Default Sad day for Detroit Sports

Chuck Daly, former championship coach of the Detroit Pistons, has been diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

And Colleen Howe, wife of Mr. Hockey, died today of Pick's disease.

I always hated Daly back in the late 80s and early 90s. Hated him, that is, in the genial, smiling way of a fan of another team who detested his hard-nosed, defensively stifling, fundamentally sound and frequently unbeatable Pistons.

He was also the coach of the original (and still unmatched) U.S. Men's Olympic basketball Dream Team.

    Best of luck, Coach Daly.

When I read this, it saddened me greatly. My thoughts and prayers to him and his familia.

When I read the title, I thought, "Isn't every day a sad day for Detroit Sports?"

Sorry to hear about Chuck Daly. Pancreatic cancer is not good. And there is no stage 5. Sad day indeed.

Sorry too to hear of Mr. Hockey's wife dying as well. I met Gordie Howe and had a picture taken with him. A really nice guy.

*cough* current Stanley Cup champs *cough*

Bill Davidson, the Pistons' and Shock owner, just died the other day as well. He was a philanthropist and a good man.
