Default Fairfax County is the safest place in the world...

Wait, I think I'm burying the lead. Let's try this. Man arrested for drinking coffee, naked, in his own kitchen!

The writer of the blog is pretty outraged, and I have to agree, it's pretty outrageous. I guess if people don't want to see the dude naked, they could try not looking into his window. Or if it's really problematic, they could ask him not to do that anymore. Instead of arresting him...or everything else that they did.

Then on Wednesday, Fairfax police went back to Williamson's neighborhood and started handing out flyers and asking his neighbors if they may have ever seen Williamson naked (again, while inside of his own home), further sullying the man's name.

Police believe that Eric's little show during breakfast might have been done on purpose and ,considering that the man's house is a few yards away from(and in view of) a school bus stop, arrested the 29 year old and charged him with indecent exposure. Should any further complaints about the man come forward, then those charges may also be tacked on. As it is, Williamson faces about a year in jail, a lifetime of being called a "sex offender", and $2000 in fines.
Anyway, like the blogger, I'm assuming Fairfax County has zero crime, otherwise, why would the police be wasting their time with this?
I'm still swimming in harmony. I'm still dreaming of flight. I'm still lost in the waves night after night...

    Good God. That is horrific.

I recognize that I have a much freer view of nudity than most Americans, but honestly? Sitting naked in your own house is now a sex offense? WTF? There's nothing inherently sexual about that.

I might better be able to get on this RO wagon if the blogger actually linked to the news stories on it. I feel as though we are getting a very one-sided part of the story. As it is, I don't know if it was a frivolous arrest or just a dumb blogger.

This would appear to have a link to the actual story: http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2009/10...y5409509.shtml

So we have he said, she said:
"Yes, I wasn't wearing any clothes but I was alone, in my own home and just got out of bed. It was dark and I had no idea anyone was outside looking in at me," Williamson said.
Should be freed and paid damages.
But at about 8:30 a.m. on Monday morning, a neighbor walking her son to school says he deliberately exposed himself-- not once, but twice. First, she says it happened as he was standing in the glass doorway in the kitchen, and then again at a front window.

"We've heard there may have been other people who had a similar incident," said Mary Ann Jennings, a Fairfax County Police spokesperson.
Sounds more like a proper arrest.

So I am not sure what the real story is.

For anyone interested: The guy has been convicted, but not facing any sentence.

Of course, he's also lost his commercial driving job because of this flap.

ETA: I think I remember a case while I was growing up in MA in the 80s where an out-and-out nudist in his own yard was told by a court that he had an absolute right to do what he liked on his property, but even if that's a correct memory it's a different jurisdiction, and different laws may apply.

I don't think his penis should be called a flap - no matter how it may be flapping... or flopping.

The final straw was when he spent 20 minutes stood on a chair "trying to change a tricky lightbulb"... allegedly.

As my dad used to say everytime I would try to get him to put some pants on or close the curtains, " If they don't want the show, they don't have to watch."

Absolutely ridiculous that he now has a conviction for that. Where's the justice?

As to the thread title, I have to say that having visited Reston VA (which is in Fairfax county) on business a couple of times each year for the past decade, it really is a very, very safe place. I don't think I have ever felt an unsafe moment there, and that's saying something. I spend a lot of time in unfamiliar environments and generally there will be something which will make me at least a tiny bit uneasy, but I can't recall anything which has happened in Reston or its environs to make me uncomfortable.

The quiet ones are the ones you have to watch out for!
