We were in Dallas. Let's see a historical place, I said. So we drive over to where JFK was assassinated. Then we get hit up by a guy with a slick patter and a pouch full of laminated Guides To The JFK Assassination that he's peddling, and then we see this large yellow sign reading GRASSY KNOLL. And then we felt like voyeuristic crass assholes, so we went home.

Nope. It's a creature I created for an RPG. They're colloquially called "crawlers" by humans and exhibit radial symmetry. They have eyes all the way around their body and can use any limb to manipulate tools and weapons.
And if I remember correctly they excrete mucous through those holes to cool themselves.
...the little crawlers were much cuter.
The mucus came out of the holes on the very top of the carapace. You know, so it could drip downward. :D
