Default Speak to me of corn tortillas

I haven't had them in ages, because they aren't usually available in these parts and I'm too lazy to make my own (as if I could get masa harina anyway).

But they had some in the store the other day, so I got them. Now, I must be sure to use them well! A memory is gnawing at the back of my brain...I *know* there was a great recipe using corn tortillas posted here. I think it was Zuul's (Caerie's) Front Page recipe, which should be archived, but I can't seem to locate it.

So, what should I do with my corn tortillas?

    Tortilla Soup
8 (or more) corn tortillas cut into 1/4" wide strips
    1 large onion chopped
    4 large cloves garlic, smashed
    1 tablespoon paprika
    2 teaspoons ground cumin
    1 teaspoon ground coriander
    1 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon cayenne (adjust for your heat tolerance, some people need less, some more)
    12 cups chicken broth
    1 can tomato soup
    1 large can diced tomatoes
    2 bay leaves
    1 bunch cilantro, chopped
    1 avocado diced
    1 lime, wedge sliced
    6 more corn tortillas, torn
    oil

Sauté onion and garlic in a little oil. Bring the broth to boil while sautéing.

    Add spices to the broth.

In a blender add canned soup, cooked onion/garlic mix, and 6 torn tortillas. Blend. Add to the broth.

Add canned tomatoes and cilantro. Once it comes back to a boil, turn it down to simmer while you fry the tortilla strips in oil until crispy.

Serve in boils with a squeeze of lime, a little avocado and crispy tortilla strips.

Luckily for us, there is a tortillaria a block and a half from home. Fresh corn tortillas are always in our casa. Tonight, they are being utilized in default mode: tacos. Fresh tortillas are divine. Hard packaged shells blow chunks.

I absolutely agree, silenus. A fresh tortilla is really wonderful, though they're a bit hard to get around here unless I'm making them myself. I miss walking into restaurants and seeing someone making them right then and there.
