I doubt it would either help or hurt. I probably wouldn't mention it unless it were truly integral to the point of your essay.

I'm not applying to school. (I flamed out of grad school) this was a thought experiment, and your answer was what I was thinking. I know parents were "legacies" but wondered if that extended to other family.
