Happy birthday!

Well, sort of.

See, there used to be this board called Domebo. And that board was built on the principles of fair moderation, honesty and democracy.

:: Cue swelling violins, shots of waving flags, and teary-eyed SDMB veterans with their hands over their hearts. ::

Naturally, that didn't last long.

Domebo died a noble death 'neath the weight of chat, porn and Internetardation. Yet from the flames of Domebo's death rose Mellophant, based on the principles of fascism and dick jokes.

One year ago today our forefathers brought forth Domebo. God bless them.

DoMeBo was a rough ride but at least it gave us an alternative to the Dope and birthed Mellophant which I rather like.

Amazingly, I was thinking of that picture just yesterday.

ivan's going to be tossing out some music for the birthday later on today.

Reading all those old threads, it's amusing to see how invested we were in the idea of a democratic board.

CRSP's experiment was a noble one, but it could not work. I am much happier with our current style of board government.

That said, I had a ball at Domebo. :dumbo:

It has been a fun year, if somewhat upheaval-prone, and I've enjoyed getting to know you all on line, in a way I never could at the SDMB. Let's hope the next 12 months go a little more smoothly and hopefully we will be around to celebrate a second birthday in 2011.

Ditto what Hattie said. I've so enjoyed getting to know all of you as more than just words on a screen! It's been a really rewarding experience and I have a lot more confidence now that we're in it for the long haul. :)

I'm glad! I think we've got a fun forum and I hope everyone who posts here finds it a pleasant glade to rest in in between fierce and furious battles with the rest of the internet.
