Discovered while trawling through Joan Baez clips. This is now my favourite version although I did find it a bit odd in the beginning.

Sonata Arctica, .
Sometimes I just want to run. To take off into the night and let my paws carry me where they will, lost in the moment as the wind whips past, to leap and bound and be wild and free, to never look back and to stop only long enough to howl at the moon…

(4th May, 2009) ATC (A Touch of Class) "Around the World (La La La La La)" ( )
Aside from being overly fond of parentheses, it's kind of a strange band: all of them are from different countries, with the two guys being from New Zealand and England, the brunette from Italy, and the blonde from Australia, but the group was based in Germany. Also, that video on YouTube is really high quality (if you hit that button). I've never seen one like that before.
The song was covered by the group beFour, also a two-guy/two-girl band (they pretty much came out of the same tin), as " ", with completely different lyrics. So if it doesn't get stuck in your head with one, it will with the other.

Sweet, delicious hair metal. With talkbox (I want one so bad, even though I blow at guitar). Chosen because of the chorus - 3 exams down, 3 to go.

Nice to find this on YouTube. Had a truncated mp3 for ages but managed to lose it a year or so ago. Bought her album but this isn't on it and the other songs don't quite measure up.

Catching up with this thread (after a whole month of songs). I'm skipping some of them that are particularly well-known or I didn't have much opinion on:
I didn't enjoy this at all; much too dark for my liking.Originally posted by NAF1138
(April 13) - The link didn't work in the UK but I found . This gets off to a really good start and is overall an above-average electro-pop song. There's something about it though that means I don't like it as much as I might (yeah, I know that's not very specific!)Originally posted by Taumpy Tearrs
(April 14) - Haven't heard anything quite like this before - a sort of operatic pop. It was pleasant enough.Originally posted by Myglaren
This one was impressive . An excellent performance.Originally posted by Myglaren
(April 17) More straightforwardly 'pop' than the previous two, but another very good female singer. I'd like to hear the studio recording of this without the crowd noise and slight distortion in the background (though this is much better than some live recordings on Youtube).Originally posted by Myglaren
This is mine. One of the best pop songs I've heard in a good long time, somehow virtually unknown.Originally posted by TheFlame
I like the song, not so sure about his singing (it might just be the performance rather then the track, but in general I have a dislike for 'husky' male vocalists)Originally posted by Myglaren

AFAIK Elisa's "Redemption Song" isn't available on disc. If it were, I would have it in an instant, as with Vanessa Paradis' "La Minute De Silence".

Always loved the bass line on this song, especially in the chorus. It was one of the few 80s hair metal songs with any kind of memorable bass part.Originally posted by Darth Sensitive

Yeah, they aren't well represented on YouTube or Last.fm unfortuantly. Not everything of theirs is so dark, but that album was specifically about loss and lonleiness so you get some farily dark stuff going on. Give it a second chance, it will grow on you.Originally posted by TheFlame

The Twelve Girls Band
A departure from their usual format. Although there are 13 girls, only 12 take the stage at any one time but here there are 17 and in an even greater departure the new ones are playing violins where previously the only (visible) instruments played were traditional Chinese ones.
They do use a guitar, drums and a midi track quite often, the guitar and drums are rarely visible. A shame and completely superfluous IMO.

(17th May, 2009) Dhany "Miles of Love" ( )
Dhany is an Italian singer I found out about on Pandora Radio. The song it actually recommended was " " (I could only find this version, half in Italian, on YouTube), but I think this one is better.

Vanessa-Mae,
A lovely and remarkably talented young woman. Although she chooses to play predominantly crossover she is still a more than able classicist.
The first time I saw her she was playing her "glass" violin at an outdoor concert with a kind of jetty that reached out from the stage and into the audience, she was dancing and twirling down the jetty and back whilst playing far more ably than most can manage standing still.
The Guadagnini she is playing there was bought for her by her parents for £150,000. What an investment.

A massively expensive video that is very typical of her - she often plays two characters and at least one of them generally ends up dead.

An exquisite harpist. Her playing (here anyway) is so delicate and refined, she is so serene but so energised, if that isn't too contradictory.
In other performances she can really give it some welly, something I have never associated with harp music before.
The outstanding thing is her wonderful smile. She is such a beauty and the smile just lights her up. The pleasure she has in her playing is there for all to see.

Saw her live a couple of years ago and she was epic.
Despite being ill she was so energetic she wore the audience out, unlike James Blunt, who opened for her.
Met her afterward and despite her scary stage persona she is absolutely lovely, very charming and friendly.
