How careful are you with money?:dubious:
My wife was pretty darn thrifty when we got married, and it rubbed off on me. Fifteen years later we make more, but realy don't spend more.
We're just careful enough, I think.
I live for getting good deals with the regular daily stuff, grocery shopping and using coupons to get shampoo or shaving cream for free, for example. It takes us forever to make big purchases because we're just indecisive and unmotivated, so that saves quite a bit since we hate shopping. But we go out whenever we want to, don't have an exact budget or very good long-term planning and just sort of muddle through alright.
I'm pretty careful. Sometimes I have to prod myself to spend money on something I really want, yet is categorized as "frivolous" in my mind. I'm not a total tightwad because I will spend money on fun stuff and I might go out to eat once every other week or so, but I'm quite money conscious.
I'm not careful with money, but I generally don't spend much. So it sort of evens out.
I feel I do a good job with with savings though, every job I've had I've devoted a nice chunk towards that one tax-free pay day (hopefully).
If it's hockey or dog related, I spend like a drunken sailor. Anything else, and I'm Scrooge like.
I believe that money is meant to be spent. Can't take it with you after all.
I wouldn't say I'm as bad as a drunken sailor. After all, I manage to pay the rent and keep the lights on. But my saving skills are basically nonexistent. Or I don't make enough. Yeah, it's gotta be that. :)
I'm pretty careful now.
The rent in my new place is about $300 more than rent at the other spot, so I really pay attention these days.
I've learned that I can live on much less than I once thought and my savings is growing.
My wife and I spend, but we save a lot and well. We were both very frugal coming into our marriage. We avoid debts except for our mortgage and shop for bargains on what we do want. We limit our spending even at this time of year. Our biggest extravagance is eating out far too often. Neither of us are into expensive clothing. I like gadgets and tools but rarely if ever go nuts. We drive cheap cars into the ground. My 2003 Ford Focus has over 150,000 miles on it. I bought it new. I build and repair a lot of stuff. No lawn service, no maid, etc. We hope to retire a little early and will probably do so. We have a nice house in a very nice town with great schools. But this is of course also an investment.
Well, I seem to have inherited my budgeting skills from my parents...who have in the past declared bankruptcy.
So, gotta work on that.
As an actual drunken sailor I think we can all guess where I stand.
My husband is extremely good with money, and that's a good thing because if he wasn't we would be broke. I'm very frugal about big things, but tend to not work well within a budget for small, everyday things. Which is maybe why I'm frugal about big things, because I never have any money saved up! :smack:
Spending is only an issue for me when I start collecting things.
When I started collecting German radios...well, it was bad. And the price of each doubled when I
had them restored.
Bad Olive.
I veer wildly from one to the other.
I hoard at the moment, only because I'm not earning. Let's see how I handle an actual, real income.
I'm a minimalist when it comes to material goods; my most expensive possession is a guitar and my third most expensive is a pair of sunglasses. My car is #2. However, my maintenance costs could certainly be lower; I'm always down for a nice meal out, and I don't stint on the Scotch or the high-end beers.
I've had drunken sailors urge me to take it easy.
