An officer who is undercover with environmental protest groups has appeared to switch sides causing a major trial to be abandoned after the officer said he was prepared to give testimony for the defence.
Apparently he was undercover with the groups for 10 years and it appears he has gone native.

One of the comments on the article pretty much reflects my thoughts:

The Police have some explaining to do. He was practically running some of their activities according to this piece.
This is very odd. That sounds less "undercover" and more "sleeper agent with no end game."
