    I didn't take any of these. I scanned them from old books but I thought one or other of ye might have interest in seeing them. Feel free to ask any questions. They were all taken in Dublin City, at various times during the 20th century.



    The placards in the above picture related to the "Economic War" between Britain and the Irish Free State.

    OK, why was the coal delivery being guarded? Do they still sell Thwaites' Ginger Ale?

    No no Thwaite's that I know of although the brand and product to the left of that one still exists, C&C Club Soda.

    The coal delivery photograph comes from a book about the 1913 lock out. Basically this was a huge industrial dispute. While it was going on , the families of many of the striking workers became destitute and would have had to resort to stealing coal and food in some cases.
