Default Why do spammers join up and not post?

There's a few names in the members list that are almost certainly spammers (e.g. FreePornMovies), yet haven't made a post. Why is this? Surely they've done the hardest part by managing to negotiate the registration procedure, only to fail to actually post any spam.

(Not that this is intended as an encouragement to spam - I'm just curious why these spammers are joining but not posting)

CRSP and McNutty are better able to address this question-can spambots use non firewall protected ISPs to resend their malware?

There was also that spammer that you banned, TheFlame, which was then restricted to Room 101 and unbanned. There hasn't been a peep out of it.

That one was the exception in that it managed to post (several times) before I put a stop to it. I guess the process of banning, restricting and unbanning was probably enough to stop it succeeding again.

They're probably just waiting to be given the go-ahead to start a co-ordinated spam attack. Also, they some of them get their spam username in the members list, where it's picked up by search engines.
