Given the sort of issues that would get hashed out in that forum, and the unending, unresolvable back-and-forth it would produce, how about: "Persistent Disagreements."

I think "The Soapbox" is a terrible name for a debate board.
If there was a forum named "The Soapbox" i imagine it would be a forum where people could go and post things as wanky and pretentious as they liked, without the option for people to reply. It would be a forum just for people who wanted to stand on their SOAPBOX without anyone else coming along telling them what they though.

May i also ask, do you actually think im trying to start an argument in asking whether i think "The Soapbox" is a good name for a debate forum?

I like Argument Clinic best, Soapbox second best.
Why won't those stupid idiots let me join their crappy club for jerks?

Pretend for one second that we are trying to name a board that is dedicated to debates, and not trying to make jokes about what the board might become.
Honestly, if i were a newcomer and saw a board titled "Persistent Disagreements" i'd think "ok, i can go in there and disagree with everything, regardless of what i believe, without consequence.."

Are you people actually thinking about the purpose of this thread or are you just trying to take the piss out of the SDMB?

What did you think about "Think Tank"?

I took the quip about 'argument' as a funny - Arguing in a debate forum ?! Isn't debate a type of argument?

Anyway, I agree that the name should have a more serious tone.

A typo in another post makes me want to say DebateZ! But I'm kidding.

    How about The Debating Table?

No, I am just trying to see if you have a sense of humor or not.

    The vote is still out.

I like Think Tank. I think that's fitting for the intent of the forum.

Well, at least I hope thinking will be the intent.

    Mod Note:

Keep the discussion civil, please. You are free to disagree with other's ideas, but let's not become insulting.

I dig Think Tank also. I don't know if I like it as much as Plato's Playground, but I apperantly find alliteration appealing. Neither of those specifically comments on the forum being about debates though, the Crucible fits that bill best as a name, I think.

Or how about "Questions And Answers And Counter-Answers And Rebuttals And ..."

Seriously, I dunno. I suppose "The Argument Clinic" best fits the sort of thing I think we'll be likely to see. :?

No offense, but Plato's Playgound sounds kind of like a sex club.

How about The Forensic Forum, or if you're more cynical about the whole enterprise, Forensic Pathology?
