    Default Why are bananas curved?

It's one of those things you take for granted, the shape of a banana.

But the question is, why do they curve like that?

I thought it was so that they'd make such a lovely frame for Keanu Reeves's face?

So that when they bounce against each other (or something else), they don't pop open prematurely and spoil.

Just hypothesizing here, but could it be so that they'll fit better in the bunch? Look at leaves on things like artichokes, lettuce, and cabbage, for example. Grapes are different, but they hang down rather than growing upward in a tight bunch.
