I would include a warning there that (unless it's been fixed) there's nothing to stop someone from posting NSFW pictures in chat, so if a troll wants to be obnoxious, you can get in trouble if you have a chat window open at work.

This is true of the forums as well (in fact, we have had quite an influx of tubgirl pics posted on the boards). Anyone with who has been on the internets for ten minutes will know that if you browse from work, you take the risk.Originally posted by Truth and Beauty
everything in nature is sort of gross when you look at it too closely. what is an apple? basically the uterus of a tree - terrifel
eta: Like Excalibur did yesterday or leander did just now. I'm definitely not viewing the chat window from work anymore.
P.S. Myrnalene: The chat window does show up on the default front page, which makes it more of a problem.
T&B, frontal bikini shots are not typically NSFW. I am sorry if your location is tougher, but workplaces do vary and I am already erring more to the side of safety. There was no nudity today, just rolls of fat.Originally posted by Truth and Beauty
ETA: If you want to continue this, I will split the thread off for you. Let me know.
This is not the appopriate place to complain about chat, especially since I just addressed your proposed addition to the FAQ.Originally posted by Truth and Beauty

What Exit?, so you're saying that a picture like what leander posted in Chat right now is SFW and OK to post at the board? All right then.
Myrnalene - a thread open to discuss proposed chat guidelines is not the place to discuss what's appropriate in Chat? That is a bizarre position to take.
I have no idea where you got the idea that this is the purpose of this thread. It is meant to provide a place to answer the techicial questions that often come up in chat. If you want thread discussing proposed guidelines, you start one.Originally posted by Truth and Beauty

Thanks antigonos. I'll look into that. Does this mean that, if I wanted to have a chat window open without images, I would have to stop images from being shown in other threads in a different browser window?
Technical question: would it be possible to turn off image posting in chat altogether? If it becomes a problem?
Yes, it was very strange to assume that a thread whose OP was about how chat works to think that, in that thread, it was OK to discuss the chatroom. How could I have been so stupid?Originally posted by Myrnalene
Now that I understand your restrictions (I love it when posters put all sorts of rules in their threads - you can discuss X, but not Y!) I will stick to them.It is meant to provide a place to answer the techicial questions that often come up in chat. If you want thread discussing proposed guidelines, you start one.
What Exit?, the question remains - are you agreeing with Myrnalene and leander that the picture leander posted in chat is a SFW picture that is OK to have appear on the front page at Domebo, or in a thread at Domebo? It seems pretty clear to me that you are.
For the benefit of those playing along at home, this is the picture being dicussed.

Yeah, that's the one. It's OK to post those types of pictures in theads without a NSFW caution?
Yes, that appears to be SFW. But pictures are also suppose to be in context. Random out of context pictures are trolling or threadshitting. Also if a lot of pictures are posted to a thread (over 10 as a rough estimate) the title of the thread should indicate such. As an example, a Michael Jackson thread might have a few pictures of him but should not have a picture of the fat bikini team or a drama llama tossed in.Originally posted by Truth and Beauty
[modhat:2tkjjck0]Please keep your questions to this thread and not the FAQ, I split and merged your last one to the FAQ.[/modhat:2tkjjck0]
Truth and Beauty, can you explain what about the image you think is NSFW? I am not saying it is tasteful. I am saying I think a girl in a bathing suit should not be a problem (even if she is so fat that you see a lot more belly than you would on a thin girl). I move that if that image would cause an issue in your workplace, then your workplace in unusually strict and the onus is on you to disable images, not on the mods to place higher restrictions on chat.

Wut? We post random images in chat all the time. Octopuses, baby elephants, kitties, old men with sideburns, pics of Christoper Columbus. Can you clarify this, please?Originally posted by What Exit?

T&B asked about threads, not chat (though T&B might have very well meant chat). I assumed that's what What Exit? was answering.
I'm still swimming in harmony. I'm still dreaming of flight. I'm still lost in the waves night after night...

Correct and to expand on it, random and out of context could define chat. :wink:Originally posted by pepperlandgirl
So in a thread, if someone posts out of context pictures, that's trolling. OK then.Originally posted by What Exit?
Right after leander posted it, What Exit? said in chat "I can't see that picture, it's blocked for me." What Exit?, does your workplace have unusually strict policies?Originally posted by Myrnalene
Myrnalene, I just disagree with you that a picture such as that is acceptable for display on the front page. It's a trolling picture, a picture people post to mock fat people, and at the limits of what is SFW.
We block by sites, not direct context.Originally posted by Truth and Beauty
So you're saying that your workplace has determined that, in general, pictures from that site are not work safe. Is your workplace unusually strict?
So much offends you, T&B. I don't think you belong here. The internet, that is.
