Default Are Facebook and Twitter killing message boards?

    This just occurred to me...

Might social media be sucking some of the life out of message boards?

I don't have any evidence of this, I just see how it might be possible.

    Anyone?

My friend who runs a once very busy MB says that the consensus in the community is indeed that facetwitter have killed many messageboards. Much of the social interaction, exchange of ideas that people sought by using MBs is being fulfilled by facebook and twitter. I like twitter but I have a strong disdain for facebook.

I'm too edgy about my privacy to use Facebook the way I use message boards - that's my real name on there and I don't friend people who I don't actually know. But that's just me. I do think the tweeting and the facebooking are doing what message boards used to for a lot of people.

Probably. Even if you are an epic procrastinator, there are still only so many hours in the day to waste, and FB and tweeting compete for them.

For me, Facebook, Twitter, and message boards fill different roles. I keep up with my IRL friends on FB, I keep up with blogs I like on Twitter, and message boards I use for general conversation with people I wouldn't normally have an opportunity to know. I know a lot of people are FB friends with their message board friends, but I prefer to keep the two separate.

Speaking of twitter, WHERE ARE MAH TIPS FROM ANNAMAE, HUH?
I don't think so, therefore I'm probably not.

Mom hasn't been nearly as annoying as usual lately.

The big difference I found is that FB tends to be social with people you know and the Message boards have a much wider spectrum of people on them.
