Ben Stiller is best when he’s playing a character, somebody over the top, like Derek Zoolander or White Goodman from Dodgeball. When he’s just playing “Ben Stiller” in a movie, like in Mary, or Meet the Parents, or Along Came Polly, he’s worse than putridly unfunny.
    To bolster your argument here:

Ben Stiller does a great job in the horrible movie Heavyweights. His performance, both as his character and as his characters father, (made funnier by the fact that his real life father is in the film) almost make the movie worth watching.

He's also at his absolute best as the orderly in Happy Gilmore.

Don't forget his character as the guy who gets outrageously mad at everyrthing on "Friends."

Except for posts 28 & 29 just above yours.

Silenus has an excuse though. As he told me, "Honest... I ran out of gas. I, I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake. A terrible flood. Locusts. IT WASN'T MY FAULT, I SWEAR TO GOD."
It wasn't lies, it was just . . . bullshit.

The funniest movie for me is a tough call, but I'm going to have to go with The Blues Brothers or The Big Lebowski. There's something about the Little Lebowski Urban Achievers and hating the fucking Eagles, man, and not being fatuous that slays me every time. I have a horrible memory for quotes, and The Big Lebowski and The Blues Brothers are two of the very few movies I can quote, simply because they are so funny on repeated viewings.

To expand on my earlier post (voting for Airplane)...

I watched again recently, not having seen it for many years. Going in, I expected a smile or two, but not all that much, since so many lines get quoted so frequently on message boards and have become such comedy staples. I figured it would be like listening to a couple of hours of repeated cliches.

I laughed myself silly, all over again.

The later Zucker/Abrahams movies (and later parody movies in general) frequently broke the fourth wall with characters reacting to the jokes, but Airplane is done almost 100% deadpan from beginning to end, which to me made it ten times funnier.

Although just thinking of the "My Little Buttercup" sequence from Three Amigos will make me giggle like a little kid.
No cage, thank you. I'm a human being.

I keep thinking about that movie in this thread too, although I wouldn't ever label it as the funniest movie ever made.

    "Which one do you like?"
"I like the one that is not so smart."
    (confused) "Which one is that?"

    and the beautiful timing and delivery of;

"Could it be, El Guapo, that once again you are angry about something else, and are seeking to take it out on me?"

(Why Yes, I do have a Plethora!)

and to cheerfully ignore things that bug the shit out of you.
    I am not you.

Don't get me started quoting Three Amigos!

"You could get yourself a casa on the mesa. I can see it now, with all your little bambinos running in the yard!"

    "The infamous El Guapo? Infamous?"

Write-in vote for Arsenic and Old Lace. The sweet old aunts absolutely slay me.

Mortimer: You didn't want the reverend to see the body?
Aunt Abby: Well, not at tea. That wouldn't have been very nice.

    *****

Mortimer: But there's a body in the window seat!
Aunt Abby: Yes, dear, we know.
    Mortimer: You know?
    Aunt Martha: Of course!
Aunt Abby: Yes, but it has nothing to do with Teddy. Now, Mortimer, you just forget about it. Forget you ever saw the gentleman.
    Mortimer: Forget?
Aunt Abby: We never dreamed you'd peek.
    Mortimer: What the...?

    *****

Aunt Abby: Are you leaving, Dr. Einstein?
    Dr. Einstein: Yes, please.
