Sort of. I learned that a beautiful old house not far from where I grew up is now for sale. Photos of the interior (including beautiful tilework in the bathrooms, and a garden lane in back) are posted online. I've been by the house a zillion times and never knew until now what it looked like inside and in back; it's a little odd to think of the tiling and garden lane having been there all along, almost waiting for me to see them (but not really).

TNP wants to live in a beautiful old house.

It depends on (a) where it is and (b) how much effort is required to keep it from falling down. Probably a cave in the middle of nowhere suits me better, with some luscious raven-haired Spanish ladies in a town a stone's throw away where they all live and make tequila and harvest fruits of the sea and delicacies of the plains and come when I blow a high-pitched whistle inaudible to all men.

TNP's back is killing them lately.

I've had a few twinges, but no, my back has been OK.

TNP has learned something about Hannibal Hamlin lately.

No, other than that there was somebody named that who did something, I don't know who the fuck that is.

TNP thinks the 19th C craze of naming people things like Ulysses, Hannibal, and other things from the classical world was pretty awesome.

Oh, definitely, although I wonder if it got some little boys with big names beaten up on school playgrounds. Some other good examples:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonidas_Polk
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpheus_S._Williams
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lysander_Cutler

And behold, Lincoln's first Vice President, who would probably've been a much better President than Andrew Johnson had he not been dropped from the ticket in 1864: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hannibal_Hamlin

TNP has a classical Greek name in mind for his or her child.

No. In ten or fifteen years when I allow a young cow to produce for me, I think something like "Mack" or "Butch" or "Rocky" would be a better idea. Although I can't imagine anyone named Achilles or Hector or Virgil or Julius or Hannibal taking much guff. Never name a boy something like Narcissus or Pygmalion or something unless you're a sick fuck.

TNP has witnessed recently a stupid conversation, for example, between a tw**k, a dried-out old cu**, and a fat slob.

Yeah, I'm sure any woman who might otherwise be willing to bear a child for you will appreciate being called a "young cow."

at least I didn't say old cow -- and everyone likes cows! well, the French do, anyway. and i think cows are sexy.

Yeah, I guess -- this fucking nicotine gum is not SUPPOSED to be minty, but there's a minty residue that angers me.

TNP had or will soon have a nice little weekend out of town.

Yes, over Easter weekend, I was in Washington visiting my son. Had a great time, including seeing the cherry blossoms along the Potomac for the first time in person.

I am TNP and I love spring flowers and blooms. Finally emerging from the cave. Everything from November through March is bullshit, at least where I live now.

Very easily. I'd make do with Myspace. No, it's not a good idea to be on Facebook for anyone, unless one is prepared to shamelessly ignore friend requests on occasion and scrupulously pare one's audience to only those who either don't read one's "updates," or who presumably enjoy hearing blue language, anti-nipponese sentiments, and other occasional bullshit.

TNP thinks people with children are pretty much lame, in general -- exceptions make the rule, of course.

No. People with children are no more or less lame than those without (although, the younger the kids, the harder it can be to get their parents to go out at night for a drink, dinner, movie, etc.).

TNP will go out to the movies tonight.

No, I might be movied-out for a while. I'm hooked into looking at novels for the moment, but haven't found one that expresses the idea: "children and parents: equally lame as child-free, but more."

TNP knew that a contemporary nickname for James Buchanan was "Miss Nancy."

I did. I've read a lot about the Presidency.

I had no idea. Compared to the rest of the Victorian Era US presidents, Lincoln is starting to stand out to me as an admirable man.

TNP thinks the motley character of Victorian Era US Presidents describes pretty well the way Americans today think of themselves. Some of this, some of that, try this, try that.

Not only that, I have had seven and a half beers, one bottle of wine, and six ounces of wine, per my friends at the NIH.

EEETA this is stupid: TNP can name all seven uniformed services of the United States, and will do so without cheating. EETA This is stupid: ETA bonus points for naming a good movie featuring one of the uniformed officers as hero.. TNP remembers the first time he or she heard .

I think I can name all seven uniformed branches:

    1. Army
    2. Navy
    3. Air Force
    4. Marines
    5. Coast Guard
    6. Public Health Service
    7. NOAA

    Right?

And nope, never heard that bit of jazz before.

TNP knows someone in at least three of the aforementioned branches.

No. I know one for sure in PHS, but the others I know have hung up their sabers or whatever. Wait, I know a guy who teaches at West Point, but he's not military, and someone who works for the VA, but also civilian.

TNP thinks exposing errors of thought (on the side of semantics, so, errors of interpretation of the world, I would say -- syntactic errors of logic are not very interesting, in my opinion) is a pretty constructive way to spend a few hours.

And that turned out to be fifteen beers, one bottle of wine, and six ounces of wine -- I blame EH for mentioning beer, it really piqued my thirst. Recomputing: 14.5% alcohol 25.36 = 6.2 + 12% =1.6+15=22.8 drinks. Should have stuck to Budweiser American Ale. At the least that explains why I was digging out the Horace Silver.

I'll say... yes. I'm naturally inclined to be nitpicker and critical of others, but try to choose my battles wisely, and strive always to be tactful.

TNP watched the season premiere of Game of Thrones last night.

Yeah, I should probably do a walk of shame. *Game of Thrones*, *Deadwood*, and ...that zombie thing .....*Walking Dead*. I assume those are all well-reviewed, because I've heard of them, I guess. No one whom I know personally recommended them, though. On the "good" pile, let's put *Soap*..........the post-Rigg *Avengers* and the last zillion seasons of *WKRP* I didn't get a chance to see. Never going to happen, but that's a true. I'll probably go Orson Welles on some of those someday.

TNP has learned the most about life during periods where he or she was ripped off, lied to, coerced, conned. In fact, for this poster, he or she has learned the most by being conned/ripped-off/deceived, and is the wiser for it, one thinks. But stick to TNP. And ETA I'm slow -- not Frederic Forrest slow, but, still, it took me a while to figure it out.

I was made for awkward teen romances. Seventh, Eight Grade, I was a wanna-be poon hound, and I didn't know how to do it -- I had to figure it out and failed miserably.

TNP thinks women make terrible bartenders -- too incompetent, too childish, and not serious enough -- I go into a bar, I want Wifi, a pool table, good conversation from other degenerates, and a bartender who just fills it up. Except lesbians -- they make good bartenders.

Nope. I did begrudgingly pop in my earplugs when a relative newcomer to the "family room" at the pediatric hospital turned on the TV. Jesus fucking Christ, lady, I know your kid probably is going to die, but really? You're going to watch TV ad? Well, not my place to judge. But me being a fancy uncle in charge of two nephews, ages one and three, at least had the forethought to bring some sheet music (Bach's e-minor Partita, torn out of the Bischoff edition for just such an occasion) and a book or three and play some "radio" in my head. Also, it was good for the three-year-old to see, "hey, writing is weird, there's some English there, some round dots there, some German, some Italian, WTF? Big mystery! Let's play checkers." We had a ball -- four hours just seeing the sights, riding the elevators (no music), him telling me what the younger one wants. To quote the motion picture *Blue Velvet*, "It's a strange world."

TNP's family is going to be OK, and that's just great for now, and is glad to have a family.

No, thought it might this morning, but it's turning out to be a pretty nice, mild day. Or maybe you were speaking of the dark rains of the soul, in honor of St. John of the Cross on Sunday.

TNP doesn't really believe in apologies -- rather, just do better next time.

ETA I think I was wrong about that lady -- she was right to turn on the TV. Doesn't mean I have to like it, but she was correct.

Skeptical that apologies do anything more than make the malfeasor feel righteous -- affirm I do that except in cases of diplomacy, where the act is done pro forma, the ruse isn't seen right through as self-serving deflection from one's error, and a shameful attempt to socially-engineer bending someone to one's purposes. No, I can't see any cats from here -- I did see a crow carrying a big orange object in its maw, though. Could have been a kitten, I suppose.

TNP doesn't think women who dress up as sexy kitties for Halloween (or....for whatever other reasons) are amusing at all.

Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure I do that every time I see a cat. "[eta insert meow sound -- reeaoorgh?]! Hey kitty! [eta holds out finger and approaches its level]" Still doesn't mean cat's are sexy, unless you find reeking litterboxes and analingus a turn-on. Cows, on the other hand, are pretty sexy. They stand there, let you milk them, have pretty eyes, and I'm pretty sure you could fuck one if you were from Australia.

TNP thinks it's absolutely insane, but irresistable, to suggest that there be answers for why one has the psychological qualities one does. Behavior, sure, that's a reasonable area of investigation for the inquiring mind, but everything else is a ridiculous waste of time.TNP is genuinely displeased by many daily actions of his or her fellow citizens, but thinks it's possible to live happily among the insane idiocy of automobile culture, suburban dipshittery, rank displays of "non-conforming individualism," etc. despite constant exposure to the vile stench of incorrect behavior.TNP always kneels down to pet or kid level, for some reason.
