God, I haven't thought about Odelay in years. I used to be totally in love with that album. Nice pick Zuma.
Odelay will always be a favorite of mine, as I lost my virginity listening to it. Weird music to screw to, but a quality album overall.

Son House - John the Revelator
No music, no anything beyond Son House belting out this haunting slice of something that falls nicely between the blues, a stump preacher, and a chain gang work chant. Powerful stuff.
I always liked Beck in the way I liked, say, Offspring. I always enjoyed his music without really seeking him out. It's only recently I've been turning into a semi-fanatic. I'm always late to the party.

Heather Nova, Doubled Up.
Played at a reasonable volume on a good stereo this is absolutely euphoric.
Live she can do this really badly or with ecstasy inducing perfection. Fortunately the gig my daughter and I went to was of the latter variety.

Wow, Myglaren. That is absolutely gorgeous. Heather Nova hasn't crossed my radar before and it's clearly been my loss.
She flies pretty low and is somewhat hitty-missy but the good stuff is outstanding. Check out the other thread with Sugar, slow starter!

I bought "Oyster" first and still think it was the right one to start with.
Probably "Wonderlust" next, then "Live From The Milky Way" (another excellent version of "Sugar") then Red Bird.
She has just released a new album, "Jasmine" but I haven't heard it. She's on in London in November, will probably go and see her again.

Siren was the third album I bought but IMO the others noted above are all-over better although Siren does have some excellent tracks on it.

The song was released in 2005, with the greatest hits compilation for Savage Garden. The song was written for Hayes' partner, Richard Cullen, whom he married in a civil partnership ceremony in London on June 19, 2006.

Wow. That was beautiful, strange and tragic. What is it that the song itself is about? I can't find a translation.
To my eternal regret I never learned French and although I keep threatening to do so nothing seems to happen.
It is mainly the sounds I relate to although I do like to hear the French words, despite being only able to understand a few. So much prettier than English.
(I drive French cars too and have done for many a year, someone may be able to read something into this?
There is some info on the song in Wikipedia
She is said to be a very clever wordsmith and many of her songs operate on several levels. Perhaps this is why she doesn't sing in English.
She is often rather risquee, but then, she is French :)
The not speaking French thing may be a problem as I'm off to see her in Brussels next weekend. Last show of what has been rummoured to be her last tour before she retires.

Chris Thile is known as one of the best and most innovative mandolin players to come on the scene in a long time, and while this song may not capture all of his instrumental prowess it's A. One of the only covers of the White Stripes that should be allowed by law, and B. I love bluegrass covers of mainstream rock music.

It was a fabulous concert. Not as elaborate as some of the previous ones but impressive nevertheless. She was magnificent. Looked so tiny and fragile but full of energy. Her singing was faultless.
A great experience all round. Met lots of French people who were all very warm and friendly, completely unlike the stereotype.
