What nickname(s) did you have as a kid? Does anyone still use them?

When I was a kid, my mom thought that it would be cute if we all had y-ending nicknames. Thus, Robert became Bobby, and Timothy became Timmy.

My Y nickname was Sally, which was dropped by almost everyone by the time I was 5 or so. For some reason, my sister had the opposite happen. I won't mention what it is (it's not actually Finky), but she goes by it to this day.

My brothers were fortunate to be able to just shorten theirs to Bob and Tim, of course.

My dad is a great one for giving silly nicknames...even the cats get them. Mine was Serendipity. (Get it? Sere-indipity? He also thinks he's funny.) And he still calls me Dippity quite often.

How about you? Any nicknames that have stuck, or fallen by the wayside?

I still get called "Nikko" to this day, and I got that "nick" at about 13!

No one calls me that anymore.

While I haven't gone by my given name (Geoffrey) in many, many years, I did when I was a sprout. My sister couldn't say it when she was a kid, and called me Fuffy, instead. Even though it's been years since someone's called me Geoffrey, my nuclear family and the Squidette, when she's feeling snarky, still call me Fuffy.

Drives me fucking batty.

I have had many nicknames, though one of my favourites was Full House B (coming from a particularly anomalous poker game). Haven't been called that in years.

Sarahfeena didn't mention that we also were all given Winnie the Pooh nicknames by our parents. No one was really called by their name except me. My dad still calls me Roo or Roo-Baby.

Sarahfeena called me Bean when I was little and still does sometimes. In fact, a friend of mine got mad at me when she heard Sarah call me Bean because she said that was the nickname her husband called her...and apparently that meant no one else was allowed to have it. Did I mention she's a little nutty?

People liked to refer to me just by my last name, Mahoney. All three of my brothers got it too. When I run into people from high school and before they still call me that.

I got called Duffy quite a bit in high school (must be something about those Irish surnames), mostly by sports teammates, but most people just called me Ben.

Elementary school was hell, as everyone called me "Benji" after the stupid dog.

My parents enjoyed taunting me by calling me "Carl," which for a small child just learning about gender distinctions causes a frantic and weepy reaction: "I'm not Carl! Carl is a boy's name! I'm a girl!"

They also called me "Princess Sagging Socks" as I was not particularly appearance-oriented and evidently didn't pull up my bobby socks as often as I was supposed to.

Neither name stuck, fortunately. But if I sound just a tad unimpressed with their wit, it's because I am.

I think some people I went to high school with think my parents named me Smurf. Really - I'm not sure they know any other name for me.

And since my name is Wendy, I was Winnie the Pooh to a lot of people in grade school

I thought about this thread today, because I suddenly remembered that back in high school, Oliveloaf inexplicably used to call me "coach."

My mother, in infinite wisdom and maturity, decided to call me Mowgli when I was a child, because she thought I would be embarrassed by the reference to a child who was "raised by wolves." It didn't stick, but I always wondered what a name like that said about the mother who raised me. :LOL:

I got 'Christmas Tree' on account of my eclectic fashion sense - apparently, I had that vomitting-rainbow effect acheived by throwing tonnes of tinsel over a tree.

I also got 'DK' for 'dictionary kid'. I tended to be quite pedantic about words etc then...

My family all called me Sis or Sissy, which was ironic in itself because I was an only child. I'm the last one left alive, but Dad called me Sis until the day he died. I miss hearing it.
