high school kids looking for a place to make out...
Yeah, well, by the time I thought of returning to Collins' cabin, Johnson and Graham were already gone, so there'd be no reason for her to make inaccurate assumptions.
I was thinking about that. Perhaps the ship should have a half-dozen reservable cabins for assignations...? Starfleet would be a bit more open/mature about that than the U.S. Navy today, for instance.
Well, technically Kylah's in her bathrobe with Johnson in the hall and Velir in the room. So there's still time for eyebrow-lifting, if any eyebrow-lifting is desired. :D
Hey everyone. It's choie, but I'm using a 2nd account to introduce a new PC on reserve. Not as a Kylah substitute, but an addition to add more options -- I figure realistically Kylah wouldn't go on every mission so it might be fun to have a 2nd option. (In fact, with WES/Hayes, CIAS/Johnson, and anyrose/Dobson, we could pretty much have an alternate crew line-up for one of our later rounds! :D)
This is the Sidonian NPC who's been listed on the crew for ages, but who's only appeared once (well, now twice) without much description. This made her a perfect NPC into whom EH very generously allowed me to imbue new life as a PC, with help in character creation from both EH and others who shall remain nameless. Oh what the heck, 'twas CIAS.
Sidonia, as I learned from EH, was his own creation. No background, no info. A juicy blank slate! But now... drumroll please... I introduce you to the "official" page for Sidonia! (No, not really official. I made a plain HTML page using the Memory Alpha layout and mimicked their style, created some images, and faked a "Memory Theta" parody page. Notice there's only one page in the wiki! But the definition links all go to legit Memory Alpha pages.)
Am I crazy to have gone into such detail with this? Yes. Is it news that I'm crazy? Of course not. I started with two ideas: Sidonia sounded like the Lebanon city of Sidon, so it was a desert planet, and thus a semi-reptilian humanoid made sense. I also wanted a more mature character who's 180 degrees from Kylah--still some depth but waaay less angsty. And third, I imagined her being played by Gina Torres. Those were my starting points.
Since I couldn't really use Gina Torres, I found a model who looked a bit like her or at least reminded me of La Torres, added scales, and voila: Lt. Ve'ne'ko'nia'onn, or Lt. Nia Onn as she's known in Starfleet. EH will be putting up her profile soon I believe.
Thanks very much Elendil's Heir for letting me play doubles, and to both EH and CIAS for helping me flesh out Sidonia and Nia herself!
http://www.falling-sky.com/strpg/nia_onn.jpg
Very well done, but you didn't have to create a separate account to do that.
Thanks! But dang, girl, are you worried about the forum running out of space or something? First I didn't have to start a new thread in the Apocrypha, now I didn't have to create a new account... EH said it was fine, and I think it'll make it easier to keep things separate between Kylah and Nia. This way people will see the choie icon and know it's a Kylah post, and they'll see Nia's face and think, well, Nia. (In future, if she ever goes on a mission, it'll be a cinch for me to organize her posts, too, since they'll be under one account instead of mushed in together with the Kylah stuff.)
Yeah! What she said!
::sheepishly returns to her little world and contemplates a separate account for playing Dobson::
Thanks, SidonianGal (aka choie). Well done. The character profile is now in post 6 here: http://www.mellophant.com/forums/sho...acter-profiles. Her name was alphabetically next after Kylah's, so it fit right in there.
Thanks for the greeting of my doppelganger, and for the profile placement, EH! I forgot she'd be right after Kylah. Funny, that!
Also, I love Johnson, he's a keeper. And a surprising yet completely in character mention of Ferguson... I was wondering if that little hissy fit ol' Ferg threw in the rec room had spread. Johnson's the ideal person to have heard the scuttlebutt, too.
Thanks. I'll fix it.
A Trekker astronaut in orbit: http://www.space.com/29161-astronaut...orm-space.html
Just in case you were wondering why the ship had a compliment of cooks, the ships were fitted with Food synthesizers until the end of the century to supplement what the ship's cooks provided. They didn't really have replicators.
http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Food_synthesizer
This is, of course, EH dependent :D
There's nothing in ST canon to say that replicators weren't introduced aboard Constitution-class starships soon after ST:TOS. So for our game, they have been. It only makes sense to have some cooks aboard, too, for special occasions, for those who can't or won't eat replicated food, in case of a breakdown of the still-early-model replicators, etc.
Two or three more posts apiece, let's say, and I'll fast-forward to tomorrow morning and the ship's arrival at Anubis.
Are the large windows in the observation lounges still called portholes? I googled and couldn't find an appropriate term.
"Viewport" is the usual term: http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Viewport
Thank you.
Now it's my turn to ask a basic question: are the lounges where people can go to get drinks? And which one is the farthest from wherever Collins and Cooper are? Because while I doubt Nia would bat an eye, her author would rather not go anywhere near that particular tableau. :) Is the one on Deck 20 safe?
No worries. Cooper closed and locked the door. ;)
Crew lounges are bigger and usually more crowded than observation lounges, and yes, you can get drinks of all kinds there (Starfleet isn't "dry" like the U.S. Navy, fortunately). The OLs on the dorsal connection between the two main hulls are quite small, by comparison. The lounge on Deck 20 would be fine for Nia and any guest(s).
ETA: Just read anyrose's latest post. Boy howdy! This ain't your grandmother's Star Trek....
And you haven't seen Kylah's latest scene yet. I think Jeff Goldblum's line from The Big Chill is pertinent again...
Meanwhile, Graham's less-than-enthusiastic reaction at the lounge is hilarious. Was his dinner laced with saltpeter?
Part 2 of "Welcome Aboard, Ensign Kylah is ready for, hopefully, your enjoyment. CIAS and I wanted to get it up* before the next couple of Velir/Kylah scenes, for reasons that will eventually be made clear.
And I humbly beg your patience for those scenes, btw. This is kind of an important plot/character issue and due to timezone differences we needed to coordinate. Should hopefully be ready later this evening. Sorry everyone!
* Damn it, why is everything now sounding like a double entendre? Especially after this section of the story... :D
EH, please let me know when it's roughly 2100 game time. Collins needs to say goodnight to Cooper, but she's not going to just leave him asleep after he's all appreciatived-out.
Go ahead and do it now, thanks.
Kudos EH for the nice stretch of time for crew--uh, "interaction"...
And kudos all for great posts!
And to you as well
Agreed, thank you very much for your patience and giving us the luxury of all that offtopic stuff, EH! It was fun to read everyone's contribution and to collaborate with y'all too.
Ah, but only one...
Spoiler (mouseover to read):
heart!
What did you think I was going to say?
Of course. Remember Rule 4: "This is a role-playing game, and I encourage you to write about anything which gives further meaning and depth to your character, both on- and off-duty."
The planet's namesake: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anubis
The ore carrier's owners: http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Dytallix_Mining_Company
Ardule was also a planet mentioned in the ST:VGR-era USS Monitor RPG which I used to run and in which WES and general_urko were players. I like including little crossover references like that now and then.
A little bit of apocrypha.
Hey if it's drama you're looking for, Nia can always bitchslap Bennett and start a cat fight (or in her case, a lizard fight). Of course Bennett wouldn't stand a chance. One swipe and that dainty little twiglet would break apart. She probably has avian bone syndrome like whatshername from 30 Rock.
...Except Nia would have to be the jealous type to do that, and she so isn't. :)
There is a rather convenient--suspiciously so--configuration on the Bridge right now! Hmm, what is our GM up to?
Suddenly, Kylah and Rangin disappear from the Bridge and reappear in a well appointed hotel suite. Q's head appears from one of the walls. "Oh, will you two get over yourselves and just get it on already? For the love of Picard!"
Ha! I wasn't actually talking about Nia and Bennett, but rather the main PCs all being on the Bridge at once, even Rangin who's never been on the Bridge before and both Security officers.
Besides, I definitely didn't suggest Nia as a helm officer with any thought about Bennett's job, because... well, among multiple other reasons, at the time I never even knew she was a navigator. I always looked on her as a glorified Julie Summers (was that her name? Lauren Tewes's character from The Loveboat?).
Ouch. That hurts.
In any event, she's been a navigator from the earliest posts of the first mission, has appeared in several scenes in that capacity, and is listed as such on the crew roster.
Oh I'm sure she has! Remember, from my POV, there have been few Bridge-centric scenes since I've been playing the game--the missions I've participated in have all been off-ship--and when there are Bridge scenes, the folks sitting at Helm/Nav rarely say much. Vargas and Singh understandably get the bulk of the dialogue/action, as one would expect.
Meanwhile, when we're off on a mission, the ship's been either incommunicado or out of range (Mission #2) or our contacts were almost entirely the captain and first officer and a teeny bit of Thalen/Villa (Mission #3). I don't look at the crew list all that often and even then I just sorta blip past her name since if I am on that page, usually I'm just there to refresh my memory of the layout of the ship, or to identify a character who's been newly introduced (like the various security folks we met down on OCIII).
Plus, with the greatest respect to a certain PC's fictional amour, Bennett's just... not hugely distinctive except as the gorgeous but somewhat lackluster (personality-wise) object of Graham's affections.* Way back in 2012 or so, she did have some scenes w/T'Var saying that she still cares about her abusive boyfriend (who's not on the crew list, interestingly--his name's Matthew but there's no one by that name there), but she's never mentioned him since, nor have we ever seen them together.
So, overall, it hasn't been her Navigation career that's been noticeable about her, not nearly as much as her role as New Crew Liaison Officer--after all, she's the only NCLO we've got, whereas there are a few other Navigators. And it's as the NCLO job that's highlighted, since it lets her troll for fresh meat interact with the new PCs.
So, there it is. Were it not for Graham's romantic intentions, she's kinda off my radar. And I always hoped he'd get paired up with Collins, anyway! At least before they started calling each other sis/bro, which makes shipping them a tiny bit ickier. :D
* And to be fair, we haven't seen her enough to learn more about her personality or have it develop past light banter. I imagine that'll change soon enough.
Oh, mee-owww ^2
:D
Collins could not do her job effectively if she was enamoured of a fellow security officer. She'd either be too distracted, or too busy making sure he was safe, possibly at the expense of others in her mission. (Yeah, yeah, I know)
Everyone's going on shore leave with only a skeleton crew left behind...what could possibly go wrong?
Well, one-third of the crew is hardly a "skeleton crew." But you never know...!
Suddenly it strikes me that it'd be ironic if the mission/crisis/whatever ended up occurring up on the ship while the PCs were frolicking down below on the planet!
Of course then we could have that Hayes, Johnson, Dobson and Nia adventure everyone's dying to see. :D
Heh. Yes, I'll avoid the easy snarky response. But she could just as easily end up on a mission with Cooper, too; then what would happen? Cooper's less able than Graham to handle a dangerous situation. Plus he's an NPC and thus much more likely to croak at a moment's notice!
Duplicate post
New PCs are all the rage this year. It is rather gauche to have only one. :) Or maybe Graham could accidentally be left behind, or get beamed up at the last minute.
(I don't really think we'll be left out of the mission, EH, before you bonk me on the head.)
P.S. You can delete those duplicate posts entirely. Click "Edit," then look down at the buttons to find the "delete" button. Click that, confirm that yes, you want to delete the sucker, and then... poof! It's gone.
EH is right about the TOS crew not changing before shore leave, but the TNG crew do from time to time, as do members of the current day military
Say "hello" to Crewman Felice Dobson, Security Specialist
:D Welcome aboard, Dobson!
I'll probably forget to swap out accounts when posting as Dobson, but there she is.
Very cool. Wow, they look like sisters! Impressed by the stolid Dobson's fancy hair piece. Clearly she's got a secret girly side to her.
And due to a funny optical illusion with the all-black leggings/boots and the way she's standing, it kinda looks like Collins is either a) footless, b) has horse's hooves instead of feet, or c) is trapped in a few inches of cement. Like she was trying to make an impression for her Hollywood Walk of Fame star and sunk inside by mistake.
It could be a lot worse: http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Van_Mayter
Ugh yes, I remember that episode very clearly, and that death in particular!
Just a word of caution on additional player characters....
I don't encourage everyone to get them. I let choie develop a new one, Lt. Onn, at her particular request, but did not intend or expect for everyone else to then get one. Some players such as WES have filled in for other departed players in playing already-established characters (as with Dr. Brownlock) in addition to their own in the short term. Some such as anyrose have played previous NPCs (like Dobson) when their own PCs were incapacitated. Unfortunately, I don't have the time or energy to run a game for ten-plus PCs. I encourage you, instead, to focus on the PCs you already have. If you want to kill off or have your current PC transferred and develop a new PC, please PM me, and we'll discuss it. Thanks.
Not to mention cias and Chef Johnson
Ship's Cook Johnson (don't call him Chef, he's second in command of the galleys and the real Ship's Chef will be pissed) is purely a cameo background character to appear in stories, add a little spice to things and, above all, play chess with T'Var.
He's one of those below deck staff that never really gets a mention unless the script demands it, but is probably played by a Hollywood Actor* slumming it for the kicks of appearing in the show. :D
He's only going to get involved in things if EH requests it, or if I think it would be hilarious (but still with EH's permission).
* First person to say Steven Seagal will find bad things happening to their accounts.
Hey, shipboard cooks and chefs can do all sorts of interesting things!: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Under_Siege
Okay then, that's how Dobson shall be relegated as well. Only when called for.
If you have no problems with Johnson being a cook as well as having a hidden Spec Ops background, I can live with that. :D
You can always write stories about Dobson if you get bored. Tell us why she is so taciturn and stoic.
A universal translator:
On Monday, Harry Shum, the Microsoft executive vice president who oversees the research operation, was bursting with pride while demonstrating Skype Translator, a new product that incorporates years of work by researchers to convert voice conversations from one language to another in real time.

Mr. Shum gamely agreed to conduct a portion of an interview using Skype Translator. Mr. Shum sat in his office, and I sat in a conference room down the hall looking at Mr. Shum’s face on a computer screen. I asked questions in English, and Mr. Shum responded in Mandarin, his native tongue. He answered a question in Mandarin about the impact he says Skype Translator can have, and the software spit out an English transcript and synthesized recording seconds later.
The software made mistakes — Skype transcribed his name as “Hairy” — but it got the point across. “Today we have a lot of obstacles of communication,” Mr. Shum said, according to the Skype translation. “Because we speak a different language, you speak English, I speak Chinese, if we are not able to understand the two sides, the world would have a lot of problems.”

Poor Velir, he never gets a chance to react to anything Kylah says, she just keeps moving forward leaving him mute. If he doesn't break up with her over sexually accosting him, he might do it for never letting him get a word in edgewise!
