What are your favourite Beatles covers?

I was having trouble remembering more, and in my googling found this overwhelmingly long list: http://www2.wmin.ac.uk/clemenr/covers/coversfull.html. There are quite a few there I'd love to hear, and many more that I'm horrified at the idea of.

It deserved to be double posted anyway, as it's one of the few times - maybe the only time - someone else's version of a Beatles song became the definitive version. :)

Here's one, it's off George Martin's (wildly uneven) Beatles covers project. I think this version is lovely, though:

Oh, the guy playing is John Williams. The English classical guitarist, not the composer.

I always assumed that John Williams was English or at least British too but discovered recently, through his mentoring of the wonderful Xuefei Yang, that he is actually Australian.

I liked that Fiona Apple one. Along the same lines here's a Jazz version of "And I Love Her"

Now that you mention it, I actually remember reading that he was Australian, and I remember being surprised at the time. Apparently my long-term memory really, really wants to believe he's English, because I promptly forgot. :madsci:

Cash lends this song the gravitas of his advanced years. It is a lovely song but I think perhaps Cash's version is marginally superior to the original.

This only has one line, so it's not really a cover, but it's kind of a unusual place to hear a Beatles line:

(The "Michelle" bit is at 4:40)

Noticed this one on that huge list - the song seems well-suited for Mr. Loaf.

Can't agree on Johnny Cash and I like Cash. The Meat Loaf one is good, I heard this at a Clearwater Revival once under very special circumstances. The rain came down in buckets and the festival lost power. My wife and I were near a stage where a gospel chorus was about to perform. One lady walked out, it turned out to be Odetta. She said, "Who says we need power, this is a folk festival." Waved her arms and the Chorus walked out starting "Let it Be" and then Odetta joined in. It was nearly magical.

I too like the Fiona Apple cover of "Across the Universe." I think I prefer it to the original.

I also like the Jeff Beck cover of "A Day in the life."

I think this might be a John Lennon song, not technically The Beatles, but I still love it.

There was very little about Dana Fuchs' musical performances as Sadie in Across the Universe that I didn't like.
