    Default Tensions in the Caucasus

Georgia's just put down an army mutiny and stopped a suspected plot to kill the Prime Minister, which they initially claimed was being funded by Russia. Nato's currently on a series of exercises in Georgia. Two Russian diplomats have been expelled from Nato after being accused of spying, and in retaliation, Russia has sent home two Canadian diplomats from Moscow.

The OP reads like the dust jacket blurb from some new, particularly uninspired Tom Clancy book. Only it's real.

I was astonished at how easily the Russian empire fell apart. I'm not astonished that Russia is trying to put it back together.

Meh, I think it's just more of Russia's penchant for cloak-and-daggering. It'll blow over in a few days when Russia get's a tax cut/increase in whatever the hell it has it's eyes on.
