Default What would you call the stuff we do here?

What I mean is, what is the general term for the games played on this board, like the Mafia Games, Diplomacy, word puzzles and my own attempt at a game. My first thought was online games, but I want a term that makes it clear that I am not talking about WoW or any Flash games and their ilk.

Bonus points if it looks good on a resume. Oh, and need answer ASAP.

Games like Mafia are role plays. Dunno if there's an over-arching name for all of those, though.

Mafia isn't really a role playing game. There is no assumption of a different persona (well, there is no need to). It's closer to poker than Dungeons and Dragons.

Sure it is. It's not as elaborate as D&D, but players do take on roles: mafia, townsperson, vigilante, etc. The personas are not necessarily very different from the player's real personality, but the player is presumably not actually a mafia member in real life. Heck, it even has a Narrator/DM. Perhaps calling it a role-play is misleading as it's not what people usually think of when they read RP. However, I think it falls under that umbrella.

FWIW, my RL buddies always say I'm "playing on my blog site" whenever I talk about playing Mafia or posting to the boards.

I usually describe them as "text based games."
So now they are just dirt-covered English people in fur pelts with credit cards.

To add to Caerie's comment, maybe text based strategy games set in fully crafted worlds. (this sounds resume-ey to me)
They weren't singing....they were just honking.

Thanks guys, you've all been very helpful. I will sleep on which sounds the most resumesque, but for now I've got "Online text-based strategy games".

Now I just need to practice explaining what a Mafia variant is in case the interviewer asks me

Might I ask what job could possibly hire someone based on their online mafia experience?

A lot of jobs I'll be applying for favour analytical skills above all else. Mentioning these hobbies has to count for a mild plus, if only because it makes me seem more interesting.

Again, only FWIW, but my buddies say it makes me a complete and total weirdo. YMMV.

There is that possibility. There is also the fact that half of these companies specifically say do not include hobbies in your CV, so the whole thing may be moot.

Still, it's been a good exercise in BS. How to dress up "chatted on internet all day"...
