Advent Calendars
Ok, so who gets an advent calendar to count down to Christmas?
Do you get the simple cards ones or the ones with chocolate or other goodies behind?
For those with families, does everyone take a turn, or is someone always the first to open each day?
And more importantly, why don't I have one yet? :o

We always got one when my kid was little, but got out of the habit.
Of course, they are probably better suited for kids who are good at doing things in order, instead of popping in at random.

We did them every year when I was a kid, but now that I'm grown and on my own I don't do them because I'd feel sort of odd. If I ever have kids, I'd like to continue the tradition.
A childless couple of artists who are friends with my sister created a giant advent calendar for her kids, which has actual gifts for each day. The package arrived when I was visiting for Thanksgiving and it's just beautiful. I doubt I'd ever go through that trouble myself, though.

My sisters and I almost always had one for Christmas when we were growing up. Our boys like them now - one is all-Lego, and the other is usually a chocolate one. We also have one I really like that has a nice colored woodblock-looking illustration of a farmhouse; you open up its doors and windows, day by day, to see all the people inside the house getting ready for Christmas.

Wheeeeee!! I got one.
It's only a small one, but I'm going to enjoy opening it.

I know you can get them here but they're not really a tradition.

We had one in my family when I was growing up. We got the ones with pictures, not candy, though.
