Hope everything is alright anyrose, enjoy your break and come back refreshed.
Hey anyrose, I'm sorry to hear that! Hopefully it's just a nice busy summer that's keeping you away and necessitates the break. Or is it the difficulty in playing Dobson--who seems like a fine character but is so low on the totem pole that she can't really initiate actions on her own? If so, I wonder if you might consider temporarily taking over T'Var instead? T'Var's got the security background you like as well as being drama-free and, best of all, is an integral part of the mission.
Otherwise I hope everything's okay and eventually you (and Collins) can come back reinvigorated.
Likewise anyrose, hope all is well and you come back when you're ready. Don't underestimate your writing abilities, some of your Collins posts have been truly awesome!
I'm about to head out of town myself. Let's take a break until this Sun. July 20.
Aw man, you people and your lives where you can detach yourselves from your computers! What the heck is that about? I feel like I'll be stuck in NYC for the rest of my life. Hope you're off to enjoy yourself, EH.
Well, Rangin and Kylah were going to have A Talk, so since we're not going to be bothering anyone can we still post?
What 'talk'? Seems more like Rangin wants shower sex with Kylah.
London is the food capitol of the world, with so many different styles and places to go and eat from. I've heard good things about Amaya, not to mention it has Michelin stars as well, so savour it while you can. Then again, you're eating in Knightsbridge, so be glad it went on expenses.
Hope you enjoyed the weather as well, it's been gorgeous in London over the past few weeks or so.
I wasn't gonna say nothin'. :) Actually I would've assumed Paris, but since I'm no Francophile I'll be happy with either London or NYC. (Although honestly I think it's Tokyo or at least Japan that has the most Michelin star restaurants--at least, I heard that a few years ago possibly on one of the Gordon Ramsay 'Greatest Restaurant' specials, so it might not be true any longer.)
Back again. Had a good trip - a reunion of my mom's extended family, in a New Jersey beach town.
Yay, welcome back, EH!
And g_u, nice job on the latest Apocrypha scene about Graham. That's a pretty vivid sight--a bleeding, soaking wet guy with soggy roses. Lucky Jane! Luckier than she deserves, if you ask me. She seems like a cold fish. Is this chick ever nice, or is it just her being relentlessly beautiful and smart and unattainable that Graham gets off on? No wonder Lizzie's such a pill: neglectful dad, icy mom.
Pick your filthy retort:
a) Maybe the water was cold?
b) Wait until he sees Kylah!
b) Probably because he knew Graham was right outside ready to "make use of it"
(I apologize to everyone. I'm a bit overtired and silly.)
anyrose, CIAS, someday I promise (most likely after winning a major lottery or taking out a second mortgage) to systematically put NYC and London to the test to determine who truly deserves to be the food capital of the world...
choie thanks for the trenchant comments as always...I want Jane to come across as very different from Graham, but for his interpretation of that as being "better" to be a far from an obvious conclusion to others
Didn't Dr T'var take Lt. Collins room and Kylah and Dobson share a room last night??
Oh crap. Of course you're right. I don't know what I was thinking. Can you stealth edit that part out of my post? If nothing else, in return for Kylah's plan on gelding Graham for insulting Velir?
I fixed the references to Dobson and T'Var. Let me know if what I wrote suits you, choie.
Some new posts in the ST Apocrypha thread: http://www.mellophant.com/forums/sho...-RPG-Apocrypha
Nice to see Collins back, anyrose
Also, geez, Graham and Vargas should get together after Security staff meetings to reminisce about old times and personal relationships, now that would be uplifting... :o
OK, I doubt this will offend anyone's religious sensibilities - apologies in advance if it does. But since this references both quatloos and GodKlingon I have to share the link:
No Salvation on Mars (also it is hilarious...)
Enjoyed the latest installments, guys. Boy, this ship's crew sure has some bad luck when it comes to romance/sex!
And thanks very much, EH--that's perfect!
Edited to add: yes, that is a great piece, general_urko!
Oh, that poor Enceladian!
Rangin's backstory...hm, great stuff. Tees up something interesting that might happen between him & Graham whether vigilante-ism is ever necessary, warranted, morally acceptable, feasible or smart... I suspect they will both disagree and agree in interesting ways...
re: Snippet's from Collins' life - you have to stop dissing you writing abilities anyrose, short, sweet, poignant, accretive to a bigger story!
Quite so. I'm digging just about everything I read in that thread.
Although I could think of no excuse for Kylah for not seeing that message from Wilson, I herewith absolve myself of this egregious oversight. When I originally had Kylah look at all three messages--the two from Mrs. Hsu and the 23:03 message--our gamemaster only gave me the Hsu messages. Harumph!
I admit I should've followed up on it, but I suppose I was so surprised by my wild guess about Mrs. H. and Wilson being proven correct I lost my head.
(And very clever of you, EH, to have so many "H" names for clues! I'm reminded of Murder on the Orient Express and the initial on the handkerchief.)
Thank you, but as it happens, it just worked out that way. I didn't plan it.
Never dismiss the possibility of the serendipitous subconscious, EH! Countless times I've written some tiny detail into my online serial that, years later, turned out to be incredibly useful, indeed prescient, when it came time to elaborate on a character's motive in an entirely different plot.
In this case I never noticed the multiple "H" names myself, except for always getting Hardin and Halsey confused whenever I've had to write one of them into a post. When I started that latest post, I originally had Kylah just rattle off those two, and then I remembered, "oh yeah, and the Hwuen. Oh! And the Hsus... both of them! Heck it could just stand for 'Hotel.' Geeze this is great, how did I not spot this before?!" I don't remember if we know Fastolfe's first name, but if not, you've gotta make it "Herbie." (Not just for the H but also because it'd be funny.)
I had a thought - what if someone who writes well (choie or CiaS) turns our adventures into fan fiction and spread them around the web?
eta - mind you, only about half my ideas are actually good ones
:D That's kind of you! I know it's a joke but it is a fun idea. The main problem would be that we'd have to remove/change so much of the multiple perspective stuff. It's actually difficult to read stories that switch POV more than once a scene, much less constantly. Editors call inconsistent POV "head-hopping." I even sometimes find it difficult to read when two of us post a long mutual scene--but that's because I always have my editor's hat on, and I know I'd mark that material up as head-hopping if one of my clients were to submit it to me.
Oh, it'll need some serious rewriting. But I think it'd go viral fairly quickly.
Too many vectors for true viral infection, I fear -- Trek fanfic's gotta be a glut on the market. :D But it would be cool.
Damn, what's with this woman? To hell with her grief, we have a mission here!
But seriously, thanks for the post references re: the office search, EH! Unless I misread the sequence of events, it does seem that no one logged in to Wilson's work computer, right? It was scanned for fingerprints/DNA, and Graham found some locked datapads (which Kylah just referenced in her talk to Thalen), but I didn't notice an actual login attempt or data search. Is that what everyone else gets?
I believe that is correct.
I didn't think Rangin had done much in Wilson's office. Looks like there is plenty still to do.
enjoy this video. There are scenes from the spores episode in it.
Thanks. The things one can find on YouTube...!
That's great! Damn, people are so creative. I remember watching a version of some Christmas carol using ST:TNG at some point, don't remember when or what the song was.
I'd probably appreciate it more if I knew this "Call Me Maybe" song, though. The words are so clipped that I can't really distinguish the lyrics enough to make sense out of it (except for the chorus).
Here ya go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWNaR-rxAic
Kirk v. the Gorn - place your bets!: http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/23...c50f6794fc.jpg
Wow! As much as Kylah dislikes Collins, I don't think even she suspects the gal of murder! :devil:Quote:
Rangin smiles at the pair of them. "Doctors, given the nature of Mr Wilson's injuries, which of the two, Palver or Collins, would you say would have been more likely to have assaulted him? Perhaps reacted in self defence or after due provocation."
A CNN profile of Nichelle Nichols - I hadn't known she sang with Duke Ellington: http://www.cnn.com/2014/08/04/showbi...html?hpt=hp_c3
Wow, neither did I! That's awesome. Her history is so inspiring.
Reading the latest from Rangin, I'm surprised he prefers Collins to Graham as a leader--although he did manage to get Collins to rely on him for advice, so I guess he's inclined to prefer someone who listened to him.
(Also, the passive aggressive snark in our characters' interior monologues is hilarious.)
I'd been meaning to comment on what we've (well what Kylah has learned in game, but we've seen) about Rangin's backstory - haven't thought it through yet but it struck me as teeing up further escalation of Rangin perceiving Graham as a thug and Graham perceiving Rangin as a naive idealist until (well, hopefully) they have some sort of rapprochement...
Until then, indeed, Graham is not inclined to rely on Rangin for advice for while he thinks he's a very smart guy, he also thinks his head is in hippy dippy land...
@main thread 2708
Geez why doesn't Kylah conference in Rangin so he can pile on about what an asshole he is.
Yeah yeah I know it's the plan but sheesh, the poor guy does have feelings besides guilt and rage
Aw. Well, he doesn't know what she's saying, so that's fortunate. You know she has to make things sound dire or Fastolfe will just take his chances with Graham. Graham's the one who suggested that she claim he's too "stupid and macho" and to try to get Fastolfe's cooperation. So, yeah, she's playing up Graham's singlemindedness and violence. (And really, she's also dissing the rest of her team, including her precious Rangin, as well as Starfleet!)
(Don't forget that before she left, she was about to express concern for him, but didn't want to embarrass him in front of others. And that's despite the fact that the last time she felt sorry for Graham and tried to treat him like a guy she cared about, he got all ragey, grabbed her, lifted her bodily off the floor and pushed her over to the wall!)
And whilst I'm here, I want to humbly remind the GM of Kylah's impressive 11 Charisma. She's gotta roll a natural 20 at some point. The die has been stuck on "1" for awfully long, considering such a high CHA.
Just sayin'. :D
A fair point, and duly noted. But she did have good luck with the old French guy, and, ahem, Jan (in terms of her high charisma having a not-too-surprising result).
I am cracking. up. I did ask for that CHA to be considered! Well played, EH.
Another great idea - thanks! Heheheheh.
Oh dear! Well, I'm gonna be shutting up. I'm curious to see at what point Graham makes the call to beam in, unless he decides to saunter instead, in which case, yipe.
I suddenly feel like Kylah's the cat with the white stripe who keeps attracting a bunch of Pepe le Pews, from Jan to Fastolfe. (What's his first name, do we know? I really want it to be Poindexter or something totally banal.)
Kylah needs to learn some really crude habits, like belching or an annoying laugh. That's keep ol' Pepe at bay.
Lord Fastolfe's first name is Ugren, as mentioned in post 1493. (Not that anyone but me is anal-retentive enough to write it down).
Ah thanks, EH. I was too lazy to check. Ugren?! That is definitely less glamorous than he thinks he deserves, so I enjoy it. Okay, now I'm trying to work out if this is an anagram for something. Hmm, probably not. If it only had an extra g it'd work for 'grunge.'
anyrose she'd probably just start attracting the even bigger weirdos who are into that sort of thing!
Wow, so that's what Kylah really thinks of Rangin. A skunk. :(
Graham would have a field day with that one.
Damn, Fastolfe sure got unbewitched mighty quickly! I've never seen so many fractious men before.
Also, he's rushing downstairs? I'm clearly confused about the layout of this house.
Well, it's not yellow...
Well, I'll say this for whoever did it, they were thorough. :(
And yet the killer(s) made mistakes and left clues, already known to the Yorktown landing party in the course of its investigation, that will probably lead to arrest.
Yo!
What do you mean 'we have been assuming,' Mr. Rangin? :) Back in #2658...
Just wanted to make sure Kylah's butt was covered. (Which ain't easy in these short uniforms!)
Seriously, as often is the case, K/R are on the same wavelength.<3
You're doing well. The solution is almost within your grasp, I think.
Dang I hope so! You probably know where Kylah's thinking is going, although I'm not sure she has the right combo of suspects in mind.
EH, I think I've lost track of Hotchkiss. Is he still in the room with Kylah/Graham/Crewman 'Tight-Lips' Dobson/Adjetey/Falstofe? I can't think of a natural way for Kylah not to know he's there considering she might be two feet away from him.
I gave up trying to work out who it was ages ago, but then I'm useless at detective stories anyway.
Look, a red herring, the red herring did it... :fail:
Oh.
Holy.
Crap.
I think I just had a lightbulb moment. Literally just sitting here thinking about the "H" names, and the similar stuff we've seen notated by Wilson and how to interpret it, and bam, I was struck by a realization that what I've been assuming it meant--what appeared to be the most obvious translation--is quite likely something entirely different. Something a character has already considered but not very seriously.
A little nugget I thought was just wishful thinking on my part suddenly seems a lot more possible.
If so... EH you cunning bastard.
Well, I try....
CIAS: Yes, Hotchkiss, having just been disarmed, would still be there with his boss and Miss Adjetey.
LOL, do you know, I never even put together that we both have cat avatars. Kylah/Rangin were clearly destined for each other. (Also, my screenname is in honor of my dearly missed cat, Choie. She was a tuxedo cat like my avatar.)
Aw! That's sweet. I haven't yet read the Fiona story, but I'm willing to bet that because Kylah is having absolutely no luck with anyone (as is her writer), there is a 99.9999999999% probability that EH is going to have Hotchkiss say "bite me, Starfleet bitch" (or the equivalent) and Kylah will have to talk to him in front of the lawyer and Hotchkiss's boss. Which, y'know, is why she wanted to get him out of the room. (That's understandable, right? She doesn't want to ask him questions in front of pain-in-the-ass Adjetey and the guy who pays his salary. And she'd probably just go into the living room or wherever no other WR&R or Fastolfe staffers are congregating. Starfleet folks would be fine. Plus remember, Graham said he'd follow her shortly, so she's not expecting to be alone with him anyway.)
But as I said, I've been rolling 1s for countless rounds here (I don't count Fastolfe being all lovey-dovey good luck!), and I'm reeeally sure this ain't gonna be where Kylah gets a break and I finally roll a natural 20.
Which is fine. Because... I'm willing to wait on that 20 for when I test out my sudden brainstorm.
Damn! You zigged when I was certain you were gonna zag! Now I'm worried I've used up Kylah's rather low LUCK score.
I always try to keep ya guessin'!
At what point do Steven Hill and Sam Waterston wander in and ask how the case is going?
:bravo: Since I associate Graham more of a mix of Briscoe (cynical) and Greavey (judgy but paternal guy from season 1!) I'm gonna assume it'd be Michael Moriarty rather than Waterston. :) I think we're at about the :20 minute mark of an hour episode, assuming the arrest would come at the half-hour point. OTOH, since we're likely not going to get any courtroom scenes, this may be like my favorite L&O episode, s04's Mayhem (warning, spoilers!), which was all about Mike and Lennie's incredibly long and complex day rather than being split in half as usual. In which case, we're more at :45. Just my guess assuming EH is right, and assuming I'm on the right track with where I think this is heading.
I have to get Kylah to the place where she has the same realization I did above, unless someone else gets there first. It's not the full answer but it's a mighty big nugget.
On day...in the future...maybe. :D
Wait, crap, did Rangin not already tell us about the H/S file? I've been assuming he already did. Hmm. Well, I guess Kylah's questions about the various guests to Hotchkiss could read either way since there were some non-H and non-S names in there. (She already knew about the H thing, so that's not an inconsistency. Still, her focusing on Stimmons is a bit off. Maybe we can assume she was interested because he's a personal assistant yet none of them have seen/met the guy yet?)
Well maybe when Rangin's less pedantic :p:LOL:
Looks like we might find out what the mysterious "H" file is going to be shortly.
Sorry - was on the road and had no Internet access for the better part of the past two days.
Tsk tsk tsk. Man, these NPCs aren't paying close attention. And that's why they'll never graduate to PCs.
According to the post in which the case was first opened (bolding mine, natch):
So, from a case of five knives:
1 knife still in the case, with four missing slots
1 knife was confiscated & locked in the vault
1 knife was recovered from the scene of the crime
That leaves two knives unaccounted for, nu?
Clearly your memory is better than Peters's!
Here's a Mount Vernon short documentary about the Yorktown Campaign of 1781 (clearly inspired by the opening credits of Game of Thrones): http://www.mountvernon.org/animated-...dde0-231182821
Ssshhhh, its a clue, dontcha' know.
Wow, I know GoT fans are freakishly obsessive but I wouldn't have thought they'd accuse the war of independence of being inspired by the show!
...Oh wait, you meant the documentary was influenced. Got it. :) Actually for some reason this video refuses to play in my browser. It keeps getting stuck and I just hear the eerie music while waiting for some foggy scenery to show up. I do get the "Now or Never" animation (although only the beginning). Frustrating!
I've been trying to figure out if it's a clue that these knives were supposed to be sold in sets of three, but Fastolfe got his hands on a special five-knife version. Maybe Fastolfe's a bit of a precog. It's like he knew he'd lose two of 'em!
Agatha told him....
The tension between Kylah and Graham can mean only one thing. One day, they will have a shouting match that will end in a passionate embrace. It's sitcom gold!
Oh, what? We're not writing a sitcom?
Oh god, that's hilarious. And would make the most awkward triangle ever. I don't know who'd be more icked out by this Freudian mess of a scenario.
Fifty quatloos on Kylah herself!
I love the way Officer Peters slip has sent Rangin off in completely the wrong direction. :D
At least...I think he has...
I know. :) At this point I don't know whose slip is intentional or a red herring or just a (perish the thought!) continuity hiccup!
As far as who'd be icked out most, it's hard to tell. I can only imagine the guilt issues Graham would have regarding seeing his daughter-figure as a romantic object, while he sees Rangin as a eunuch and/or a pacifist (whichever is worse in his eyes) and Kylah's clearly some kind of attention-hungry wannabe Patriotic whore (star of the film Between Duty and Pleasure, the Ensign Kylah Story: I Seduced An Entire Starbase For My Planet!). Meanwhile, Rangin would likely be disgusted if he thought Kylah were attracted to ape-like goon Graham as a possibility.
Rangin's a xenobioologist - he would be taking notes on the mating rituals and get a paper out of it.
OH damn, that's cold. :D
I threw that in more for your benefit than for Rangin's. :D I suspect he barely heard her--the only passion that can be inflamed within Rangin right now is the one he currently has for Peters, who is probably gonna turn out to be the dark horse murderer and head of the entire conspiracy.
Main thread 2818...
Now is when Graham needs to ask Kylah's location so she can answer "in the bedroom with Fastolfe...." :D
Everyone needs a hobby.
Billed as the greatest Star Trek selfie ever taken, and it is pretty good...
http://www.theverge.com/2014/8/28/60...fie-ever-taken
I think the guy in the back is just a con goer photobombing
EH, did you notice Kylah asking Lt. Kjwhatever for someone to take over watching Fastolfe's boudoir? Just wanted to make sure that bit wasn't lost. Kylah can't leave until someone's there to take her place.
As am aside, boy, I cannot believe it's only 10am. And the cook was already beginning lunch preparations! What the heck are they having, roast Targ on a spit?
Heh. Yeah, don't piss her off or she'll spoil a centuries-old book for you! That's the sort of vicious behavior worthy of Mirror-Universe Kira (the Intendant).
(A mirror universe mission would be hilarious!)
Anyway both she and her player have grown fed up with defending and trying to get through to Fastolfe. I doubt any of you have played the PC game S.T.A.L.K.E.R., but there are different factions of NPCs in that game, and if you make one mistake in dealing with them (e.g. crossed into their territory without permission, accidentally shot one of their fellow faction members even when no one else witnessed it), they will never change their mind--the next time anyone in that faction sees you, you're an enemy target for the rest of the game.
That's what Fastolfe feels like. He was all over her like ugly on a Nausicaan until Kylah made the disastrous mistake of telling the guy--who was implying her arrival at the house alone could lead to 'only one outcome' (ew)--that she's not without defenses. Now no matter what she says or does, he will not listen to reason. At this point I think if Kylah literally had tried to, uh, do what Graham's brain was accusing her of , Fastolfe would probably still act all pissy and self-righteous (in other words, act like no other male rock star ever!).
So yeah, damn it, at this point Kylah's ready to play hardball. Why, next she might even tell him Citizen Kane was a ghost all the time and is actually the father of the woman from The Crying Game!
Mmmm, mirror universe Kira...
Yeah she was pretty awesome. I have a feeling the mirror universe version of Kylah would find the Intendant's wardrobe a bit prissy, considering the good version of Elasian royalty considers this perfectly normal:
http://media.tumblr.com/7cb47602c65d...z8l1r582r6.jpg
:bravo: OMG, dying here for that last question. A thousand points to T'Var for perfect comic timing!Quote:
Dr. T'Var says, "It is a topical antifungal, a very powerful one, as I recall. It is part of the standard treatment for Ithacan epidermal fungus, commonly known as the 'Ithaca Itch.'" She pauses. "Do you require a prescription, Ensign?"
I assume Kylah found nothing of use while snooping around the bedroom/cabinet/dressers, etc., right?
What's a Trek episode without some Treknobabble. :madsci:
New apocrypha:
http://www.mellophant.com/forums/sho...l=1#post239987
Hmm. Gastolfe... Fastolfe?
Well now we know why Graham's so obsessed with lesbians. Even they can't resist the awesome magnetism of Graham's masculinity.
Just wanted to say it's my 50th birthday. Thank you all for playing the game with me.
Happy birthday! Thanks for being a killer GM.
Eh, that was not meant to suggest killing any characters...
Congrats EH, Many Happy Returns.
Many thanks! It's been a good day. Not even the (unsolicited) arrival of an AARP card in the mail late last week has cast a pall over it.
Happy birthday, EH! My sister got one of those cards too, and it... well, she didn't take it as well as you have! :) But there are some good discounts. Many thanks for all you do as a GM and a cruel Botticelli questioner.
Thanks, all! It was a good day, and now I'm happily setting forth on my next half-century (or so)....
Graham + Kylah + video cameras
Ooooh! I hope Graham lies and says Collins was watching. I want to see Kylah's reaction
What, miss a chance to dump Rangin in it, make him out to be ones of the boys, completely ruin Kylah's opinion of him....
....he'd never do that. :fail:
Quite a potential powder keg we have here. If Graham reveals that Rangin was there (and given Kylah's accusations there's no reason he shouldn't), Kylah could either think well of Rangin (who, after all, was tactful and didn't reveal that he'd seen this) or start worrying about Rangin's motives, considering he only revealed his feelings about her after seeing her slobber all over another guy.
It's all side dishes compared to the main murder event, but I'm hoping this will go in a certain direction and get Kylah on track to investigate something she's been considering for a while but has forgotten about. So don't worry, EH, it may seem like role-playing fluff but this may head somewhere, missionwise.
No worries. This is your game; I just try to keep things perking along.
Just wait until Rangin mentions Graham's line about Kylah's curfew when he gets asked about it. :D
Wait, Rangin & T'VAr are scanning houses for transporter signatures?
Shouldn't they be standing around shouting at each other???
I know, right? What kind of slackers are they?
Two scientists...doing science...I think not. :madsci:
What happens afterwards, well who can say.
Well it's a very good find, and makes me wonder why we didn't notice those transporter traces earlier! I guess without the search warrant it wasn't possible to get into their houses, but nevertheless, there was a lot of scanning the night of the murder in that courtyard. Dang!
One question I have about this, though:
Is he implying that transporters cause the spores to lose effectiveness? Is that true?Quote:

No, its more that the likely reason for the spores losing effect is involved with whatever was transported.
I'm guessing on the people themselves.
Hmm, not sure about people--unless Fastolfe was perched on top of his night table, which is an amusing thought (and hey, who knows what positions he gets into during his romps). But yeah, that's a good point... something might have been beamed in, then beamed out, which made people lose the effect. Pretty risky, though, wasn't it? Palver was awake at the time of the murder, and any of the others could've been up when whatever-it-was was transported in.
Anyway I guess this conversation is one our characters should be having, heh. Maybe if Rangin and T'Var see Kylah's message that could be an answer re: what was beamed in/out (had to be something small if it fits on a night table).
Don't forget, the transports didn't take place at the time of the murder but some time afterwards, they happened afterwards.
That's true! I meant that anyone might have been awake at any time during the night (especially someone like Fastolfe), so whoever beamed stuff in--assuming it was done without the guests' knowledge/permission--was taking a risk that the targets were definitely sleeping and unaware some magic-emotion-causing-thingy had been beamed in.
Ooo, aren't clues fun?
I can't tell if you're going to be mocking us for years for not getting this sooner, or if this is just an incredibly difficult mystery!
Meanwhile... your description of Jan as "Czech businessman and bon vivant" cracked me up.
This mission has definitely taken some twists and turns I never would have foreseen.
Jeez - have a miscarriage and you miss all the good stuff. I do hope Graham will catch Collins up on all the gossipy stuff.
Speaking of gossip, I wonder if Graham's lesbian lovebunny is related to this guy back at the lab station:
Hey guys. Over in Apocrypha I've just started a four-part serial revealing one of Kylah's decidedly less-than-pleasant Academy experiences (which should put some perspective on her view of humans and Starfleet in general): "The Last Collectible, Part 1."
(The whole thing is already written but it's pretty long so I figure I'd split it up.)
Great! I'll check it out.
FYI all, our big annual conference is happening over the next 3 days, so my posting my be sporadic.
Thanks, general. Hope it goes well.
Nice touch, the hot chick mangling Graham's name EH. :bravo:
It's happened to him before, you may recall....
Have a good time, general_urko, we'll miss you! Do you get to travel or is it local?
And that was very funny with Graham/Grance thing. These Starfleet men do have problems with women remembering their names! Rangin can testify to that.
Have fun GU.
As long as his name is the only thing that gets mangled, Graham should be fine.
choie, is Darren Zweller (in your latest Apocrypha posting) perhaps the grandfather of Picard's young Starfleet colleague and friend?: http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Cortan_Zweller
Ha! Yes, I just PMed you about that. He is indeed. I was tempted to make him a granddad of Nick Locarno from "The First Duty" (basically Tom Paris), but thought that would be too obvious. I liked Cortan Zweller's connection with gambling and cheating, and figured his granddad might have similar proclivities even if Darren is a better gambler than his grandson.
The red hair is clearly a dominant gene.
Hee, yes, I admit I was also taken by the fact that the Zweller actor was... rather attractive. I needed someone who looked clean-cut and sort of idealized Academy material.
Conference in San Francisco. Beautiful venue by Golden Gate bridge, great people, but hell on earth for a hardcore introvert...
Damn, Choie, this is some serious stuff in Apocrypha.
Wow, I would not have pegged you for an introvert. Amazing how people can be perceived differently on- and offline! I understand very well how shyness and conventions/conferences are really bad matches. Hopefully the topic and scenery (and maybe you get some goodies? those were always my favorite parts of conferences!) will be more than worth the discomfort. And hey, San Francisco... how appropriate for a Trek fan. :)
I know the latest story is grimmity grimdark, sorry. Especially the last parts. It gets worse before it gets better, but obviously it does or, well, let's just say Jan wouldn't have that special place in Kylah's heart he does now. I wanted to explore exactly why Kylah is so bitter about human perceptions of Elasian women, and really the timing of her Academy career with Elaan of Troyius couldn't have been better. Just enough false rumors would've trickled down to create the notion in these horny young male minds that Elasian women are near-mythological, exotic sirens. Couple that with your typical smug entitled pilot BMOC and mix for an ugly scene.
(Also, in this latest part, you see exactly why Kylah decided to learn that slick move she pulled on Graham with her knife. Unfortunately she didn't have that skill yet.)
GU - hope you manage to find a nice empty space for yourself.
Poor Kylah; doesn't she have any good memories at all. I guess with colleagues like that, no wonder Velir's random offer of a meal as a friend and equal has led to more than I though it ever would.
Quite so! Hope you'll have some time to visit the SFA campus, general: http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb2...arters2151.jpg
I'm a pugnacious introvert :)
Well, I've just put up Rangin's first Apocrypha piece for your delectation.
Ooo, thanks!
Good entries to the Apocrypha, anyrose and CIAS. Always fun to see Collins in her happy and normal youth. Looks like her attitude as an adult is just nature, not nurture! And yay for Rangin's past life in the little known John le Carré sequel, Tinker, Tailor, Birdwatcher, Spy. :) I know so very little about the whole Orion Syndicate story in general... I don't think it was a TNG-era plot at all, was it? Which seems odd, it's right up late-TNG and especially DS9's alleys. Were they eradicated by the 24th century?
Meanwhile, is anyone else wary about what this storm is impending? Not good things, presumably.
We must be coming towards the end of the adventure. Nothing like a good storm to have a denouement to.
I'm expecting thunder, lightning, powercuts, fights in the rain, screams of panic, deathly showdowns and a small brave band of Starfleet's finest trying to save the day.
Unfortunately, OC3 got us. :D
Rangin is literally a tree-hugger...:D
choie, damn, good for Kylah! I knew she had something up her sleeve... or down her dress.
CIAS has very kindly given me modding powers in Creation Station. I only expect to use it to edit the ST Apocrypha thread, as needed, given that thread's obvious link to our ST RPG. Please do your very best to get your stuff there right in the first place ("shipshape and Bristol fashion"), though.
Just for note, I have asked EH to contact the writer in question, in advance of any changes should they be necessary. I'm expecting a log one about my spellink for sure. ;P
Also, if you want to some background to fit it in the AU, I'm sure EH will be open to it.
Within reason, yes. Thanks again.
So, they're developing a tricorder now - so people can self diagnose "more accurately", rather than guessing after reading two thirds of Web MD.
There are not enough  in the world for that.
Zweller had the same thought--he just didn't have the right deadly weapon in mind.
Thank you, very much EH! Yeah, she had a brief moment of awesome even if it earned her yet another enemy. And sadly even having protected herself, years later her first sexual experience was still traumatic! But at least we see partly why she mistrusts human intentions, and why she has a personal reason for not being entirely pro-Federation/Starfleet (in addition to the Elas/Klingon/Federation intrigue).
Oh I forgot to mention that I greatly enjoyed the insight into Villa's past! It's a wonderful opportunity to meet the NPCs who've been a constant throughout the years. I've been holding out hope we'll get to Bucci too, although considering what we already know about him, that will probably have to wait in-game!
Oy, just what every hypochondriac/anxiety-prone person (like me!) needs.
Conference over. Sitting around airport waiting to go home - new apocrypha!
T'Var should totally come on to Rangin now, just to make his life difficult....
Thanks. Next up is Science Officer Roble, the last of the Yorktown's senior officers not yet written about, but after that I could probably do Bucci. I was also thinking of following Capt. Singh at various points in her career, since she's been offstage for so much of our game threads.
Thanks, I'll check it out. Have a safe trip back!
You just made my day. LOL!
In some cracked alternative universe somewhere.
Rangin's Diary
Mon: 21:00 - Strip chess with T'Var. What a night...
Tues 19:00 - Strip Poker with Kylah...no problems losing this one.
Tues 21:00 - Should have remembered to cover T'Var's scratch marks, after Kylah added her own, currently locked out of her quarters.
Tues 21:30 - Cpt. Singh's office explaining scratches and nakedness in corridor.
Tues 21:45 - Infirmary for scratches - oh no - T'Var is on duty.
Wed 00:00 - Still in sickbay. Am now considering celibacy, T'Var had Kylah take notes during examination to make sure nothing else was wrong.
Wed 00:10 - Hmm, that cute blonde is making eyes at me from the next bed. Apparently she heard about the suit...wait why is T'Var coming towards me with that hypospray...
Thurs 07:45 - Have recovered and feel like a new man.
Thurs 08:00 - Saw that hunky new Ens. Graham from security at breakfast and he looks buff. Love the greying look. I'll ask Lt Collins to introduce us.
LOL.
FYI, I'll be on the road through late Sunday and will have intermittent Internet access.
So how come Rangin's diary doesn't mention his wild night with the redheaded Lt JG? :dubious:
If you insist....
Rangin's diary Part 2.
Thurs 11:00 - Talked to LT JG Collins about Graham, meeting set for later at Collins' quarters

Look on T'Var's face when wheeled in: Priceless.
:bravo:
Ah, so in this fantasy alt. universe Rangin has sex with everyone on two legs (and possibly four, depending on how he got that animal-related scar!) except Kylah? Hmph!
Enjoyed the latest Apocrypha story, g_u. Damn, women are hella victimized in the 23rd century! And yes please, EH, more from Singh's history would be great!
Heh. That's better.
Dear me, we are stuck without general_urko. I hope all is well!
Sorry I'll post this evening.
No worries, and thanks. Back home myself, safe and sound, from Boston.
Hope it was a good trip for both.
Now to find out what is in that safe.
So...anyone extra guesses as to what's in the safe?
I'm going with the two missing knives for starters?
