Kind of. Not on the U.S. West Coast, but I had a great week or so with my parents in Hawaii back in 1987. Loved it, and would love to go back someday.

    TNP has been to Hawaii.

Never have. Maybe this makes me a bad American, but I have no interest in visiting Hawaii -- I don't like sun much, I don't surf, and I'm not a huge fan of smoking grass. The music is good, though! And the language is very pleasing to the ear, I find. Plus, being a fatass, I'd probably fit right in.

TNP has done a fucking PITA strenuous uphill hike recently.

It doesn't make you a bad American, not in the least. There's no requirement that you go anywhere, after all (although I personally think every American ought to see Washington, D.C., NYC and the Grand Canyon at least once).

No, no such hikes by me recently.

TNP has been to Washington, D.C., NYC and the Grand Canyon at least once.

No I lived in NYC for about four or five years, but when in NYC, there's a strong impulse to just stay in your own neighborhood. I made frequent excursions up to central park to escape the hustle and bustle, read, and of course when out-of-towners came to visit, I'd show them the sights. Never been to the Statue of Liberty.

TNP has a yen for travel in his or her dotage.

Yes, as a matter of fact, I've been thinking of that. Maybe once all the boys are out on their own. First up: Australia, Russia and Japan. And maybe a safari in Africa. Ooo, and the pyramids in Egypt.

TNP wants to see the pyramids in person someday - or has already.

Not really -- pictures of Giza is close enough for me. I could do with seeing a nice Ziggurat, though.

TNP enjoys getting to the backcountry and is a fiend for beautiful scenery.

Fishing, yes. Boring. If I'm going to be sitting by a lake or in a boat just floating there, I'd rather be reading.

TNP has read a great book recently.

Well, in the process of rereading Peter Simons's *Parts* and yet again just skimming for some deets from Burgess, Boolos, and Jeffries. I suppose that's close enough.

    TNP despises his mother.

Not so much -- he's a pretty chilled-out guy in his early 60s. And my mother might be my closest friend I've got -- she can be exasperating, and I just plain don't like her way of riding my ass for perceived indiscretions. Difficult to deal with. Thank god I really don't "have" to deal with her, except by choice and so forth.

TNP hasn't been getting a lot of good sleep recently.

False. I had the chance to sleep in yesterday AND today, which is rare (and treasured).

TNP needs at least seven hours of sleep a night to feel halfway human.

    Yes. Yes, I could.

I just saw The Matrix with my teenage son. He liked it, and I enjoyed it all over again. Clever and stylish, with great action sequences.

Just like me, TNP likes hot dogs with melted cheese and ketchup.

Probably not *just* like you, but the cheese is good and so is the catsup.

No, not particularly. I probably eat more hot dogs as an adult than I did as a kid (and I hate corndogs).

    TNP loves corndogs.

And, yes, "good corndog" doesn't really exist -- it's just called "corndog," preferably served by a young lady with a blouse full of goodies ETA that's what makes 'em good

Yes, we have a lot of songbirds in our neighborhood. It's especially nice to hear them in the morning.

She could look this, https://www.victoriassecret.com/swim...AR-_-LU-293998, and the corndog would still suck.

TNP knows someone who would fit in that swimsuit very well indeed.

Exactly the amount I wish -- usually wrong, but it makes the small victories stand out. ETA: I should amplify that in "my" field, something is either right or it isn't -- but most things a non-mongo can figure out are at least half-right. So, true, but I like it.

TNP really enjoys TRYING to do stuff beyond his or her abilities.

No, although I know people for whom their pets are obviously surrogate children, and who spend IMHO 'way too much time talking about or playing with their critters.

Yeah, there was a girl in college that I realized, too late, was almost certainly interested in me. Gail had a nerdy adorableness to her that I still think of now and then.

What the hell, it's Independence Day, I'll do 'em both!

No, with few exceptions, I tend not to hang onto the past. I'm more interested in my own future than my past (although I love history).

And yes, I have heard someone say "critter," and it is indeed a real word: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/critter?s=t

TNP is an American and will be celebrating Independence Day today, huzzah!

Fuck yeah. Surprising I crawled out of my cave and returned yet again to the coast for an extended family weekend. Sunburned, scarred, muscles sore from hauling hundreds of pounds of driftwood, covered in sand, possible rib fracture, haven't showered in weeks. Hi family! Welcome to America! Eat at arbys or whatever.

TNP has ever, or recently, either broken the arm of someone's favorite chair, or heard of someone who's done that. Literally.

No OK, the frowny face is a bit morbid. Wait, I think I've seen some grisly car-crashes ("blood on the pavement"), but not right beside me. Sorry if that was the situation with either of your parents -- that doesn't sound like fun, no matter the person.

No, I tend to let them go. I might not ever be as friendly with that person again - I remain kind of guarded - but I just don't have the energy to maintain hate of a particular individual for all that long.

Anything with non-candy or non-candied chunks of fruit in it. I find that upsetting. I don't eat icecream very often at all, though. Maybe bubblegum flavor is pretty bad.

Sort of. I like the old Ad usum delphini annotated (in Latin) of Latin "classics" -- for the use of (a) young prince! I haven't seen those on Gutenberg, but they';re around and IMHO are the best way to learn Latin -- because the notes are actually in simplified (but correct) Latin designed for the use of children, printed in the margins of real texts, like from Virgil, Lucan, Caesar, and so forth.

TNP knew at one specific time that he or she would have/never would like to have children.

No. I'm no Goth or artiste, I just prefer to stay in the background of things. With the exception of a bright red long-sleeve T shirt I'm pretty fond of.

TNP is wearing "summer gear" right now, like shorts, a floral print shirt, and sneakers -- good enough for me this evening.
