    True; I grew up in a mixed-culture household, but shoes in the house were a definite no-no thanks to the Asian side. Now that I'm an adult, I choose not to wear shoes in the house, but don't inflict it on guests.

    Hey, I've read...(consults Goodreads)...three non-Dune Herbert books, and all three were outstanding!

    Not only did I watch that miniseries, I watched the subsequent Dune Messiah/Children of Dune miniseries starring a young (and not yet famous) James McAvoy as Leto Jr.

    TNP has read a Tolkien outside of the Hobbit and LotR books.

    I haven't read The White Plague, but I really enjoyed Whipping Star, The Dosadi Experiment, and especially Destination: Void.

    True, regarding Shakespeare. Always hated being forced to read him in high school, but I've come around. Maybe 14 is too young to force the Bard on the average - or even the above-average, as I was - English student.
