Welcome back! I've done Nock's weight ... Nock 3' 10" 89 lbs (sedentary lifestyle) and the party won their first combat.

Do look at post 244 in the game thread, where Elros summarises what each character should be thinking about.

    Hey, gang -

This week is going to be insane at work, so assume Marion's generally staying out of the way unless there's something to be smote, I guess.

Picture the scene as an elderly gentleman with a handlebar moustache, reading his Daily Telegraph and sipping his gin and tonic, reads this comment.

"Phwaaagh! Blighter doesn't know what he's on about! This is an English setting, by golly - and no Frenchie pipsqeak comic chappie* is going to feature. Actually this Ogre reminds me of a pupil at my school - any resemblance to anyone else is pure coincidence!"

Honestly, it really is a coincidence!
Even the Wild Boar meat only got in because I remembered a Rowan Atkinson sketch (about Gerald the Gorilla). So I thought how the Wild Boar felt on being attacked : "Wild? I was livid!"

I hope I haven't upset anyone with my rather lavatorial descriptions in the game thread.
    I wanted to:

    - convey a sense of disgust at the despicable behaviour of these monsters
    - reference the humour of Austin Powers

Hopefully this sort of stuff will be swept under the carpet (so to speak).

Hey, as some of you may or may not know, my grandfather has been very sick for the past couple of months. Friday he passed away peacefully after his short struggle with cancer. I am going to be away until Tuesday at the soonest doing family stuff, I might not be around again until Wednesday. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

Just to explain the pause in the game.

NAF1138 has returned (welcome back, and I hope everything went with dignity.)

I'll still wait for SisterCoyote (as her character Marion could be in the front line in a rather dangerous combat...)

I've got a tricky decision, because my next post is the combat and Marion is a key part of it.
Unfortunately sistercoyote hasn't posted on Domebo for a week (and no reply to my PM) and I don't want the game to stall.

I hope I'm doing the right thing by continuing the adventure later today - unless anyone feels strongly otherwise.

I'll PM sister coyote on Giraffe's boards, she might have forgotten she was in this game. I seem to recall her saying that her life was going to be temporarily complicated.

    Most kind.
(I could go on without Marion for a bit, but she's an interesting character - as are all the party! )

Now it looks as if sadly Julie is not going to play Finn the Druid (though she is very helpfully hosting all the maps ). Of course she is welcome back anytime.

I did offer the role to any reserves first, but now I feel I can offer it to an existing player. (What Exit? is kindly allowing me to play two characters in one of his campaigns and I'm looking forward to that! )

So if anyone would like to play the Druid, do let me know.
(In case of a mad rush , preference will be given to posters whose schedule lets them post more often...)

Here's an outline - if you want to see the full character before deciding, just let me know:

Finn is looking happier as all the useful party abilities are revealed.
"I am your healer! I can Cure Wounds and also use Goodberries. Oh, these berries can alternatively provide nourishing meals.
I can both Detect Magic and Identify it.
I can Speak to Animals, including Giant ones. They won't attack while the spell lasts - but no guarantees afterwards!
I speak Crow naturally and have two Crow allies who will scout for us (but not fight, except to defend me).
If needed, I can Entangle opponents with sufficient vegetation and blat them with Summoned Insects.
    I'm only so-so at combat."
He stops, slightly out of breath.

Just for the record, I will share this bit of my gaming history:

We were playing in an Al-Qadim game, as a group of servants of the Caliph. We had been sent out on god only knows what mission, but at the end of it we determined that we had a sword that would allow us to control all forms of elementals, which just happened to be a Very Evil Artifact. It could not be destroyed using any natural element. Nonetheless, we were in agreement that it needed to be destroyed. Our fighter, who had a dex of 8 and an int of 6, said, "We need to take it back to the Caliph. It can be destroyed in the Palace."

"Hakim, we just spent the last twenty minutes trying to figure out how to destroy something immune to the elements. What's the Caliph going to do with it?"

    "The Caliph has elephants."

OOC: I'm really sorry, everyone, that I haven't been around much. My boss is psychotic, I may lose my job soon, and one of the ways I handle stress is to not handle it or anything else, so I start to fall down on my responsibilities. I'll try to check in daily from here on out but if you haven't heard from me in two or three days, please give me a good hard poke or something.

    I like that story!
I really enjoy Al-Qadim too - I've been playing a Sharia for over a decade (although I haven't met any elephants yet ).

P.S. Please could I ask you a favour - would you mind arranging for a Moderator (e.g. What Exit?) to remove the OOC bit of your post 355 in the game thread?
Of course it was important news, but it jars with the fantasy storyline...

The village is named after Queen Edith (wife of King Edward the Confessor, who ruled England 1042-1066).

Here is a small plea for assistance:

    - I haven't heard from Caerie (I've sent her a PM). Can anyone get in touch to see what she wants to do?
    - if you know anyone who would like to join in, do get them to contact me. It's more fun with players (though I don't mind playing characters)
    - would any existing player like to play Finn the Druid? (It would be on the understanding that Julie could come back if she wanted to)
