Wimbledon 2010
Sneaking in at the same time as the football, comes a much more refined game. The most prestigious Grand Slam of the Tennis Season, Wimbledon, is upon us.
I am hoping that the standard of the last couple of years for the men's game continues this year and that the ladies game picks up.
Roger Federer will be looking for his 7th title and has to be the favourite although there will be a lot of people hoping for the upset. It will be good to see if Nadal has recovered fully from all his injuries and can match him. No doubt that players like Djokovic, Murray and Soderling will have an opinion on it.
As for the Ladies, will it be another Williams win, or will the returning Clijsters and Henin have something else to say about it. On the British side, I wonder how far Laura Robson can go? Then again, she is playing Jelena Jankovic, so a loss ion the first round then.

I woke up early when the sun came in at 6:00, and switched on to see what World Cup match was playing. N. Korea was getting pummeled, and then I saw, hey, first round Wimbledon - at least it's something, right? And Roger Federer was having his ass handed to him in the second set.
Almost a really bad day for Switzerland vs. South Americans. Federer looks vulnerable, though he may well make it to the final after that.
Is this Laura Robson's first Wimbledon with the big girls? Tough for her to have Jankovic.
Factoid reported this morning by the commentators - this is the first ever Wimbledon without an Englishman in the draw (presumably men's singles, but maybe in the whole tournament as well).

I believe Federer got a real wake up call with that one, but he looked superb in the fifth and I don't see that happening again.
Also had a very late finish last night on Centre court allowing Djokovic to finish his match. That roof is worth its wait in gold. Matches can finish late at night, rain doesn't disrupt play and no more Cliff Richard singalongs.
Laura Robson didn't go down 6-0, 6-0 which is the usual fate for those starting on centre court. It looks like she will be going in for the ladies and mixed doubles. Bright future for this one, we hope.
No englishmen this year, only two scots. They decided against giving a wild card to Boggo (Alex Bogdanovic) for the 9th year in a row to watch him waste his talent and fail in the first round time and again.

7 hours. Over 100 games. 70 games in one set. And Isner and Mahut keep going.

This game is setting so may records it is unbelievable. Longest match, longest set, most games, most aces. They just keep tumbling.
Currently sat at 59-59 in the fifth. This final set alone is longer than any other match, and by the time play was suspended last night, both men looked shattered.
It looks like they have been given a lie-in, they are not due to start before 15:30.
