Default Can I still eat these parsnips?

I've had them in the fridge for ages. They're now almost three months past their use-by date. They still seem mostly fine - the main body doesn't seem squishy or smell bad or mouldy. But they've sprouted, there's four inch white worm-things coming out of the top. If I cut those off, are the parsnips still good to eat? I've heard it said you can't eat potatoes that have sprouted, but what about parsnips?

As you can tell, I am a disorganised clueless kitchenphobic clot.

Throw them away, man. I mean...they're parsnips, fer cripes sake.
I am not a professional chef, but I dress like one at home.

Potatoes that have sprouted should not be eaten because of poisonous substances in them - the same is not true of Parsnips - if they're still firm, they should be fine to eat - after all, a parsnip is in fact a device purposed to last a whole winter - having built up a store of food the first year, for the plant to eventually consume in its reproductive efforts the second year.

Thanks. I might have known you would reply!
Don't have any bright ideas, but boiled up then slathered with butter should do nicely, and represents the apex of my culinary skills.
