    Wink How would the credits read in this situation

    How would it be described if:

    John Smith created the characters in a movie
    Tom Johnson (with John's input) wrote the screenplay

    I don't think John's input, as such, would be credited unless he actually cowrote the screenplay. Here are some examples:
