Okay, here's mine... only had it a couple of months...
hmmmm... not imbeded. what did I do wrong?
Okay, I think I got it now....
She's purty! (Yes, it is so a real word, but only when discussing guitars!) Whose autograph is on the headstock?
Heaven doesn't want me, and Hell is afraid I'll take over
Hi freek...
I should have said... It's Mark Knopfler's....
EmmaLee is real a real pretty instrument.
Thanks so much! I knew she had to be mine before I ever even laid a hand on her. Would you believe she sounds better than she looks?
Mark Knopfler is THE MAN. He's such a talented and amazing guitarist.
Heaven doesn't want me, and Hell is afraid I'll take over
Here are some of my babies, from L-R: my classical guitar, my husband's acoustic, and my ovation roundback
And here's me playing an absolutely gorgeous guitar (unfortunately, not mine!) that weighs as much as I do:
Nice Ovations! It's a shame I can't see more of your classical, that sliver is tantalizing. *waggles eyebrows*
Even a double-necked SG is small, so you must be absolutely miniscule! It looks great on you though.
In tangentially related news, I just learned today how to play my favorite song! This makes me a very happy freek indeed.

Ibanez Artcore AGB200 Bass
I just wish I could play it as good as it looks.
I do not bite my thumb at you, but I bite my thumb.
WOW!! I'm dumbstruck. *scrapes jawbone off floor* Very nice, dude.

My two. What can I say, I like black.
Si
I know I should probably wait until it's done, but this is the beauty being built for me as we speak (by Doper BigShooter). It should be mine within the month!
Body without the neck on yet:
It might be wishful thinking but it would be great if BigShooter did a build thread in this forum. You could just scroll down the page and watch the guitar get built.
Well, there is one on the SDMB, but of course the pictures are links, not embedded.
I just took most of those pictures and put them up on my site here, and when the guitar is finished I'm going to put together a little 'making of' page; I'll be sure to post it when I do.
Watching the process has been very fascinating for me. Aside from the neck which we had made, he's cut this whole thing out of a hunk of wood and a sheet of copper. Very neat.
here's mine
97 american standard, texas specials, mots pickguard, and most recently a reversed control plate.
me likey!!!
There's nothing wrong with black, si_blakely. My two favorite musicians in the whole world play black Strats, so they are dear to me always.
Eonwe, I've followed that guitar's progress with a stalkerish passion over at SDMB. I can't imagine how much you must love her. Truly a one-of-a-kind.
I was going to smack yawndave upside his head, but I'm laughing too hard. You got off easy this time, mister! *shakes fist*
Your Telly is really cool, ctywkr; I've never seen one like that before. If I'd heard it described to me, I'd have said "Eww, yuck!", but seeing it....It really works!
I love seeing everybody's gear. It makes me want to track you all down and make you play for me so I can match sounds to appearances.

Oh LOVELY!! All is certainly forgiven. I don't usually use a pick, but if you'll just PM me your address, so I know where to get it....
Heaven doesn't want me, and Hell is afraid I'll take over
That pick came in David Gilmour's "Live In G'dansk" CD/DVD boxed set. If you really want it, send me a PM with your snail mail addy, and I'll send it to you.
Here are some pictures I took just now. To head off the likely first question at the pass, yes I'm a lefty.

freekalette, that guitar needed a female name, and a double name at that. Beautiful. I don't know what you play (I guess we need a "Let us hear your band" thread on DoMeBo), but if that was mine I'd crank it up and play the rudest rockabilly this side of Link Wray.
longPath, Mark Knopfler is one of my four or five favorite guitar players (even if I sound absolutely nothing like him), and that guitar made me think of him even before I saw the signature.
XJETGIRLX, in that last picture you are definitely buying a stairway to heaven. Double necked guitars FTW.
garygnu, I totally love the dark wood grain and the oversized pole pieces, and the way all the whites in the photo are washed out is a great effect. I'm also a big, big fan of semi-hollow bass guitars.
si_blakeley, I like black too. And I want to see a bigger pic of your Strat-a-zoid thing over on the left.
Eonwe, I love Telecasters and I hate you. Well, "envy" more than "hate," really...
ctywkr, ditto to you. I really like the colors on yours as well.
Well, all this thread has really done is make me: A) jealous; and B) want to hear these guitars as well.
ETA: yawndave, you had me going for several long seconds.

I hope you don't mind me crashing the thread. I love the guitar as an icon of both sound and art. I don't play,though--unless you count being in a garage band in the early 70s.
My new Ukelele. It's not Koa, and I couldn't afford the mother-of-pearl inlay I wanted, but it's pretty nice:
I do not bite my thumb at you, but I bite my thumb.
garygnu, are you any good with that thing? It's a beautiful looking instrument, but I must confess that ukuleles always sound kind of tinny and silly to me - even good ones in the hands of supposedly good players. :|

I just bought it so I sound pretty awful.Originally posted by OneCentStamp
I agree on the sound to an extent. Soprano sized ukuleles (like mine ) do sound super-high pitched. Bigger ones sound nicer. Israel Kamakawiwo'ole played a tenor uke, which is for a good example, both the opening and the solo at around 1:35.
I do not bite my thumb at you, but I bite my thumb.
I play bluesy rock, OneCentStamp, or at least I try to. Still very much at the beginners' stage, but I can play a few things. Glad you like the name. Maybe once I get better - and less nervous - I'll try to record me playing something and post a link to it. That Les is a beauty too, by the way! Gibsons are so dear to me.
Since I started this thread, I hereby decree that yawndave has permission to crash as much as he likes! *waves make-believe scepter with authority* Crash away!
Israel Kamakawiwo'ole is a GOD with a ukulele. It's not an instrument I could ever picture myself playing, but I have great respect for people who bother to learn it. I'd be interested to hear garygnu play, once he's had some practice of course.
Edited cause I forgot one. D'oh!

Ok, I don't have it in my hands yet (Friday can't come soon enough), but it's done!

Definitely! It's still en route; should be here on Friday. And, I'm basically working sickeningly long days all next weekend and the following week. I'll definitely get some audio up though.
Thank you, freekalette for allowing my to crash your thread. The guitar is one of mankind's greatest inventions, and I'm amazed by the ways that pop culture has used it as a icon. For example (now don't laugh, because this puppy really wails!!):
That little guy is so cute! He reminds me of a very ethereal semi-techno cover song I own, called "While My Keytar Gently Weeps". (Yes, yes, I know. But it's a GREAT song!!)
ETA: is a link. The video has nothing to do with the song; it was the only online copy I could find.

Takamine is good stuff. I haven't played any of their newer stuff, but in the 1990s at least, at any price point from $300-3000, they had some of the best-sounding, best-playing guitars available.

Hey guys, I'm gonna go off topic for a minute here. (But hey, it's my thread, so if you don't like it you can all just kiss off into the air....) *ahem!*
Anyway, I'm starting college tomorrow - for the first time ever - so I probably won't be posting much for about a week or so. Not that I think you can't go on without me (I'm crazy, not delusional) but I didn't want y'all to rack up a bunch of posts and wonder why I didn't respond. I'm not a jerk, just busy! I'm hoping not to drop too far off the radar, but there's just no telling how insanely busy I will be. Just wanted to give a heads up. Thanks for putting up with my crazy ramblings!
We now return you to your previously scheduled beautiful and ridiculous guitar pics.... :ugeek:

I do not bite my thumb at you, but I bite my thumb.
I've had this about 7 years. It's the first electric guitar I bought new aside from a Cort I got from Sears when I first started playing about 20 years ago. It and a Squire I got for free recently at a yard sale are the only guitars I have left, and I don't play much anymore.
This Eric Clapton-model strat was mistreated by its former owner:
Ah,the fabled Moderne, resurrected by Gibson though Epiphone for our pleasure. I've always wondered if those were comfortable to play. How does it balance on a strap? How about sitting?Originally posted by Badtz Maru

Balances fine on a strap, and it's better than some for on your leg, but not as good as an Explorer (my favorite style). I bought it primarily because it has two humbuckers and no t-bar, specs that are a must for me.Originally posted by OneCentStamp
Same here, and it's been that way since I was 14 years old. When I got my first decent guitar, a Strat, I dropped humbuckers into the neck and bridge positions, took off the tremolo bar, and blocked the trem off with a piece of wood.Originally posted by Badtz Maru

I've had it since 1986 and I'll probably have it the day I die. Now that the arthritis is being controlled by medication, I'm looking at getting back into the 12-string world, but I think I need to find a job first.
Political correctness will be the death of our country.

I'm so glad you guys are continuing on in my absence! And I love that half the pics are gorgeous instruments, and half are absurdities. This might just be the best thread I've ever started.
