Here's the story
So, what does a fighter do to a bomber (apart from shooting at it) that convinces the bomber to turn around and go home RIGHT NOW?

I would presume just showing up is enough.
If a bomber pilot sees a bunch of fighters, he'll know what the consequences are for crossing that airspace.

There's that, and the fighters can proceed to buzz the crap out of the other planes. A fighter is much more manoverable than a bomber, and can get in close enough to a bomber to cause all kinds of problems (for example, the turbulence from the wake of the fighter streaking by can put another plane into a spin).

Don't think it would spin out a bomber but it does get their attention.Originally posted by Tuckerfan
Actually, just pulling up close enough so that they can see you do the 'Naughty, naughty, Shame on you.' thing with your fingers is usually all it takes.....
No job is too hard for the person who does not have to do it.
The bomber will probably be able to detect when you've got a missile locked on him. Not much says loving quite like a Sidewinder with a solid lock. He's also probably got mirrors so he can see when you roll in on his 6....

Besides, in an actual combat situation, instead of a "get out of here right now" <introduce show of force> situation, the fighter would be far away from the bomber before he released his missiles (or even more likely, they would come from the ground). There would not likely be any visual contact.

I think Dragon has the right idea...
The fighter will get close enough for the pilots to see each other and a hand motion indicating the reverse direction followed by a 'slice across the neck' would be enough for the bomber to get the hint he's not wanted in the area.
