Default 1987: The Best Year For Movies, Ever

    http://riverbottomnightmareblog.blog...d-cinemas.html

Cole Stratton blogged about the top 50 grossing films of 1987, and as I looked at the list, I realized that I was raised on films mostly made in 1987. Lost Boys, Mannequin, The Princess Bride, Moonstruck, Dirty Dancing, La Bamba, etc. etc.

Lol, Harry in the Hendersons is 43. When 30 Rock referenced it last year, I was convinced that it was a fake movie that the writers of 30 Rock came up with. I never watched it before, and I could not believe that it actually existed.

Wow. I had no idea that the majority of the films of my childhood actually came from that year. How bizarre, considering that I was so little when they came out. I guess they just stayed popular with my older cousins and sister, so I was repeatedly exposed to them.

I had the exact same reaction. I was 5 that year, but every movie I ever loved as a child was released that year.

I would argue the classic choice of 1939:

Gone with the Wind (1939) 8.2/10 (70893 votes)
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939) 8.4/10 (30273 votes)
    Stagecoach (1939) 7.8/10 (13244 votes)
    Ninotchka (1939) 7.9/10 (6122 votes)
    Wuthering Heights (1939) 7.9/10 (5931 votes)
    The Women (1939) 8.0/10 (5108 votes)

WOAH! You can't just make a long list and throw in crappy movies like no one is going to notice! Star Trek: Generations is not even the best TNG movie. Also, The Flintstones? Maverick?

Are those votes on the movies you're listing from IMDB, Jim?

Wow, does Leonard Part 6 cancel out the awesome of that year? I suppose it doesn't because it's so bad it's funny.

I maintain that 1987 is a vintage year for people, too. Though I am less than objective in saying that.
Something tells me we haven't seen the last of foreshadowing.

Leonard Part 6 is troubling. It's pretty awful. Though with the benefit of hindsight, it has become "so bad it's funny."

Yep, it was the handiest quick listing with some fast edits to get rid of stuff I did not know or really hated.

Oh, oh, oh! Best movie of all time, hands down. 1987 wins purely by virtue of having produced this most brilliant film which inspired me to begin exploring the idea of self-replicating machines.
