    Oh, Baldwin.

You must be feeling so very embarrassed right now.

    Why?

The story is okay, but the writing needs a lot of improvement before it's going to be good writing by my lights.

Just because a person is a published author, doesn't mean that person is a "good writer". Look at Danielle Steele.

True, but Danielle Steele has not taken time out to contribute content for our front page, for free.

Whether you like the story or not (I did) telling her to "keep at it" is a little silly since it is clear that she needs no such advice.

Yeah, I suppose so! No offense intended.

Yes, she does. For all I know she's won the Pulitzer for other work, but she's obviously not mastered this particular kind of story.

In your opinion, you mean...which means nothing to me. And probably even less to anyone else. But wow, I can't wait to read your submissions, Spanky! Might wanna wait til you master it, though. Wanker.

I loved it! I actually enjoy short stories more than novels because I have no patience. Will we get to read more by Stacia Kane?

Yes, obviously it's my opinion, otherwise I would have so noted.

No, that makes no sense. It's almost impossible to master a form without submitting one's preliminary efforts to sincere criticism.

Front Page News For discussion of front page content.
Is that not supposed to include opinions?

I've yet to see you write anything positive on this board, Baldwin. Have you something constructive to offer? Even if you don't, is it so hard to appreciate that someone took the time and the effort to contribute her work in the hope we'd be entertained, and maybe acknowledge that with a word of thanks along with your criticism?

I don't think the front page articles are being submitted as an invitation to workshopping.

    We've been given a gift.

Instead of sincere appreciation for the gift and thanking the contributor, some of our members have decided to "critique" the gift.

I think it's small minded, self serving and just plain rude.

I've been unable to read the story - for some reason the comments and story are jumbled together for me.

I decided to go to Stacia's page and I was able to comment on her blog.

ETA: my sig is probably invalid now.
