I am capable of enjoying the entire spectrum of delicious cheese/tomato/bread-based foods. Don't make me decide. That's like Sophie's Choice right there.

"Deep dish" at a pizza place around here doesn't normally mean "Chicago-style", which is what Oliveloaf posted. (Yes, Olive, Sarah, I'm aware that Chicagoans don't eat that stuff but that's the usual term for it, at least where I am.)
Oh, that's the kind we call "Chicago-style," too. It's just not the only kind that's indigenous to Chicago. We do eat it, too! Just not as our regular pizza diet (at least, some of us).
I can't vote. Sometimes I'm in the mood to wait 45 minutes to get a deep dish, but other times I'm impatient and want to eat right now so I'll go with the thin crust. But if they were both ready and in front of me, I'm going deep baby.

As the OP, let me be the first to say that this is a stupid argument. All pizza can be fabulous.
Another point: The best thin-crust pizza I've ever had was made in Chicago.
Sarahfeena and I used to go to a dumpy bar after work that served great, often slightly-charred, crispy pizza that was always a little too salty and just awesome with booze.
The place has long-since changed names. Had some pizza there a couple years ago and it was just okay.
I've had NY-style pizza in NY, it was fine. Didn't really get a handle on why it was special. Thickish thin crust? You can get that anywhere.
In St. Louis some places use cheddar as well as moz. Interesting. Stretches the definition of pizza. It was good.
If the first pizza you ever had came from Chuck E. Cheeses you'd never eat pizza again. You'd also never have a child, or work in food service...
We're going to be spending a few days in Chicago in August...can the Second City Mellos recommend some good places for either type of pizza?
For historic purposes, you should try and get into Pizzeria Uno or Due.
Uno is largely understood to be the origin of deep dish pizza, and their pies are interesting and yummy.
Essentially sauceless, the tomatos come finely chopped with basil, oregeno and what not tossed in. These are huge, dense, filling pizzas
but uniquely Chicago.
Due is a block away, and once served as overflow for Uno. They serve exactly the same pizza.
I say avoid Gino's East.

Thin crust is good for general snackage but deep dish is a MEAL
thin crust, unless I trust the place to make an amazing deep dish. My one complaint about deep dish is that all the restaraunts around here always try to add chunky tomato sauce and the crust is always a little undercooked on the inside. Which spells the nasty (at least to me)
Maybe I need to go to another area that does it halfway decently and try it. Because the thin crust around here can be ah-mazing.
Sorry, Oliveloaf, but that isn't a pizza, that is a cheese pie with some saucy-type stuff spread all over it!

Then again, it depends on whether I want a meal or a snack. If it's the latter, then "thin" is the usual preference...
