As I'e commented on chat, I regret not having seen the proposed new name earlier.
"Pachydome", phonetically, has unfortunate connotations. Specifically, it sounds like 'Paki-dome', and "Paki" is a racial slur in British English.

That is unfortunate. But as you say, the connotation is phonetic - in text, the medium we will be using, it should be clear that is not what we mean. Hopefully. As for speaking about it in meat space, well, a nickname might be in order. Or business cards. Or tattoos.

Please don't register there yet if you're already registered here. When the database is moved over, usernames and passwords will transfer over. Registering at the new site only makes merging more difficult, because old DoMeBo users would need to be associated manually with users at the new board. There's also a lot that still needs to be configured; user groups, chat and the like.
PMs should transfer over when the pbpBB database is moved over.

Well, if it helps at all, "pachyderm" is pronounced pak-i-derm, not pak-y-derm. I'd been pronouncing it "pak-i-dome" in my head, so there's not as much of a phonetic connotation.

I don't understand even remotely why everyone was so enthused about Pachydome, I think it's a terrible name.

What will probably happen during the move: vBulletin uses a script called Impex to convert members, passwords, posts, PMs and other data from other message board systems. Sometime in the next week or so, the admins here will save the DoMeBo MySQL database. All posts made here after that point, all account changes, all PMs sent and so on will NOT be transferred over; DoMeBo will become an "amnesia pit" of sorts for a couple of days. The admins here will probably turn off new member registration at DoMeBo, to avoid any confusion during the actual move.
After the transfer is complete and everything seems to work okay, domebo.net will point to the new site.
It's gonna' be an edumacational experience for the new admins. I'm going to be there to help, but I'm really not an "owner" of the new site. I posted some things earlier about what I think some of the problems on DoMeBo were, and I'm putting my time where my mouth is. Eventually, I'll fade into the background; I'm already running one message board, so I can't be a "Jerry" at Pachy for too long. I want to see the new site to succeed, though. Success doesn't necessarily mean GB-like traffic, but rather a sustainable, slowly growing community that will eventually find its own personality and niche in the expanding universe of SDMB spinoffs.
