A plague on both your houses.

    Excalibur: Useless.

Myrnalene: Never noticed you before now. Not impressed.

McNutty: Wasting your time and lowering yourself. Stop it.

Incidentally, is "the snackpit" the same as the Snarkpit?

Hear that, Myrncalibur? Jim was thinking the same thing. And he's practically your biggest supporter, you cunts. I don't know why he listens to you at all. If I were him, I'd be worried that the reason you were having little pow-wows about board policy in chat was so the whole conversation would be off the record and you could publicly shit on him for whatever he ended up doing, even though it was at your urging. If the mods never made any mistakes, you guys would have to stop shrieking about what they do.
FWIW, chat is never "off the record" and anybody who thinks they're having some sort of private conversation in the chat is a fucking idiot. All the chats are logged, and the admins/mods have access to the logs--and I know Jim glances through them regularly. Furthermore, you can sit in chat and watch everything without showing up on the list of users. Finally, there are always helpful little posters who will C&P and share chat logs with other users. That's to be expected. People discuss board policy, and Star Trek, and real estate, and recipes, and sex, and stupid assholes, and trolls, and everything else in chat because it's convenient, it's immediate, and contrary to what people seem to think, it's fun.

And you know, as a former mod (and a current member of the staff), I appreciate that people want to jump to the mods' defense and tell accused-jerks to back off. But nobody is shrieking about anything. The people who are in charge here don't want to be kowtowed to. Jim is very open about the fact that he wants suggestions and criticism, and CRSP has never shied away from board policy either being discussed, criticized, or lambasted.
I'm still swimming in harmony. I'm still dreaming of flight. I'm still lost in the waves night after night...

We're lucky to get any of CRSP's time at all. Most of the time it seems like he's shied away completely.

Okay, I would like to take this opportunity to clarify that the night we discussed stupid assholes as they related to dogs, I was passing a kidney stone and on large amounts of opiates. Anything I may have mentioned, even if true, should be considered to be written under duress. And lots of really good drugs.

Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

I think the chat is fucking retarded and adults arguing over it are an order of magnitude even more retarded.

Alright, I am sick to my back teeth of this.

McNutty, I have the following proposal for you:

Engage with us honestly, without snark, and we will do the same for you. If you read something that we say that you need clarified, ask us about it in a civil tone, and we will do the same for you. If we ask you a question in good faith, try to be fair and calm and reasonable in your response, and we will do the same for you.

If you cannot or will not agree to this, then leave us the fuck alone, and we will do the same for you.
everything in nature is sort of gross when you look at it too closely. what is an apple? basically the uterus of a tree - terrifel

You have a deal. This will be a challenge for me, given that sarcasm is pretty much my only rhetorical skill, but we'll see what I can muster. (Note: in case you think that was sarcasm, it was not. I don't actually think it's my only rhetorical skill, but it's obviously a trusty standby)

For what it's worth, my sarcasm towards you guys is almost entirely non-hostile. It's adversarial, sure, but not hostile. I think we mostly just read each other wrong. The example windsock up there presented of Excalibur being sarcastic to featherlou is a good one: I, too, was annoyed at how unnecessarily nasty Excalibur was to featherlou back when that thread was going on, but in retrospect, I bet he didn't mean anything more by it than I meant by my hilariously (to me) sarcastic observation in the chat log from the OP: the sarcasm was used to make a point. Yeah, it's a biting point, but it doesn't betray actual animosity. That's not to say there is no animosity, but at least in my case, the sarcasm wasn't a product of it.

But that's all beside the point. I get it: you and I and Excalibur are not going to be able to snark on one another without taking it personally and bringing it up a notch, so we should just cut it out. I can abide by that. I would personally like it if we could still actually disagree on things without going at each others' throats -- I don't want to refrain from participating in threads simply because you guys are in them. As part of this bargain, Excalibur is going to need to stop claiming I'm being "dishonest" whenever I disagree with him. If he can't present an argument any stronger than a claim that I'm lying about what I really think, he's doing nothing but sniping and namecalling.

Believe it or not, people who can't stand each other can actually argue with one another civilly. Let's do that.
