22 pages of Pit on the SDMB
I'm just amazed so I'm posting this here.
My thread pitting of randrover on the SDMB has gone to 22 pages. I've never produced a successful pit before, and I'm pleased.
Of course the thread has taken numerous twists and the OP has pretty much been forgotten but I'm happy that my last OP didn't sink like the stones I've dropped all over those boards.
How did your last pitting do there?

Re: 22 pages of Pit on the SDMB
The only successful pitting I ever did, I think, was Indian Hater Jackson.

Re: 22 pages of Pit on the SDMB
I've been pitted (or been part of a group pitted) seven times.
Nothing has ever gone more than three pages, as far as I can remember.
I don't tend to pit people (usually someone else beats me to it, and starting a thread for a person is a level of dignity I don't like to afford fuckwidgets), but I think I've had a pit thread I started go seven pages. I'd have to search the board to find out, though, and that requires logging in over there, which I can but would rather not do (extra traffic for the site, and why would I help boost Ed's numbers?).
In all these things (numbers-wise), I am open to correction. It's been almost eight years, so something's bound to have slipped through the cracks.

Re: 22 pages of Pit on the SDMB
I posted a pit thread about my drive to work. It went, IIRC,a page and a half. That's more conversation than I think anything else I've ever posted has gotten.

Re: 22 pages of Pit on the SDMB
I bow to your superior pit-worthiness, Jali. You pipped me by a page.
Below is a breakdown of my pitting record.
Hostile Dialect 21 pages ( Looked at me funny in a GD thread.)
dogs on the menu 15 ( This should have been far more successful.)
smacked arses 9 ( In which I berate snitches.)
internet assholes 9 ( and assholes.)
animal abusers 5 ( Disappointing turn out for this one.)
cash in the attic 2 ( The only one I regret. It caught me on a bad day.)
I think I only got one pitting, and I reckon that was just the headiness of Amnesia Weekend!
But Jali, can you beat 4 locked threads?

Re: 22 pages of Pit on the SDMB
Hmm...the last pit I remember doing was a huge failure. It turned around on me. It was my fault because I started a thread trying to talk about something I couldn't express well enough, so people attacked every little thing I said out of context. And I didn't want to say what I REALLY meant because what I really meant was really mean and stuck up...
-
Re: 22 pages of Pit on the SDMB
It sucks when that happens... allegedly.

I finally logged out of the SDMB so now I can go in and read them. I feel better being a visitor with no posts and no clicks to the ad links than a member.

Re: 22 pages of Pit on the SDMB
I have had 1 semi sucessful pit thread in my time, and that only ended up being 4 pages long. It was me ranting at a person who is no longer a friend about not disclosing her STD status to people she was randomly hooking up with because it made her less likely to be able to close the deal and she needed that male attention more than she needed to warn them about their risk of disease.
I had another pit thread that was personally very sucessful, but only went to 47 replies, about my then current (now former) employers and what unbelievable douchbags they are both as people and as business owners.
-
The only time I ever started a Pit thread, it was a parody pitting, and the wanker was banned before my thread got past a handful of responses.

Good work! Let me get over there and get in on the action.

Re: 22 pages of Pit on the SDMB
Better hurry, Nzinga, our intrepid friend has just been officially warned in a different thread and has bragged in jali's thread that he'll be a jerk as much as he wants to be on the Board. Hard to imagine he's long for the SDMB, even if it still had the Full Leaded Pit.
BTW, welcome here, Nzinga!

Re: 22 pages of Pit on the SDMB
Rand Rover? I'd forgotten about that cuntnugget. Hope he doesn't ooze over here (though I can't see how he'd have time, what with being a brilliant, successful attorney).
I've never been Pitted. (Unless it's happened in the week or so since I got banned.) Guess I just don't have what it takes.
-
Re: 22 pages of Pit on the SDMB
I honestly don't know. I've had a few long ones.
And, to my utter dismay, I have never been seriously Pitted. I don't understand why. I'm a mean old bitch.
-
Re: 22 pages of Pit on the SDMB
The only time I was ever Pitted was by a twelve year old sock puppet (so the thread was instantly locked) and the little bint didn't even put my name in the thread title. It was so disappointing.
I have much higher hopes for this board.

Re: 22 pages of Pit on the SDMB
Out of curiosity, I checked if I had ever started a pit thread. I total three, the last one five years ago. One on public transport, one on soccer players being babies, and one on Latinate plurals. As I'm sure you can guess, none of these went more than a page.

Re: 22 pages of Pit on the SDMB
My most successful pitting was the one about gonzomax, after he used the word "faggy" with total obliviousness to describe those dogs that were "in costume" (clipped and dyed like ninja turtles and such). Went to 8 pages (still ongoing, but dying from sheer exhaustion at slamming our heads against gonzo's sheer boneheadedness).

There was a thread pitting the number 2, or something like that. Do you remember that one? I recall it being very popular.

Re: 22 pages of Pit on the SDMB
My most successful pitting was of catsix, which went 8 pages and racked up 373 responses. Most of the rest of my Pittings were of the Bush Administration, its policies and its allies (RIP, Reeder.) I got 7 pages on Saudi "justice," and 4 pages on Gitmo. The only other poster I ever pitted was I Love Me, Vol. I, and we have since buried the hatchet. Over the years, I had 18 Pittings that went to double digits in responses.

There's a reason they call it "deuce".

Re: 22 pages of Pit on the SDMB
I've apparently had four pits that went to two pages each. Huh. And I'd utterly forgotten about this one.
I did like the one where I called someone a "pustule on life's buttcrack," though.

Re: 22 pages of Pit on the SDMB
What's the current status of "The Telemarketer Speaks, I Respond" thread? That's considered the Pitting of all Pittings and every month or so it was bumped to the top and garnered a few more posts lauding Cervaise.
My most successful pitting was sadly the beginning of the end of my life at the Dope. I made the mistake of calling out a well loved poster and tearing her to shreds. She responded by calling me "THE C WORD" in 72 point font and the thread ended up being everyone who ever hated me airing their greivances. Quite a couple of days.

Can't find either thread, NAF1138. Would you mind providing a link?

I'm pretty sure it's closed now since people kept bumping it up years after it had been originally posted. :p

Sure,
They aren't much but
don't have unprotected sex with an STD thread
Sadly, it was not the behavior in that thread that caused me to stop being friends with her. It's when she started blaming me for all the casual sex she was having even though it made her feel like shit about herself, and how this was my fault because god only knows why.
On the upside, I did learn that condoms don't protect from herpes from that one. It's surprising how naive I was looking back on that one.
Letter to my employers
Another doper who worked in HR actually helped me spruce up my resume based on that thread, and I went out and got a new job that is better in just about every way.

I do remember one particular pit thread you started, and the reason I remember it is you started it on my behalf. . .it was after my oldest daughter's first suicide attempt, and I posted about it on the Dope. I was an emotional wreck over that whole thing. And one poster (Eternal) posted in my thread (about my daughter's attempted suicide) to the effect that obviously she wasn't serious about trying to kill herself, because if she was, she'd have gone about it differently. Way to be supportive, asshole. And you, my dear 'punha, called him out thoroughly in the pit, and became my knight in shining armor. ;)
